  1. I agree with Splat. I mistakenly thought one of my hens was always in the nest (with her partner) and that they saw it as a hiding place, rather than a nest. So I blocked off the nestbox for a couple of days. That turned out to be a mistake. The very afternoon that I unblocked the nest she laid an egg.... on the floor of the cabinet. She did this three times and each time I picked up the egg and put it in the nest before she got the idea. It was my fault though, not hers, as she didn't trust that the nest was a safe place any more. Feathers.
  2. Hi Dave, long time, no chat. I look forward to the photos Feathers.
  3. Harley is still gorgeous, pin feathers and all Feathers.
  4. That depends on whether you saw Mark I, II or III Feathers.
  5. Hi Paul, I have seen babe's looking after each other. I assume there is a reason you need to remove some from a nest. At six weeks they have usually learnt to crack seed themsleves. Soft food and millet sprays would be a good option. They would possibly be fine, but you would need to keep an eye on them to make sure they are eating. I recently put some toddlers into a nest with other similar aged babies and left the cock in with them. The cock was feeding all of the chicks. Feathers.

Great pics.. the first egg is definitely fertile. As for the second, to me, the air pocket looks way too big for it to be a viable egg. If you can get to one of the local club meetings, Libby, it would be worth investing in a flexi torch so that you can candle the eggs without touching them. Feathers.
  12. Hi Julie, I am really sorry to hear about this  I had a similar disaster a short while ago when a hen killed a cock of HUGE sentimental value, as well as being a cock with good features. Seems he was a bit too gregarious for her liking. With great caution I recently paired her with another cock, who, while I would hate to lose him, I wouldn't be as upset over and watched them closely. They have gone on to produce 5 fertile eggs so far and seems to be getting on very well. I'd love to give you a hug in person, however am only able to offer a virtual *hugz* Feathers.
  13. Yay! Nice to have it happening, after planning for so long. I will be watching on with interest as when I finally move house I will have to design an aviary to suit :ausb: I'm so happy for you! Feathers.
  14. Hi Libby, the white bird appears to have iris rings. If so, it is probably a double factor spangle. The yellow looks more patchy than is usual for a DEC as well... General body colour of back, rump, breast, flanks and underparts to be a solid and even shade throughout. Feathers.
  15. Gremlins Feathers
  16. Hi Anthony, I can't help with your question, unfortunately, but I am sure there are some members here that have experience with birds and lipomas. It is amazing how much these beautiful little creatures worm their way into our hearts and then give us cause for concern, isn't it? I hope you and Buzby get some answers soon. Feathers.
  17. Hello, welcome to the BBC forum. Sounds like you have a lot of beautiful birds. Feathers.

  19. Hello, I started reading this thread with dread and I am so pleased to see that Baby is still doing well. I know that we can't ask them to live on past their alloted time here, but there are just some 'special ones' that it is so hard to let go of. Thinking of you, Baby. Feathers.
  20. Hi all, A lot of time has gone by since I've done a feather town baby update. Here are some of the babies that you have previously met, all do really well and out in the aviary at present. All together with one of the Dads watching on in the background Tayle, Midori, Kiro and Bijou Kito and Devi Tayle 2 babies that have been 'spoken for'. The first, dubbed 'snugglepot', is the first of my babies to go to a new home. He went yesterday. The other budgie 'cuddlepie' will also go to her new home soon. She is the most beautiful dilute grey and so fluffy. It is going to the home of a friend as I am really looking forward to seeing the result of her first moult. Snugglepot Mum, Dekota, and Dad, Oh-oh, with Snugglepot The beautifully coloured Cuddlepie "excuse my tummy, I had a bath" The birdroom, which is currently being dismantled and turned back into a bedroom, has only 7 breeding cabinets left in it at the moment with approximately 26 eggs and these two newly hatched chicks. Jem and Beachu - round 2 - 2 new bubs The current pairs will be allowed to finish their round and a new birdroom will be set up in a shed or aviary outside. Feathers

  24. Yep, it should be fine Michelle, just make sure that you watch number 2 to make sure it is eating. Giving them soft food as well as millet should help. Feathers.
  25. Hi Kaz, they are beautiful, the sky violet is a stunner. It's great to see nice blues here. Feathers.
