What Could Be Going Wrong?
Never help a chick free itself from the shell. If a baby can't get out of the shell by itself it probably won't survive anyway. A shell does not weigh enough to damage a baby.

We Have Babies! - Again :))
Just make sure you do remove the box after this. Hens can handle 2 clutches twice a year without too much trouble. You shouldn't allow hens to raise more than 12-15 babies a year for the sake of the hen. I try and prevent my hens from laying a second clutch immediately after the first clutch fledges. If I have another laying hen I give her the eggs & remove the box from the first.

Lots Of Eggs!
7 eggs is alot but isn't too much for the hen to handle. A lady on a different forum said her fathers bird has 7 babies & 9 eggs & she is doing fine.

Rejected Baby
Unless you want to continue hand feeding it yourself I'd foster it to the other pair. They will make sure it is okay.

Lots Of Eggs, No Babies
Poor girl all that work for naught! If she makes a nest under the nest box move it & her into the box, that may encourage her to use the box.

Should I Add Wood Shavings To Nest?
I've added woodshavings to the nest after the babies have hatched with no trouble. The only thing is the hen throws it out so you have to keep adding it till she gets the hint & leaves it.
