  1. haha well then... either sex ah wells ya win some you lose some but hey cinnamon cocks r still good
  2. hehe cock bird elly
  3. you say they've got cinnamon on their wings... well that means if the mums not a cinnamon you've got little hens because the cock must be split so atleast ya know that but if mum's cinnamon it means dads split so could be of both sex... so fingers crossed mums not a cinnamon...
  4. i've had around ten babies hatch in my incubator this season and so far just as many girls as boys and kept at an average of 37.2 all were incubated from a early stage and turned daily... so i'd like to know if temp really does change them because i might look into it ... although it seems like it'd be a busted myth because sex linked genes and other effecting factors but would be cool to find out...
  5. looks like a YF2 normal grey... a opaline light green and a mauve/grey spangle dominant pied and my god snow pea is huge gorgeous birds maddi i'm not positive on the opaline but it looks it from the colour and light barring on the side/back of the head... your little sweet pea is so innocent looking
  6. i'd say violet spangle and sky blue opaline spangle i have a little hen exactly like her called sky
  7. na took me a while to get the hang of it too it's all fairly new to me... i've owned budgies for years but only starting to learn everything about genetics now
  8. i have young babies in with adults... no troubles as of yet
  9. your birds are absoloutly gorgeous... and i'd just like to add... MY GOD!!! thats the biggest seed treat i've ever seen haha gotta be happy with that tarlia's my favourite
  10. yeps a Yf2 skyblue recessive pied
  11. i totally feel for you also... i've recently had a casualty too... my only young baby atm has suffered a head injury... well to be honest... a crushed skull :S we rang the avian vet immmediatly and he said if we had the guts to put it down we could if not wait :S he was really bad had a bulging eye and flattened skull, bleeding from the nostrils and mouth and no sense of balance or anything with staggered breathing... we didnt think he'd make it thorugh the night... a few hours after the accident we tried him with some siringe food... to our amazment he took it it's now 5 days later he's regained sight and his head seems to be de-swelling he's starting to hold his head up and even calling for food now next step is to get balance back... so dont give up hope they're tough little things we rang the avian vet back to let him know how the little fella was going and he was as stunned as we were that he made it thorugh the night let alone eating and getting better they're definatly troopers these birds my little bub proves it so i'm sure yours will be fine he's being named arnald after terminator hehe we thought it fit the bill:P
  12. i agree with you that the aviaries get cleaned too much by some people... we try to let ours get a bit dirty and we keep it covered with straw... i have 4 diasbled birds and 4 quails which use the bottom of the aviary so it's never allowed to get overly dirty but our system of replacing the bottom cover one a month or so seems to work well too and all babies are released into the aviary once they can fly unless they were bred in there themselves... i try not to use many cleaning things also unless a mite spray or scaley face direct treatment... everything else my birds have to wing it but they're all in good health but i like your thoughts and totally agree with everything
  13. looks like a YF2 sky blue recessive pied to me what a cutie!!! just looks yellow though not positive
  14. get a dog!!! haha problem solved :bluebudgie: na i have no idea i have dogs so my three cats dont venture out back very often... but it's definatly an effective method there'd be something cats dont like to sprinkle around the area i'm sure... we have one for our dogs we put in the garden... it's cytronella jelly crystals... might work for cats too?
  15. i have had a budgie that did the exact same thing back in the day... i was only a kid... he's was a little escape artist too and i left the pegs off his door one day when we fed him out the back :S havent seen him since i have no idea whether it's a good or a bad thing but it did seem to keep our bird very entertained too and it never had any health problems for the period of time we had it so good luck with your bird and just remember the small price you paid for you bird has bought you a personal full time entertainer hehe
  16. gorgeous baby's sunnie so cute i agree with kaz you did a good job with the pics:P so many whites!!!
  17. aww i'm sure he'll change his mind no one can dismiss someone with such a caring heart like you have if i lived near you i'd house them til you got settled but i dont maybe someone near by can give them a place to stay if all else fails just until you get back on your feet? but i'm sure it wont come to that like i said or else he'd have to be a complete utter nutter to throw away what he's got... definatly worth holding onto just gotta remind him of it cheer up best wishes libby
  18. hehe yeah positve it's going straight through the baby:P it pooped on my hand haha... or rather...seeded muchly appreciated
  19. never crop fed with a crop needle but i'm good with a normal siringe which is how i've given it some water and diluted down hand rearing mix the mothers been removed because she's getting far too skinny which has left the dad to it he's seems really good and it eating the veggies constantly and flying down into the box every now and again to give them food... the seeds in the stomach i meant are in the lower part near it's vent... i had a picture but it wont upload :@ his crop has softned now with the added moisture by us and the rearing food and i'll keep a close eye on him over night and continue to feed him food if his crop seems stiff again we've looked into crop needles at the local shops but **** is sold out of budgie ones and the other pet stores dont stock them so looks like it may be a trip to **** ***** sometime soon oh and i thought i'd let you know we lost our little french moult chick last night my partner was quite upset it was his favourite but you win some you lose some just gotta do the best we can for this chick thankyou for your help
  20. quite young kaz... i dont know exact days but he's small with pins his eyes are fully open and have been a while but he's small... he's still smaller than the "size" of a chicken egg... i can also see the seeds in his stomach through the skin... i dont take that to be normal :S because i've never seen it before :S he's the only offspring thats remaining from my bird that you said is a BES and the hen who's the mauve CF opaline i dont know if this will work try it :S
  21. hey guys i'm just a little concerned about one of my chicks atm.... the foster parents appear to be feeding him large amounts of undigested seeds.... normally i wouldnt be concerned but this time i've noticed the young bird is pooping out whole seeds... as though he's not processing them... could this be a cause for concern? it doesnt seem too bad maybe a little dehydrated so we've given it water and dilute hand rearing mix but he's not really a baby i'd like to lose from a mistake ... any help would be appreciated thanks oh and yes the parents have been provided soft foods (vegies) as well as seed and their water but not egg and biscuit as they wont have a bar of it cheers libby
  22. i'm sorry to hear the bad news splat but i hope everything works out well for you and your very gorgeous birds
  23. if you breed a white faced grey to a yellow faced grey your still going to get grey offspring... you'll get some yellowfaces... but not of the blue kind your after if both parents are grey... to my knowledge anyway.... unless your greys happen to be mauves by mistake?
  24. hey i feel you on this subject although i'ts not a budgie i have the problem with but a male rainbow lorikeet... he was hand reared and then came to us around 11 weeks old.. he seems to have also formed an un-natural liking with my hand when i bring him out the cage...i just kind of brush it of and put him down but hey if they find a cure to helping you i'm all for it too best of luck with your two girlfriends i hope one doesnt get too jealous of the other :budgiedance:
