  2. Yes i agree, my birds love winter grass, milk thistle and all other grasses that i get in the garden... another few favourites of thiers are carrot tops and carrots as a whole, lettuce, spinach as said before and i hear they like mint gum leaves i think they're called... they seem to like a bit of a chew on bottle brush blossoms and leaves also... and i beleive i've also heard hibiscus are safe to them also... but not positive on that one?
  3. No idea for englands rings... australia is going to be black
  4. Eggie No#3!!! woo... havent checked for signs or fertility yet so i wont get my hopes up... once again fingers crossed

  7. definatly will keep you posted!!... she's sitting tight to her first egg... hopefully fertilised as he's fertilised his "ex's" eggs before So excited!!!! to hopefully see "BIG" fluffy heads in my nests for once
  8. Great news today my first ever attempt of cabinet breeding a show size pair seems to be going extremly well... after a couple of weeks in the new cabinets the pair have bonded and sometime this afternoon my big girl (yf1 violet hen) laid her first egg... she's only just hitting the 12 month mark now so shall be watched like a hawk! her partner big blue (normal blue cock) seems like he will be a wonderful daddy... feeding her and eating as many greens as he possibly can we're hoping all goes well for this pair and will keep you up to date here's a few pics for you all
  9. the reason that chick looks different to the first is that the one from the first clutch isnt opaline and it also looks ot be cobalt where as the new is sky blue... By The Way type 1 it is KAZ
  10. i would've gone yf opaline cinnwing mauve as the bub has purple cheek patches and the wings show a tint of brown on my screen
  11. chick one is a YF normal and chick two is a yf opaline looks type 2 to me but could be type 1... both gorgeous birds
  12. I'd have to agree also, knowing the parents and being able to identify visual charateristics in the pin feathered chicks from experience is the best way.... i think it'd be to hard to put pen to paper, explain it all and understand that way... but there's always posting pics like said... that helped me to start to identify it all also
  13. alot of my younger budgies lie down to rest.. basically anywehre they can... flat perches, nest boxes, the ground... but i've only seen it in the young ones... although an albino of mine named moon is well on her way to 12 months and still does it:P
  14. If the YF spangle and the Yf spangle opaline are the parents and the bird clearly doesnt have red eyes, i wonder if it's possible to get a YF2 DF spangle in the blue series? anyone? Avacado i'm not positive on either... he looks slightly brown yet then also looks black... he doesnt look like my cinnamon normal but then again they all come in different intensities... do you have anymore pics of him ?
  15. Papaya - greywing cobalt opaline Mango - Greywing sky/cobalt Lychee - YF2 something :S ? possibly a DEC? Lime - some kind of clearwing ? Guava - YF2 opaline Grapefruite - YF2 spangle Grape - YF2 opaline spangle Cherry- Greywing sky opaline Gorgeous birds i love the greywing opalines Papaya and cherry would give you opalines of both sex greywings and normals all of blue series... pairing him to mango would give you the same outcomes different percentages... i think for memory of pairings
  16. i'm hand taming two budgies for x-mas presents for my cousins atm (by request of their mother) and i've found it attanable to do... i find it easiest to keep them in seperate cages... if you're having trouble with your budgie flying off your finger and so on an effective alternative to clipping their wings it taping them (only on the primaries) It stops them jumping off once they learn they can't fly when they do so and throws off their balance without permanently stopping their flying.... later on down the track they'll sit on you without wings taped as they'll trust you. but i will warm you to be careful when they're first taped as they will TRY to fly and can fall hard if up high... so it's easiest to sit down with them and get them to step up over and over with the taped wings hope that helps
  17. she's absoloutly gorgeous :glare:
  18. i see blue in the wings is all... any better pics?
  19. on the metrolpolitan budgie forum under breeders there's a person who breeds crested budgies but W.A. might be a bit too far for you

i've had some who have done the "bruised" looking effect you described and the crop slowing down... they turn a darker red i beleive from lack of hydration and then start to become skinny looking. if his crop it back processing you've done well keep up the awesome work... it sounds liek you're a wonderful foster mother :bluebudgie:
  22. i've moved hens into other cages before but it's only ever worked when they were taken IN their nest boxes
  23. maybe the hen found out he'd cheated before they got into their cabinet  haha
  24. okay the deal is you get my violets if i get these babies hahah!!! sounds fair to me, right? :hap: they're gorgeous trace!!! :budgiedance: NO1# baby's sooo gorgeous!!!!
