Hi Sandee, Welcome to the BBC forum. I agree with you about budgies being addictive... it is a very hard habit to break once you start too. You have a lovely flock. Feathers.
  2. I like it Bea Thank you for sharing. I love your new sig too, but I am wondering why Fiz isn't in your avatar yet? Feathers.
  3. Hi Dave, Mine bubs are turning into uncooperative wriggly things too They really do all like to pile up together, don't they. The chick in the second last photo is absolutely gorgeous. Feathers.
  4. Hi Dave, I love the hiding photo as well. They are all coming along really nicely. Feathers.
  5. Hi Nerwen, so, it seems you will be getting into breeding exhibition birds after spending a bit of time around the hobby. The bird room is looking good. Feathers.
  6. Hi Norm, it is good to hear that he's improving. A bird I got last weekend had a runny bum when I got her and then she didn't eat for a few days. She has come good now, being a young bird also, I believe she was stressed by the move and then got a dit depressed. You would never know by looking at her now that there was anything wrong. Feathers.
  7. Hi, congratulations on your first hatchling. Why do you want to pull the babies out at all? The best nutrition comes from their parents and if you start to handle them daily from 2 weeks of age they are very tame. Is there some other reason that you want to hand feed them? Feathers.
  8. Feathers replied to ALLEN's topic in New to BBC
Hi Allen, It sounds like your Feathered Family has doubled overnight. I'd love to see some pictures of them sometime. Feathers.
  9. Earlier this year, when we had a bit of a heatwave Kaz replaced the wooden door to the nestbox with a wire mesh door. She also had a water cooler in the birdroom. She had also drilled a couple of air holes into some of the nests to aid air movement. Feathers.
  10. Amazing timing, I had mentioned this method of breeding to Kaz on the phone the other day. Feathers.
  11. You are very welcome. Sing out if I can try to confuse you again Oh, and by the way, please don't ever apologise for asking a question. That is the way we all learnt.. questions, questions and more questions Feathers.
  12. Hi Kathy, lovely babies you have there. The blue one looks like it is standing in the corner as punishment for not looking the same Feathers.
  13. Hi there, these are the two black types: Anthracite - http://www.budgieplace.com/c_anthracite.html Blackface - http://www.budgieplace.com/c_blackface.html Feathers.
  14. Hi there, you are sort of correct. The chicks from Tiki and Baby will be split to blue, which means they have 1 dominant green gene (G) and 1 recessive blue gene ( b ) - so they are Gb. If you paired one of your babies (Gb) with another blue bird (bb), this is what you get: ....G ..b b Gb bb b Gb bb 50% Visual Green, split for blue Gb 50% blue bb OR If you paired one of your babies (Gb) with another green split blue bird (Gb), this is what you get: ....G ..b G GG Gb b Gb bb 25% Green GG 50% visual Green split for blue Gb 25% blue bb Does that make sense to you? Feathers.

Yes, you can. Mix up a solution of vinegar and water in a bucket and scrub down the wire using a broom head or brush. Feathers.
  16. They are looking fantastic, Michelle, and yes, the rate of growth is absolutely amazing. Feathers.
  17. When my daughter's bird went to the avian vet he said that a lot of birds have a natural immunity to Knemidicopte mites. So, as you can not tell who may, or may not, contract it I keep ivermectin on hand and every bird that makes it past my front door gets a drop on the way in. It seems a small price to pay to ensure that they don't have to go through the obvious discomfort from this condition. Feathers.
  18. Ahh, true love, he couldn't have picked a nicer chick! So good. Here comes come really lovely skyblue clearwings. Feathers.
  19. Great thread as I wanted to look into how to fly birds within Australia. Thank you for the cage information Kathy. Can anyone tell me what restrictions there are, if any, and what it costs to fly them. I really regret not having bought birds back with me from Victoria when I was there earlier this year. Feathers.
  20. A new show pair have started laying, Kazbee & Beaker I am so happy as Kazbee is a very special birdie in my aviary, named after Kaz who bought him for me Feathers.
  21. Yep, I have Kelwyn Kakoschke birds, but mine are his own legring code - KK Feathers.
  22. Hi Mandy, you are very good. Does the product say it is for scaley face specifically? My daughter's bird didn't respond to a mite spray that we got from a pet store, but that was really good for spraying the perches etc. The scaley didn't clear until I got some ivermectin from the vet. The other way to clear it is to put baby oil on the cere and legs, but just make sure that you don't block the nostrils. I have treated all of the birds that I got... it doesn't do them any harm if they don't have the mites. Feathers.
  23. In that position the bird automatically points it's toes downwards too.... I like that tip. Feathers.
  24. Amazingly neither of theme seem distressed at all. I have not seen then rubbing on anything yet. So that is a good thing. There is also no sign of scaley on the leg under it's breeders ring, which is really good as that could have caused problems and it may have had to be cut off. The oil should help them be a little more comfortable when I get it tomorrow. Feathers.
  25. Oh, sorry to say, but personally, I hate those sand sheets. I don't think they should be sold at all. It may keep the nails trim, but how sore would their poor little footsies be having to walk on such a rough surface? But, back to trimming nails. When they are being cut, if you have seen how to do it, and are doing it yourself, it is best done with a very bright light under or behind the feet. That helps to see where the 'quick' ends.
