R&t's Breeding Journal
are they out of pieds Renee, I have actually heard something about it being recessive, coming from recessive pieds, now I mostly wrong so don't take my word fro it but I do know it is a fault when it comes to being a normal bird.

The Last Babies Of 2011 Breeding Season
Yes Flippy, this is my 1st year of doing it though, but next year with the offspring I outcross with new blood and then the following year I take the chicks from the outcross mating and bring it back into the line, it is called line breeding, some call it inbreeding because it is very close. I mostly do cousin/cousin, half/brother half/sister and auntie/uncle matings which is line breeding. It can bring out the best of the parent and it can also bring out the worse.

The Last Babies Of 2011 Breeding Season
Thanks Twisted, yep I have high hopes for that spangle crossing my fingers lol. Yes that hen was a beauty too, her brother came 1st at the shield in the normal spangle class, she couldn't go because she was plucked on top of her head and had pin feathers but she was better than her brother more feather and directional feather, I think that is why she struggled because of her feather, she was moulting and I think it took it's toll on her and I put her in the hospital cage and i think I made her worse, who knows, we did an autopsy nothing conclusive though. Can't find anything in the droppings either. But i am thinking that what happened in the breed room with all those chicks dieing is taking a toll on some of the ones that survived which is this hen. They may have a weakened immune system or something. Anyway just have to look to the future and hope that pairs breed me more the same next year.

LOL mainly because Greg would shoot me, more added to the power bill. Plus it would stir up the dust that I have probably missed, that dust is a job and a half trying to keep it at bay. My bird room is fairly cool on a hot day and once the veranda goes up (one day) it will be heaps better.

The Last Babies Of 2011 Breeding Season
Thanks Robyn that little fella is going to really nice. Yes I am really excited about next years breeding now because I kind of know what I am going to get from pairs that lost most of their chicks. Plus I can't wait to put down the parents of my winning birds again. But problem is I hope they are still alive by next year, starting my doxy program and I hope that helps. they have had the turbosole and that seem to help the breeding pairs, chicks stopped dieing and since then they have had coccivet because all of the rain we have had. I really don't like to give them to much medication but I think with what has being going on I think it calls for it. If I find one more bird sick I am off to the vet because I have to know what is going on. but at this stage all birds look as healthy as and I just pray they stay that way.

When it comes to the heat Renee I try and make sure I have no breeding cages going that are high up, I try and use all the low ones and then no problem with the birds stressing or dieing. They are desert birds and they can take the heat. I also put in a bath on extreme hot days. I don't use fans well I guess I would be shot if I did lol.

open page insert picture and picture to format should be the screen you are on. on the right hand side up the top there is adjust which is brightness, contrast and recolour in the middle picture styles which is picture shape, border and effects and on the left hand side there is Formatting which is position, bring to front, bring to back and text wrapping. and on the far left is sizing which has cropping in it. I hope this helps. my word is 2007.

Is My Lutino Budgie Male Or Female?
She looks like a hen to me..

My First Aviary
Our dog gets a natural diet and when he pees on the lawn , the lawn dies ,large brown spots every where. So I am guessing if he urinated in the garden on the plants, they would die too. To much acid in urine. Anyway the problem is he is a male dog and when he does start marking his territory he won't care what he pees on as long as it has his cent on it. AND that will include aviaries. I do not wish to have him pee in my budgie aviaries ever. He hasn't started cocking his leg yet and he is 19 months old. he is still peeing like a female.

Aviary Alarms

Budgie Harness
I don't mean to be rude, but why would you ever want to put a budgie or any bird in a harness.

Some Chicks
Cross my fingers for you Kaz. I hope that fertility improves and they hatch and live to perch. I am finishing up 3 cages left. Considering I had 30 cages going, my year was terrible too, just over 40 chicks from 2 rounds of 30 cages. And I lost my white boy, sad day ever. But I did breed a couple of crackers so over all I am quite happy but I did loose over 90 chicks and i have wondered what they would of being like because most were from my best birds.

Some Chicks
Good news, get to keep your breeding room that's great, that will make more room for aviaries now lol. Sorry to here about the violet dieing, I just lost a bird from auction too. money down the drain. Kaz babies are looking promising.

Not New But Returning
Hi Laurie and welcome back to the Forum, sorry to here about JD. but on the good side Pixel looks like a real little cheeky sweetie. Babies tend to flap their wings like that, mine are doing it all the time especially in the breeding cage when they are about 5 weeks old and older.

Opaline?
He looks normal spangle to me

Took Me A While,
lol very smart your photoshop work Phill, it really looks like that sheeting is really there and the colour matches and it looks very smart if Robyn ever decides to go that way.

Moving Baby Budgies?
I am with Macka on this, just leave them in the original nest box and where it was orginally placed. Is it one of those nest boxes you buy from the pet shop, they are small and the hole is low but plenty of room, chicks like to scrunch up together.

Help On Opaline And Other Genetics...
Yes Dave is right, a cock can mate as many hens that allow him and hens are no different. When aviary bred it is really hard to work out the real parentage. Really a guessing game.

Took Me A While,
Looks great Robyn, you have done a great job.

Coccidiosis
Thanks Phill I will do that, I use to have the wood shavings under the perches too but it went everywhere. At least having something on the floor where the perches are will make it easier for cleaning.
