  1. Thanks Kaz, I have learnt the hard way. The only thing I do for mega bacteria is I put half a lemon and or orange in their aviary and they like it. It is citrus and that is meant to be some type of preventive mega treatment.....At least it won't harm the birds. When you give medicine when not needed especially broad spectrum antibiotic, the birds can get immunity towards it and eventually that medication will not work, same as humans.
  2. I am with Kaz on this, sounds like mega, but as Nubbly said could be any number of things.
  3. Spark is used for energy, I give my birds spark when they return from the shows along with probotics. I have to admit I have done the preventive treatment for canker but I did have a bird vomiting so I treated the whole flock. I was reading in Dr R Marshells book that it is not wise to treat the birds for canker if they do not have it. It is quite dangerous to treat them for it if they don't have it. It can do more harm than good.He says only treat for canker if there is an on going canker problem going on, vomiting and birds dieing. If it's not broken why try to fix it. I think if your birds are healthy and no sign of vomiting and birds dieing, I really wouldn't worry about it. We can give our birds far to much medication and wonder why the won't breed. But if you choose to treat them that's your choice but yes you will need to see a vet. It is a prescription medication.
  4. You can stay with me too BUT I live 3 hours from Melbourne so I will be looking for somewhere to stay too, but our house is very very very warm in the winter, We have one of those wood heaters, it gets sooooooooooooooo hot I can't sleep because my feet get hot, you know the age. lol
  5. lol he must like you splat lol i had to buy the book mm lucky i was given it by member of my club LOL,Yes GB I am a little sweety lol, I told him That Renee and two of our open breeders in my club use his products and that I didn't need his book because I have borrowed them from Heath and Ian, but I would love to purchase the Medicine book but it is out of print. So you could say that you know me Julie McNamara and that you have borrowed the books off a friend but he might ask for a name. I don't have the books. But he new the 2 breeders I mentioned so I was in. lol. I now ring up and order what ever I feel like with out being questioned. S76 also worms your birds going by the directions in the book. But I still worm them just to make sure.
  6. You need to be a client, write him a email and he will respond or you can ring him, I wrote him an email and then he asked me to send him a budgie egg and then I was a client.
  7. Good to see you open Gb, a nice read about you, very spot on too. I am very much like you in the way I like the solitude and only have a few close friends that I choose to be in my life. Gb you have come along way since you started. God help you all if I do one. GB has met me.lol
  8. Yes we will finally meet Kaz, but maybe sooner yet, I have a son over that has decided get married at long last and I guess that's one way to get me on the plane, 1st son to get married , even though he has been living with Kelly for 8 years or more and they have 3 sons, I guess it's better late than never. lol

Everyone is fine today GB, I did find a sky blue spangle hen with some blood on her, near her tail area, maybe one of the other birds pulled one and made it bleed, any way if it was her she is fine now. Clearwing has done his the same but his door is in the middle, which I wish mine were like that, any way at one end where the perches are he has the wood shavings and at the other end where he has his seed, so he has a piece of wood each end so when you walk in there is plenty of room with out walking in seed. If any seed or wood shavings jump the the wood, just vacuum up. But i don't have the room for that. Plus his aviary is indoors so no rain gets to it. BUT overall I am happy with mine, mainly the perches, being wanting to get rid of my crappy perch set since Greg did it.

Yeh, my chrissy pressy was a 254mm mitre slide saw with slide, I think it is the best thing since slice bread lol. Last year at the Riverina show I won a cordless drill but it is pretty gutless but I also won a belt sander which is great. So I am getting some of my own tools.

That is excellent, your grandfather did a great job with the divider and door, lol send him my way, I can always do with a handy man, no matter what age, lol. You did a great job with your cage cabinet too, well done.

Went out this morning to check baby aviary and where the water bottle is , there is a pool of blood but can't work out who it is from, searching for any sharp bits but can't find any, a mystery. It is a lot of blood too.

So far so good Amy, the babies have been in theirs for about a week and all the seed is where it is meant to be and the the wood savings are staying put except the birds are carrying some of it out but over it has been much better. The best thing is the water is clean NO seed in it. Plus another thing is ood if a bird takes a crash landing for any reason they have a lot of room for a soft landing

Thanks Kaz, just keeping myself busy while waiting to finish my bird room, so far the ceiling is completed and painted. Just waiting on walls etc. I am happy with what I have done, just trying to keep everything away from the front. They actually look like Budgie Hilton now, lol. Instead of having the perches go all the way across the aviaries, I have them going almost 3/4 of the way and leaving the bit more than 1 1/4 for the feed area. Plus the way the perches are now I don't need ladders in there. There is a little ladder in each one at the end where the perches start, just high enough for the birds that can't fly to climb on to the perches. I have 2 with damaged wings from flight and they would have to be my best birds but at the same time the are the most fertile ones too, they still do that the job.
  15. He would have to be split cinnamon,in would be coming from his background somewhere.
  16. Looking good, lots of pinkies. Look forward to see them grow.

Hi all I have been busy redoing my aviaries, so far I have done 2 out of 4. I pulled down the old perch setup and cleaned out and hosed, virkon S and coopexed. The whole idea is too try and keep the seed in one place . I used pine to section off each area. Under the perches I have wood shavings to help keep the droppings at bay, then there ia an area for the seed so have a deep litter kind of thing going so they can peck away at seed in that area at all times. I have a shelve for a show cage and their is a platform for grit etc. My hopes are that it all stays in that area and that none come to the front of the aviaries. The water in in the front part and I am hoping no seed makes its way there. I problem I have had in the past. I plan on using guinea pig feeders soon, I have one. The new perches almost go to the bottom of the aviaries and they are connected with tool clips, (so easy). This is what one looked liked This is how 2 look now. 1st one the smallest. Has the babies in it going through their first moult. the 2nd one has the adult birds in it, some moulting really bad. I think the birds are happier too.
  19. Sad about the little chick, lets hope the other thrives. Good to see a breeding journal going because yes GB it has been very boring around here for a while. SAD.
  20. Hi Chooky, I am glad Greg and I weren't seeing things, this pied sparrow has been hanging around months now, albino one an this pied could make a good pair, lol. maybe we could put feather on sparrows!!!! if they lived long enough in a cage.Anyway they must be able to mutate too. We also had an albino magpie a couple of years ago hanging around. How did you Diploma show go?
  21. Different, really cute. Love Kookas we have a pied sparrow here in our backyard flying around. It has a complete white tail and patches of white on it's rump and front. has anyone ever seen another one.
  22. Lovely Nubbly, there are some very promising young birds there. I bet your pleased with them.
  23. Happy Birthday Jimmy, your only a young fella lol
  24. When I had my aviaries with sand floors, Greg put in a heap really deep after awhile it sets quite hard. I would go out once a week and with a half brush and shovel lightly sweep up the top layer getting all the droppings, i actually found it easier to clean the floors then than now with cement. After a while if the floor got low Greg would put a heap more sand in for me.
