  1. You have a great setup!! I love the play gym you built too - looks like super fun!!
  2. I think the first one is a grey green cock and the second one is a YF2 spangle hen
  3. I hope the antibiotics work so she doesn't need the pellets all the time. When changing her diet to pellets be very careful as many budgies would rather starve to death than eat them. Keep us posted and i hope her poos clear up
  4. Its awesome!! and it looks so neat and tidy. Well done I agree with Kaz's comment - if you are breeding in there you need somewhere to keep the underage birds until they are 12 months Watch the peg board, as they will eventually chew though it
  5. If she is going to lay and there is no box, then she will just do it off the perch - there is no harm in her doing that. Are you sure she has an egg bum? normally without a box they mate without producing eggs, but it does happen. How are her poos??
  6. She definitely had that sick look to her in the first photo. She looks a lot better now. I had a hen do that a week or so ago. She didn't have a poopy bum, but what ever was running her down quickly vanished. i hope they stay healthy for you now
  7. Me right, over everyone else?? That would be a first Oh still could be a hen, unless you get filled eggs. I have seen a mixed up hen "on top" before
  8. That's good news I look forward to your photos
  9. It's about 18 days.... i think - i always forget that figure She could have an egg bum which means she will lay in the next 48 hours.
  10. if theyve mated does that mean theres a chance of chicks they've mated once that I no of and attempted I was going to take Bailey out because he wouldnt leave her alown but he's sort of calmed down. I was worried he'd stess her out, but they seem fine now. Budgie sperm lasts about 3 weeks or so, and one mating is all that is needed for an entire clutch (just dont tell the hens the boys secret ) If they are going to be a breeding pair, they need to be compatible and together. She cant do it on her own.
  11. Some one needs to create a vaccine.

YES YES YES!!! That is my dream career :) Do you think you will ever achieve your dream?
  13. With tools and as clever as you are, you should be able to make as set of shutters that close off the window from rain and draughts I think Alternatively a sliding window that opens ( meshed over ) for cross ventilation in the heat of summer. A breeder I know has fitted the old fashioned louvre windows to his breeding room with a mesh cover. Thanks Kaz I will update when it is done
  14. I sweep it gently with a soft broom, taking off the top layer each week. Then about every 4 weeks i completely replace the sand
  15. I have been using sand pit sand in the bottom of my aviary. It covers the paved base and I use the sand pit type just because i think if its good enough (and safe enough) for the kids, then its probably okay for the birds too. Some sands can have nasty stuff in it, so try and get the cleanest stuff you can get .
  16. Thanks Kaz... Slowly by surly am getting there... Double sliding doors; where on earth would i have gotten that idea Next is a window. the same way Daz did his Do i put the window high up? Oh, and what about drafts?? Wont it be drafty with a window??
  17. Her behavior will have a negative affect on him trusting you completely. As a flock, if one budgie flys in fright, they all then take off out of pure instinct. He will see that his mate is afraid of you and will take on that behavior too. It is always best to tame budgies separately, and then introduce them to each other once they are both tame If you separate them he will be even tamer and tame a lot faster too - if that's what you want that is
  18. Thanks Maesie. I love working with wood and i love building stuff too - it's relaxing, especially when it goes to plan Agree about things going to plan... if they don't everyone knows not to ask me how it's going as they know they'll cop an ear full... I get really angry  . I like the fact I can design, plan and bulid things myself and then be proud of what I have built. I completely relate with everything you said
  19. Thanks Maesie. I love working with wood and i love building stuff too - it's relaxing, especially when it goes to plan
  20. I agree with MB. Hens can be really bossy. If you want Clyde to bond, move him in a separate cage in another room and work on him one on one until he is really tame
  21. Just a quick update as spring races towards us. The last 2 days i have spent my time planning, shopping for and building these sliding doors for my bird room They slide neatly to the sides as i dont have room for a swing door. They are covered with 6mm x 6mm mesh and sit hard against the inside of the door opening so rodents cant get in I am still to add the custom made C channel at the bottom for the doors sit in - it's still being made
  22. Awwwww! Congratulations It's so nice when they trust you
  23. Yep, boy, just like i thought initially
  24. After reading all of that, it makes me thinks that only birds who are genetically susceptible to catching it will get it. Where some chicks, but not all chicks get the gene from their parents. The chicks who dont get the gene are able to catch FM if they are exposed to it, whereas the chicks with the gene will be immune.. --- Just a thought i had

If you can post some pictures of your birds we should be able to tell roughly how old they are Remember to keep your new birds quarantined for 30 days at a 5 meter minimum distance
