Oh they are very nice. I LOVE the first one taking a nap
  6. I thought that log was blocked .... that would be your problem. Id take it out all together as even when it's blocked they will still fight over it.
  7. I say it's boy too. Too blue to be a girl i think
  8. thoes girls, they can be little bullies :hap: My Latte is giving her two boys attitude too (she is also having a first moult) but i wouldn't worry about any bossiness unless she is creating injury or stress to her partner - it's just normal (budgie) female behavior
  9. He looks really nice. Keep and eye on his seed dish - you will find little husks in the top as he sneaks some food when you are not looking. As SW said, it's quite normal for a bird to not eat for the first few days at a new home - just try and make sure he doesn't get cold. a bird can die in the cold with no food to generate body heat. I normally give my newbies a millet spray that is pegged at perch level and at the spot where they tend to sit the most - this allows them to eat while feeling more comfortable
  10. BG is in the middle and Lady is on the Right BG is doing well in the warmth of the house - he is living it up as one of the 'insiders' and i am feeling that he will be good to go this spring. Lady on the other hand, is a 07 hen who to me is scatter brained. She stresses in small cages and seems to me that her temperament is not what i call 'desirable' for safe uneventful breeding - she seems quite moody and sometimes picks on other birds. I am desperate to get some good genes from BG as he is old and I dont know if he will be upto it much longer. I am worried about puting Lady and BG togather becuase she is showing the signs of a 'bad mother' and I dont want to risk BG's final genes on a hen who will potentially harm or kill the eggs/chicks. I am considdering my options.... 1. Put BG and Lady together and just hope it goes well or 2. Put BG with the hen he had in summer - she is a great mum but not so good in the genes area or 3. Put Lady with a test male first or 4. Put BG and Lady together but foster any eggs to a trusted pair What do you guys think i should do
  11. poor Jake. I hope he is okay. I have noticed my Lady is a bit of a bully too. I find my show types are more docile and pretty easy going, but Lady.... I don't know about her. she is a bit --->
  12. I'm sorry to hear that Deb I agree with Sunnie, He is probably upset about you getting upset - He is trying to stop you getting hurt (by hurting you - Men. they don't get it ) I have 40 in an aviary smaller than yours and they all get along fine. There have been the odd problem birds that have need to get weeded out - I put them in my small aviary (the jail) and they sorted out their problems between themselves for a while then let them rejoin the flock - now the small aviary is empty and everyone is happy He'll come around

OH Libby I hope you get the buggers I am a HUGE woose when it comes to killing, even nasty rodents - not because i am against it, but because i cant make my muscles do what my brain is telling them to do. I prefer the rat traps that snap them on the spine. I could not drown them, but i have turned my back and dropped a brick on a half alive mouse in a trap before ***shudders***
  14. Welcome Back I loved reading your story - very interesting. I didn't realise that so much goes wrong with cows.

    MMMMMMMMmmmmm YUMMY :budgiedance:
  17. he has scaly face - its easily treated. If he is easy to handle you can treat him twice a day with cooking oil or Castor oil gently applied to the affected area with a cotton tip for about 5 days. Other wise you can get medications to put in his water or on their feathers. There is lots of info on the net as its a very common condition

I agree that anything can happen at any time - there is a level of paranoia in all of us but we wouldn't ever leave the house if we listened to all of our concerns. Personally i think he will be fine if he is covered like Elly said, If he has 2 water sources that are up and out of the way of getting seed and poop in them. 2 seed filled dishes and even some sprinkled on the bottom of the cage. a seed bell, a millet spray..... a radio left of quiet (even better on a timer so he can have quiet at night) .... Have your friend check on him if your worried and relax on your holiday :hap:
  19. HORRAAAAAYYYY!!!!!!! :hap: Great news!! :D

I have seen seed despensers that don't allow a build up of husks. I cant find a picture of one, but a good petshop might have one :budgiedance:

No worries at all. It can be quite stressful for these little guys when they change location. He would be much more comfortable in his own home :fear He will be just fine for the four days. provided he is not in a drafty area, he should not need to be covered. You may notice that he will be a little sulky for a few days after you come home - like any animal, they miss their owner when they go away. I have always wanted to go to Taz!! I will get there one day I hope you have a brilliant time and would love to see pictures of the sights
  24. I am not sure about the ACV. Silverbeet however, contains too much iron which is bad for breeding budgies as it stops the absorption of calcium.

I would say he would be fine on his own for 4 days I can budgie sit if you are worried about others quality of care
