I feel any ones that are strongly scented are the best for budgies - I have no evidence that they are better for them, but i know that if i give them a branch from a highly scented gum they swamp it and LOOOOVE IT!!!

Hello and welcome Please make sure he gets a fresh seed top up everyday as budgies can starve quite quickly and often a seed dish can look full, but actually only contains (useless) husks. Also give fresh vegies and fruit - the way to a budgies heart is though trust and their stomach. :rip: 5 weeks is still early days when it comes to bonding with your budgie. Just keep holding him and talking to him - don't give up as budgies (in the early days of tameing) can loose their tameness quite quickly if you leave them for a few days. Dose he have any mirrors in his cage??? Mirrors distract the budgies attention away from you and they fall in love with their reflection instead. Good luck and keep us posted with your progress. Be very careful feeling around for bones - they break easily and is normally only done by professionals I say we need Kaz to clear things up - she is the queen of gender

I have a pet type budgie who can not fly. I didn't know at the time i bought him as he was in one of those little cages with lots of other birds and he looks completely fine too. But when i got him home i realized he couldn't fly. I think he had a broken wing at some point before i got him and it healed wrong so he cant flap that wing properly. I made him a large ladder that gets him off the ground and on to the lowest perch in my aviary, then he climbs up the wire to sit with the other birds

They are probably just jealous and dont want to admit you have something special, so you will sell it to one of them cheap.

He looks plucked seeing as you are great at hand rearing, i would cull (sell) your hen and hand rear the rest of the cluth. Don't give up on breeding Deb, This is from a loopy hen, nothing to do with you and your budgie breeding abilities
