Hey, why eat a perfectly good head scratcher? hehe
  2. Very pretty, he looks like a baby blue
  3. . . . and of course to reward such cuteness you just had to let him out?
  4. Gorgeous! I love the poofed out face with the hooded eyes. He's adorable.

You should be proud of actually doing it yourself. Alot of people just buy stuff (like me - I'm lazy hehe!) when they could save themselves alot of money and gain much satisfaction knowing they like something that you made.
  6. I found this link on a new forum I've joined, ignore the name as I think it pertains to all avian species. http://www.finchsociety.org/cfa/worms/worms.htm
  7. Kernel is a handsome boy!
  8. Well the budgies certainly sound like they are courting so it shouldn't be too long before eggs appear. I cannot help you with baby colours but one of the genetics lovers will be able to provide some hints. Bourkes will pretty much breed in the warmer months. The success I've had breeding them is between December - March. The other times they lose interest & let the babies die. They will not breed in the same cage/aviary as budgies. Don't know anything about cockatiel breeding sorry.
  9. Lovely pictures, very funny! :(Laughing out loud):
  10. He is a very cute bird
  11. Bourkes & Cockatiels are good together. Budgies & Bourkes are okay but the female budgies like to pull out the Bourkes' feathers & the Bourkes won't breed in the same cage as budgies. In short, leave out the budgies. $66 for a pair of Rosa Bourkes is a good price.
  12. Careful Bea, the skin cancer authorities are issuing warnings not to forget that you can still get burnt in the shade.
  13. It's amazing what the old tried & true methods will do. My father used weetbix 40 years ago before there was all this fancy hand rearing mixtures & the birds back then were often better than they are these days, rarely did they get sick. I'm glad the little one is healthier. I would guess s/he is around 3+ weeks old. I hope s/he makes it.
  14. Sorry to say but I think it is too late for the little mite especially if it is refusing food. At the stage you describe I would say it will die sometime today or overnight. You have been doing all the right things. Sometimes the babies just give up and there is nothing you can do. Keep trying until the end though it might turn around. A tip - mushy weet bix is an old time recipe. Melt some sugar in water and put (only barely slightly warm) drops on the end of your finger and put it to the side of the babies beak. Some should go in it's beak where it might swallow. Feel it's crop - is there any dried food that could be stuck in there? Good luck but I do fear it is too late. My fingers are crossed for you.
  15. I thought the cage was cute - useless but cute. Could plant a bouganvillea in it.
  16. Just played it & Max chirped to him!!

You know Daz, funny thing is - I've always thought most of my birds were pretty ordinary. My dad even said compared to what he used to breed I don't have a single decent bird among them!! Just as well, showing birds is way to much trouble for my taste & takes away some of the enjoyment!

He is a strapping boy that one! Does he still think he's a youngster & try to breed?

I'm not up on technical/proper terms for birds but they are what I & my dad have always called Lacewings. I think Lisa is a yellow lacewing.
  22. Boris is not particularly into it. She will eat it but it's not her favourite.

You are very welcome Daz. I picked out the very best of the ones I had for sale. They are absolutely beautiful birds. Remember Daz, I owe you one.
