  1. This stuff is resin and then you add hardener, Greg said the tradesmen put the first layer on with a trough and when dried they put the second coat on with a paint roller and then when they were all finished and it was all try they threw fine sand over it. I guess so no one slips over. The second coat a colour is added, like grey so it looks like cement. Gregs pigeon loft now looks very shinny, it actually looks like there is water sitting on top. Greg said the job the tradesman were doing was costing his work place $10,000 but I guess it was a large area as it is a factory. I would hate to use it and the birds pecked away at it and then died, I would cry. If it is the same stuff I would love to know if it is safe for budgies. Cheers
  2. Thanks Gb, there is no flight in the breeding rooming, it is all breeding only. I have the baby flight in the other breeding room and I am making the my last new breeding room extension into another indoor flight once I finish this one.
  3. Good news, All the bats aare on the walls and the ceiling is finished. I am now ready to put the walls on and then paint the lot. ceiling half done ceiling finished Walls My Christmas present from Greg A mitre sliding compound saw it came with stand and a roller work stand. So really happy, getting there, but I do need to make a veranda out the front where the door and window is because the heat that comes in there in thearvo is horrorific. I new that was going to happen but it is worse than I thought. I have the door and window all facing the wrong way but I had NO choice. But I plan on making a veranda about 3and 1/2 feet deep and as long as the shed and shade the door and window. But still need air in there plus light. I need another window at the back for airflow but that means I loose another wall so still deciding. More updates as more gets done.
  4. Thank you Squeak_Crumble and Kaz. Yes he is a lovely looking dog, he has lost his puppy look now. Every night he gets his blanky which is his best friend I am sure and it is the same colour as him it is a dream spun blanket. Well anyway he does you know what to it, well he tries to but he is still learning, quite disgusting I think. Kaz yes are lawn is beautiful, thick and spongey. Last year it was weedy but now not a weed insight. Greg only cut it Saturday and it needs cutting again already. We have not watered it once, it is all that rotten rain we are getting.
  5. Hi all an Update of young Jakob Jake is now 7 months old on the 20th of this month. He has gone more red over his rump but still has a lot of black on him. He is a big solid boy with heaps more to grow.

Pine, hard wood, oak anything that is not treated, Like treated pine will poison your birds, I don't know what sort of timber you have over there. Pine wood is soft the birds chew it in no time. My perches are hard wood. OR Tasmanian Oak.
  7. I know this is on a another topic, and I put this on there but no one has answered so I thought I would put it here.......... When Greg re did my aviaries the biggest one he did a **** job. Well not really but I really don't know what he was thinking when he did it because he put a fall on it which is great but he took it lower than how I already had it and all the droppings and what ever collect at the front and when it rains it is dreadful, all this pooey water just sits there for the poor birds to drink and die. You see he took the front to the bottom of the of the rail on the floor instead of it going to the top for everything to flow out like droppings and water. Aviaries are open at front so rain gets in about 1 foot. Anyway today I put some more cement down to build it up and and for it to drain out BUT I am worried it will break away because it isn't very thick in places. BUT does look much better. Anyway why I am writing is because Greg just put down some kind of resin on his pigeon loft, seals rock hard and is as smooth as a babies behind. I would like to use it on the front of this aviary in hope that it will save it from cracking but I don't really know if is is safe. SO MY QUESTION IS has anyone ever used this resin stuff. Directions are 2 parts resin 1 part harder. Tradesmen use it in garages etc. We have know info on it as Greg got it from work from a tradesmen. I am thinking of using it on my new birdroom floor instead of tiles or lino. But I am a bit weary on the aviary floor. So if anyone knows can you please send me a PM to let me know. I did look on the internet and I did find that some resin are made from plant material. Cheers
  8. Yes I am culling soon but I didn't breed that many last year. I have more purple rings than blue rings and you can't show purple rings until 2012 and that sucks because the purple ringers are much better than the blue ringers. But the way I see it if they haven't got that width of head, feather, chest and shoulder as young birds, I really don't think they will ever get it. (SO mine get culled). Still coming for a drive one day. Can you send me that ebook on line breeding too please, might be interesting. Cheers
  9. Look forward to see how this years young breed for you Gb, Last years look really good. What is a Fb?

  11. Yes, I would like a maid too! Maybe a French Maid that can clean aviaries and breeding cages!
  12. splat replied to birdluv's topic in In Memorium
Oh Birdluv, I am so sorry to hear about poor little Jasper
  13. Do what Kaz said as mites only live on the bird, but then they do rub themselves on the perches etc so it wouldn't hurt to clean the aviary and spray the perches with an avian pestaside.
  14. are they coded (meaning is there writing on both rings. Sometimes some breeders put on a split ring to identify a certain line
  15. These are off the top of my head, without checking 05, purple 06,orange I think 07 green I think 08 black 09 red 10 blue 11 purple
  16. Do you get your seed off Max Douglas,Our club buy a pallet a month off Max. It is very good seed. Yes Macka, drove all the way to his place, I have been told since that he is cutting back on his sales from his door. He wants the clubs to buy pallets. So at our last meeting I brought it up and yep our club is ordering 3 times a year now, so that makes me happy.
  17. I just use a piece of wire or wood like Kaz says when I don't want birds breeding.
  18. What do you mean, air holes or entrance hole for birds.

Nice to put a face to a name, your a real little cutie Osman.
  20. Greg re cement all my aviaries because if you remember I did that cheats way, which turned out to be a pain because to rough to clean probably. Anyway all aviaries look great now but the latest one my birds have peaked 2 little holes in the cement. Greg said it is a sign they are lacking something but what I do not know because they have grit in there all the time, I give them true grit plus normal grit, plus they also got the PVM powder on and off plus what ever I put in their water which is not to much of late as I am trying to keep it simple. My point is, if the sealant is poisoness the birds might chip away at the cement and DEAD birds. I am with Harry and Kaz, I use a large scraper and scape off all the droppings once a week and wash the aviaries out once a month, much less over winter as I do not wet their cage at all in the winter.
  21. How big is he? I guess he he got made he would bite, OUCH.... Love to see a photo of him too.
  22. No but I would be interested to see what others say. I was going to put down a water sealant on mine but as you unsure.
  23. Thanks RIP and Kaz, great photos and labeling. If and when I get a feather duster I will with Gregs help do an autopsy too. Maybe if we all do it we might work out why they die. This poor little girl never had a chance with the fluid around the heart like that.
  24. I totally agree with Clearwing, I kn ow a lot of people that colony breed and have great success. nothing wrong with it if you only want to breed budgies, but you do need heaps of room for the birds and more nest boxes than pairs because they like to fight over the nest boxes.
