  5. I just finished reading this whole post from beginning to end and was admiring what absolutely beautiful birds these guys both are. Then I read you lost Bih Lin and I was shocked and so sad for you. That would be really awful :yellowhead: I'm so sorry to hear of your loss and I hope some of the eggs survive and you get a baby who looks like its mum. We are having the worst heat wave in Adelaide on record at the moment, so far 11 days over 35C. I have been really lucky so far, if my birds can just hang on through this til next Wednesday, when a break is supposed to be in sight. *hugs* Kaz, sorry again for your loss of such a beautiful bird.

(He/she just fledged today)
  11. Haha......thats okay, it was just a coincidence that I just heard this story from a person last week, who is NOW quite experienced, but she was sharing some of her mishaps with me along the way, to hopefully prevent me from making some of her mistakes
  12. I just had a whiff of this stuff the vet supplied me which is like a thick solution to be painted on and it doesnt smell too bad........ I heard a story just recently about using detol. A friend of mine told me the other day, when she was just learning about budgies and breeding etc, she was advised to use detol and she used it on 2 of her birds, who then died from the fumes, as one thing wasnt pointed out to her..........it has to be diluted. Now that might seem obvious to some, but to someone who has no idea, it might not be so obvious. She was devestated that her mistake caused the death of two of her birds, as you can imagine, so I thought I might just throw that in while the suggestion of detol was about
  13. okay will do, thank you :budgiedance:
  14. I have a hen who's cere looks a bit crusty. I am not quite certain if its food or scaley face, but Ive had the odd bird with scaley and thought I might just treat her to be on the safe side. She has newly hatched babies and I was wondering if the medication could hurt them. The vet gave me this medication recently and it is actually ear drops. You paint it on the affected area. It worked very well for another hen I treated a few days ago. Thoughts please?
  15. Wow.......they do look almost identical dont they! So that's what I have recorded him as - cinnamon opaline violet :budgiedance:
  16. Thanks for the input......and yes, he is quite cute hehe Not a particularly big bird, but the hen he has paired up with is a nice size for a pet bird, so we shall just see what happens
  17. Dark blue cheek patches
  18. Hi guys This is Joker. I bought him a few months ago privately, cause I was really excited when I saw him in the aviary and thought he was a violet cinnamon. After I got him home though, I decided I was mistaken. The person I bought him from breeds a few budgies as a bit of a hobby, but really doesnt know much about colouring. Anyway, after some discussion with a couple of "budgie people", we have agreend is opaline cinnamon........what? He looks grey in some lights and violet/mauve in others. Any ideas? He has paired up with Snowflake my DEC and I know that cause I dont know the lineage, they could have anything, but just for my reference I was wondering if anyone has ideas on his colouring. Thanks for your input
