Good advice GB, did you have any babies in the unbroken cap shield?
  2. splat replied to Matt G's topic in New to BBC
Marlene won 1st dom pied, in the dom pied class at the Victorian Unbroken cap bird shield Sunday just gone, she won 2 shields and she got best bird in show with the dom pied so she is doing alright for herself. Our club (Kyabram) did not attend as none of us had any birds for the shield, unbroken capps you only have a small window to be able to show them before they start capping.

Hello and Welcome Matt. Bendigo is a nice friendly club. They have some nice birds, Marlene Hall,G Roberts,Brian Hunt and Mr Baker (can't think of his first name) have really good birds. well anyway good luck with your new venture and may see you at a show or two one day soon.
  4. Coccivet you can buy direct from vetafarm in 30ml bottle and Ronnivet (is for canker)and is a vetafarm product too but you need to go to a vet to get that.
  5. Sorry about your loss he was a lovely bird. Good luck with the others, you should get some nice chicks.
  6. No but I will try and get one over the weekend.
  7. No but I will try and get one over the weekend.
  8. Lol spa , I am coming for a vist LOL, Yes when I said that about that room I did think of your lead light business. Where will the garages go on the same side of that yard or a different side.
  9. I have the same problem, I have a nest of 6 and would love to move some of the chicks but i have nowhere to move them too and they are a nest I am counting on (white DF spangle brother to your bird and a violet spangle hen related, so I have big hopes for this nest because I should of been doing this all year instead of outcrossing. Because you see the white boys were already out crosses so they really needed to be brought back into the line. My white boy all year through me 2 from 2 nest nut with the same hen. So having 6 this time is great. The violet hen she has the same grandfather as the white boy (my wow bird) but her mother is out of white boys fathers (yellow Df spangle) full brother. Do you get this Kaz. But any way I am hoping for something good, the oldest is a white Df sp and the rest look spangle so far. My only problem will be suffusion but the oldest is looking good. Sorry back to your moving. Well good luck with it all Your new bird room might be the same size as mine, lol we can both swap ideas. lol. My is on hold till after christmas now, I am going to buy seed next week. I probable won't even get it finished before march the way i am going. Still paying the car too. You don't have a lot of room, can you move the clothes line. What's the building at the back of the house. Anyway I am sure you will work it all out.
  10. My little hen is stargazing again, I noticed she only does it when she is nervous so today I worked out how much medication I need to mix up to treat her, I am giving her trimadine I read somewhere that is one of the treatments, 14 days of it I think. She is such a nice bird I thought it worth it. So I will see how she responds. Plus she is out of one of my best cocks.
  11. I t will be worth it once every things moved BUT what a job. So I am guessing you are stopping all birds from breeding now so they will be all in the aviary when ready to move. At least you can take all your cages and casings for the cages, that would save heaps of time remaking the casings. But gosh satrting all over again when you just finished your dream birdroom and aviaries but I guess the bright side is, you can do better this time and improve what you didn't like before
  12. Wow how exciting for you Kaz, It will be a big move with birds and all, how are you going to do it all. Meaning no aviary there yet. Will you quickly build one or can you move yours and take it all with you? lol I think I have led a sheltered live because I don't get the 2 head town thing either, But i think I know what jimmy means. There is a town near Bendigo called Heathcote and they reckon they are all inbred and really wierd people. Actually not all there in some way or another.
  13. Hello and Welcome, you little boys are real little cuties
  14. It's all put on the side at the moment probably until after christmas. I was planning of getting ply for the roof next week but have decided to buy seed instead. NO SEED NO BIRDS.....My seed is low again,. So between and I we thought buying seed was more important. I am driving to Leeton next Wednesday and buying 1 at least 10 bags, they are only 20kilo bags. and I 30 kilo bag of Jap millet. I would like to get more but will have to see what money I have. At the same time can't put to much in my little car but then I need to make the trip worth while because it is a 3 and 1/2 hour drive one way.
  15. Dave you have some really nice birds there.
  16. Chicks look great Dave, I don't worry about the Df spangle because he might moult the suffusion out in his first moult. Last year I bred 2 yellow df sp from the same nest and they both had green suffusion as small chicks but after their 1st moult is was all gone and still is and the are at about 18 months old now. But saying all that some time they don't and it just gets worse as they get older like my yellow df sp my best cock he looks like a light pied now and he is 3 years old, each year the suffusion gets darker. Good luck with them Dave.
  17. I siliconed on the inside up where the peak is, I don't think they can get in up the there (where the peak is) but they can get in on the sides so I need to do that. What did you use Kaz to fill your gaps?
  18. Oh well I went up to my local hardware store and asked and got a big fat NO. So back to the drawing board. Tomorrow I am getting some insulation bats hopefully.
  19. Rather than portion it because budgies only eat what is on top, so if there is husk on top they don't search for the seed underneath. I would give them seed in the cup and blow the husk off each day and the top up and mix or use a jar feeder.
  20. Thanks Kaz. I am really worried because I have my white df spangle with 6 chicks and I really have big hopes on this nest but I am scared they will be all french moult because it is getting so hot.
  21. Kaz are you talking about the 3ml melemine (white coated board)if so that is $20.00 at Bunnings 1200x2400. I was going to use that for the ceiling but if the roof leaks it will rot. Plus not really thick enough. Yes 2 walls get really really hot so I was thinking something thicker will keep the heat out more. But I just had a thought a couple of hours ago, I am going up to my local hardware store and see if they have some packing board which is chipboard. I use to get it a couple of years ago for around $5. 1200x2400. But there are new owners now so they may say no and charge heaps more. BUT NO HARM IN TRYING. But I still will need to get ply for ceiling.

Welcome back, enjoyed reading your story.
  23. Nothing like that around here Kaz, Chip board 1200x2400 $20.00 the cheapest. Ply board 8 or 9ml 1200x2400 $27.00 to $31.00 a piece. White coated which is melamine right or wrong anyway that is heaps dearer. I don't want thin ply board but anyway that is between $20.00 - $27.00 for 1200x 2400 a piece. I need at least 9 pieces for the walls and 4 for the ceiling but for the ceiling i need to use some light weight but water proof just in case so thin ply board would be no good it will rot so I am opting for 8 or 9 ml ply which is out door stuff so will not rott. If I could find something for $12.00 I would grap it right now. Where do you buy yours from Kaz?
  24. Thank you Shannon and Rachlem, I am going to try and finish the framing of the roof this week because I have borrowed Geoff's compound saw again, I love his saw I can cut wood with out saying, "Greg can you help please" and then he groans at me, so this saw is great, best thing since sliced bread I think. Oh I have an upgrade on one of my aviaries also, last year I did that fake cement and I haven't been happy about it since because very rough and hard to clean. Well Greg fixed it last week, went right over it and it is lovely and small. I love it now. The aviary is a little shorter in height now though. He is going to do the other one next week so then all done. happy
