Well Chook has hatched her 5th baby today, that leaves 4 eggs left. Panis is starting to set in as there is no way she could care for 9 babies. Cindy

All My Spring Babies
I have never had problems with parents not feeding the chicks, so far. I admit I was worried with the last ones but they finally realised they had to feed it. A friend of mind lost all his babies because the parents would not feed them. Try posting under Breeding help and someone will tell you what to do. Good luck with them Cindy Yes I do, I just have to find them, then I'll post them for you Cindy

All My Spring Babies
Blue had 11 eggs, discarded 2, gave three away when these 6 hatched. (No.6 is hidden in top Right hand corner) Jo-Jo had 8 eggs, gave 3 away after 5 hatched (this was the 2nd clutch) (looks like 5 of a kind) and first timer 'Chook' has 9 eggs and hatched her first today. (The first egg was laid 31/8/06) Looks like I'm gonna be a very busy momma Cindy

Is This Strange 'sittting' Or What
When Lily sits on the ledge, I have often run into the aviary thinking she is dead. She sits like this for 30 minutes at a time annd even today Hubby would not believe me, he too thought she was dead. Today she opened her eyes when she heard the camera, but usually her eyes are closed, with one leg up in the air, and almost on her side. Can anyone tell me as to why she like this position Cindy

Update On Too Many Eggs
After one of my hens hatched 6 of her nine eggs (remember I had already disposed of two previously) and the other hatched 5 of her 8 (her 2nd clutch) I got Aaron to come and pick them up, made sure they were still all nice and warm when he got home so he could put them under his hen. Well one hatched the very next day, but the hen attacked the chick. He removed the rest of the eggs and put them under another hen and she is accepting them with another egg due tomorrow. You may think this was an odd thing to do, but I thought 8 and 9 was too much for any to cope with, plus the fact the nesting box would have been very cramped. This way they have a chance to hatch which I thought was better than throwing them away. I or Aaron will let you know how it all turns out. Oh! we did colour code the eggs Cindy

It remingds me of my sister when sje wanted some repairs for the air filter in her car, she asked for "the thing that sat under the hat in the motor" Cindy

Hen Doesnt Like Breeding Cabinet
Tweety is really hormonal and not giving Bazza any rest. She panicked when we put her in a breeding cabinet, so badly we took her out. and put a breeding box in her large cage. She will sit on it, look around but just wont go in. Is there anything I can use instead of a breeding cabinet. She has always been in a large cage, so maybe she just doen't like being 'walled in" She is 2 1/2 and he is 2 yrs. Cindy

How Many Eggs Is Normal
1. There is 9 in this clutch, 4 have hatched. 2. No, she had stopped laying for approx5 days and started again. It is the first 4 of this 9 that have already hatched. 3, Yes I know it is normal for them to have the 2nd clutch, I just did not want her to. I'll just have to keep my finger crossed, that I get to remove the eggs in time. I dont want to throw any that are due in the nest 2-3 days. Although I may have to do it now as some have hatched daily instead of every 2nd day -2 hatched in 15 days Cindy

How Many Eggs Is Normal
I have a hen that tarted laying before her babies left the nest. I discared the first two and thought she had stopped laying when no more appeared for 4 days. She had one baby left in the nest as it was the youngest by7 days. When he left the nest there were 3 eggs under him (cunning Mum). Well so far 3 have hatched. The first at 16 days, 2nd at 16 days, 3rd at 15 days. (these were numbered when baby was removed) Is it likely all 9 will hatch? I dread the thought If so, do I foster them out? If I have to foster them out, is it best to put them with a male that I know is a good feeder. Or a Hen. Please dont tell me all 9 will hatch:blink: Cindy

3 Month Old
Since Georgie-girl passed away, Bruce is constantly being attacked by a three month old female. (Actually his granddaughter) She will hook her beak on his and really throw him off his perch. Mind you, he is much larger than her, but she is always attacking him, with her beak wide open. I have taken her away and put her in a cage temporarily, but I just dont know what to do with her. n Any advice???? Cindy
