  1. Shawna, that is fantastic news, it's like he never left. I am really pleased for all of you. Feathers.
  2. I have kept a bucket of water in there ever since I suspected this could be a problem. I refresh the water every couple of days with hot water so that it steams. That would be because I told her I needed a new globe. The place she suggested I can't get to. I was going to try atkins carlisle. As with anything I have to do, it all comes down to places I can get to and when I can get there. Feathers.
  3. How excitement. None of mine have tried to jump out yet Feathers
  4. I'm with you on that one, Elly. I prefer to do the thinking, that genetics program that is being used lately just 'bugs' me really. Great nestful you have there, Kaz! Feathers
  5. I didn't find them, they found me The breeder is a really lovely woman who just emailed me one day and said she had 6 birds for me as she had to reduce numbers because she was moving. She insisted that they were mine for nothing. I've agreed to take them, but only on condition that when she sets up she can take them back or have her pick of their offspring. Feathers.
  6. Elly, Elly, Elly You can actually see yellow bleeding into the colour at the neckline and the yellow looks like it has been painted on quite thickly, just over the face. This is why I put it "Appears to be". I am quite happy to be corrected. Ahh, you can thank Kaz for that. She explained the visual clues to the violet gene in my breeding journal for Jewel and Beau. Other than the violet markings that are visible around the neck in person, he also has the tell tale turquoise flight feathers and tail feathers. Did you get the impression she wanted to get out of there? Feathers.
  7. I would agree, they are really pretty birds. Feathers.
  8. Hi Vonn, sorry for not having responded earlier, I have had a mess of a week. Firstly, please do not feel badly about Lukie getting ill again as it could have been from any cause. It sounds like it was caused by you being a good Mum giving him treats and leafy vegetables, you can not be responsible for bacteria in the products you buy. Elly has been giving you great advice. You have been great in ignoring his bad behaviour and rewarding his good behaviour and it sounds like he is responding to this positive reinforcement. As for the cage situation. I agree that he should have a cage that he feels safe and secure in and feels at home. My first question is; how big is his cage? I really believe that he needs to be in his shut cage at night time. Why? Because he needs a confined area that he enjoys and feels safe in so that, heaven forbid, in case of an emergency - fire, flood etc - he can be removed from harms way. If you had to suddenly shut him up now and he was really stressed by it, this could lead to illness or worse. Feathers.

That is absolutely fantastic news Feathers.
  10. It is definitely worth the effort. I have a nice cock that I am going to pair with the violet lacewing and the cobalt cock has really good feather quality. Even if they were pet type birds it would be well worth the effort, its such a simple malady to fix I have given the cock a small beak trim and it really just needs filing down now. Feathers.
  11. Big photo day today. These are the birds that I got nearly two weeks ago from a country breeder who needed to re-house her birds as she was moving. Olive dom pied Lacewing spangle Lt green rec pied cinnamonwing Lt green opaline cinnamonwing YF2 Skyblue cinnamonwing Lt green rec pied Violet clearwing Cobalt opaline Olive normal Feathers.
  12. Okay, as I was getting photos of all of the birds that this breeder bought down today I also got updated photos of how their scaley face treatment is going. Violet clearwing Day 1 day 6 day 11 Cobalt Normal Day 1 day 6 day 11 Looking better and better every day and yes, I am VERY pleased with how they are going. Feathers.
  13. Hi all, these are budgies that I stole from my budgie driver. The last hen wasn't quite the one that I wanted, there was another olive cock, but he couldn't catch him. He has the worst possible set up for colony breeding so I need to get back there and sort it out for him, before disaster sets in When I do that I will swap the hen for the cock that I was after. This first budgie is a Violet skyblue A white DF spangle hen Hey Kaz, maybe this is a good match for chopper :budgiedance: Appears to be a YF olive hen http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q265/al...Olivenormal.jpg - changed to link need to resize to 450x450 Feathers.
  14. Thank you, Nerwen. I probably would have realised had I looked at the previous page, but I have been so busy in the last week, even before everything that happened with Lori, that I have only been vaguely here in the last few days. I am still try to come back down to earth with my pain levels and cacth up on some rest. Yes, beaker is a spangle clearwing. She is now only sitting on 2 eggs after she threw the egg with a hole. Any hatchlings from this pair are guaranteed to be gorgeous. I need a new globe in my flexi torch at the moment, so I have been unable to candle any eggs for a while. It's a case of wait and see until I find the right globe somewhere. Feathers.
  15. I'm not sure which hen you are referring too, Lady Thanks Macka. The hen chucked it out of the nest before I got a chance to look at it Feathers.
  16. Hi Kathy, just to confuse things it looks female to me in the second photo, but without a closer picture of the cere I couldn't be sure. Feathers.
  17. The only brand they had in the shop I was at - Gold brand. The lid wasn't on properly either and it make everything else I bought oily. Feathers.

Hi Allison, welcome to the BBC forum. I'm glad you like it. You have a gorgeous flock, Pistachio is a cutie. Too hot is when the birds have their wings held out from their body in an effort to cool down. When it gets that bad they would probably appreciate a light misting. You could also put air holes in the nestbox to help circulation. You are right that in their natural habitat it is often at such high temperatures, but your budgies are acclimatised to what is the normal range for your part of the world. Feathers. snap, Kaz. I answered while you were answering
  19. Thanks Daz, there were a couple of sites there that I haven't read yet. Feathers.
  20. Kazbee and Beaker look like they are after quality, not quantity. They have 3 eggs and I don't think Beaker will lay any more. Buffy and Snorky decided the same thing.. they also have 3 eggs and could begin to hatch any day now. Feathers.
  21. These are the same birds 6 days after treatment was begun. I have put the before photo in for easy comparison. BEFORE BEFORE They already look much better, even with the oil all over their faces. Feathers.
  22. That is absolutely fantastic news, I really hope it continues for Sara. What a little trooper. Feathers.
  23. Hi Mandi, I am glad that Yumi is in the safe hands of an avian vet and will be back with you tomorrow. Poor little thing, he would have had his knees knocking seeing that big bully bird. It will be interesting to see photos of Yumi in his cast. Feathers.
  24. I love kids, they are so accepting. It's great that he got to see the kids before summer holidays. I pray that the rest of his treatments go well. *hugz* Aly
  25. Shawna they are all looking absolutely fantastic. I can imagine how much you are missing them. If they are getting a bit tubby you should maybe consider putting them onto a finch mix or 50/50 budgie and finch. Finch mix contains fewer of the really fattening seeds. I really love Sylvester and Jewels Babies. They are so pretty. *hugz* to you all Feathers.
