  1. Kirby, a lady never tells her age. But since I'm no lady I will tell you - I'm 33. I think your father doesn't want to take a chance of you losing interest - which usually starts to happen at your age. When do you get your driving licence? Lin, I think you are right! Time to save up for more aviaries before the softy changes his mind!
  2. Just realised from reading a post elsewhere that he can't be Fallow. He doesn't have red eyes!
  3. Sure! But I don't post overseas so you have to collect him! :hap:
  4. 1. Black 2. Grey Wing Skyblues / split White Wing Skyblue 3. 6 4. Red 5. Opaline 6. White 7. It is ready to sleep - (mine do it because they feel like doing it!) 8. 100% 9. Black 10. Opaline Edit: 40 % Right Karen
  5. This boy we have on this forum & others tried to identify him but no one has been certain. Well he went through his moult over a month ago and is in good colour now so lets try it again. I still can't get a great photo but I will describe him in natural light, put my idea then post photo's. He looks like a pale lilac colouring, he has brown markings. I think he is: Dominant Pied, Dilute Violet & Fallow. Picture time: This is his parents (daz - he is Jazz' full brother):
  6. Okay, saying she was back to normal was probably a bit optimistic. That damn budgie will not leave me alone tonight!!! How the heck am I supposed to watch football with a budgie in my face kissing me non stop?? I was trying to type before and she was attacking my fingers!!! Leave me alone for 5 minutes please???
  7. Wow! Except for the nest boxes that is exactly like the one I just chucked (it has a hex on it)! Did you make that? Good job! My father said to me "if you get any more aviaries they are to go up the back yard". YAY!!! That's gotta mean I can get another right?
  8. Thanks Jen, that was what I was thinking - I remembered your words in my lacewing hen & lutino cock post. See, you can teach an old Karen new tricks!
  9. Not yet Jen, only the eldest has coloured up enough - although all babies look like they are going to have white tails & white flights, don't know about the rest of the wings yet.
  10. Okay people who know genetics. Photo today shows one of the babies is a lacewing. I know that right up to the grandparents are pure Lutino. Where did the lacewing come from? any will the baby be a boy or girl?
  11. okay daz, put me down for 2! I just chucked of double breeding cage today so need 2 more.
  12. I thought I had better start their own thread as they are solely responsible for the upbringing of the babies. They are responsible for 2 of the Lacewing hens & Lutino cocks babies (3rd died yesterday), Mrs Robinson & Her Toy Boy's baby (no more leg splay!) and an Albino Hen & Dominant Pied cocks baby. The hen took each new baby joyfully and is an excellent mum. I usually let her & her hubby breed but felt it would be prudent to have them as standby parents. Lucky for me they were available! Anyway, here they are: most of you would recognise them: These are the babies as of today. I took notice of someone's (can't remember who) and put a paper towell at the bottom of the nest box. That and handling Mrs Robinsons baby every 2nd day seems to have done the trick - can't notice any leg splay any more.
  13. I have been handling the baby every 2nd day and it seems to have paid off! No more leg splay!!! YIPPEE!! Isn't it the cutest?
  14. Took this photo this afternoon, baby looks like it will have it's mothers colouring:
  15. Well Boris has gone totally back to her normal self. I uncovered her this morning, put my finger near her and she bit it. I gave her a cuttlefish piece before and she has stopped playing with her bottle tops long enough to have a go at demolishing it. I don't think she's eating much (if any) of it as there is a growing pile of white powder! :bluebudgie: Her vent is still clear and she is passing normal poops. :ausb:
  16. My chest is still heaving at the thought of anything happening to my baby! I never knew they had blood either as I usually only see the white egg - occasionally I might see a light streak of blood. They must clean it off, the same as mammals who clean their babies after giving birth - or else it could be because it is her first egg. No chance the egg is fertile. She has been offering herself to mum & myself for the past couple weeks now & we have not taken her up on her offer! :(Laughing out loud):
  17. I was going to put Boris to bed as she's had a very busy night terrorising eveyone. I heard her making funny noises and couldn't see her on the perch, got up and she's lying on the floor under the food bowl still making these awful whiny/squeaky noises. I start to panic, mum says don't worry she always makes noises when she's ready to go to bed. At most Boris sits on her perch and gives a light chirp now and again. Still panicking I say to mum she's not right, she's sick!! I get her out of the cage and cup her in my hands thinking "she's going to die!" I'm nearly in tears! Boris is still making those noises!! What does she want? What can I do? All my years of experience in birds goes out the door, I don't know what to do! It's 9.40 pm! No vets are open! I can't drive I've had a couple drinks!! HELP!!! Boris is laying cupped in my hands squeaking, pleading with me with her eyes to do something, anything!! Oh gosh! not my baby!!! She grips my thumb with her beak - not hard and starts to lightly convulse! This is it! I'm too late!! I notice something is changing in her, I hold her up & lift her tail and look at her vent. She's going to do a big fat poop! She must have been constipated! Oh gross! No big poop on me Boris!! As I lower her down to chest level she turns her head and looks at me, squeaks one last time, and lays an egg in my hand!!!!!!!!! I am dumbfounded! Mum starts to laugh & runs and tells dad who starts laughing! I'm staring at this bloody egg in my hand in shock. "Quick mum get the camera" I yell! Snap 2 shots & Boris comes to me and gives me a kiss. She is in bed now, resting. I will give her plenty of attention tomorrow. I will even give her another bottle top to play with (her favourite toy). If you want to see, these photo's taken within 1 minute of Boris laying it so it is pretty yucky looking.
  18. (Laughing out loud), I once gave Boris a honey seed stick, she stiffed it and wouldn't touch it! I gave it to the aviary budgies, they all took a bite and abandoned it - I guess they told me what they thought of this sweet food!!
  19. You can transfer bubs to a new breeding box without mum rejecting them - I have done it on many occassions when the old box needs discarding. The trick is to transfer as much of the contents (poop, feathers etc) as is possible so that it smells like the old box. Do not place them with other budgies! They would experience trouble & poor mum would be over stressed already without trying to defend the babies.
  20. Lacewings are technically not an ino but are a mutation of ino. This is what is known as a White Lacewing: Sex: Female http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kar...iteHen29-10.jpg This is what is known as a Yellow Lacewing: Sex: Female http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kar...wingYellow2.jpg I will just post the link as the picture is too large. Following picture is of 3 Albino's & a White Lacewing. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kar...Family29-10.jpg
  21. Thanks Anna! Kirby? Keep your little mitts away from my teeth! At my age you definately need em! :ausb::
  22. Well talk has gone on alot about weighing budgies for health etc. I have not ever weighed my birds as I can tell from picking them up if they are overweight or not - yes I can! and any breeder can!! But, just for the sake of information being available for everyone - and myself if I change my mind - what is the best type of weighing machine to use for weighing birds (not just budgies)? My kitchen scales go up in 20g increments so obviously are not suitable.
  23. Well I am lucky then, my birds eat almost all of their seeds. Some budgies won't eat any sunflower or safflower seeds but what they don't eat the wild birds do. I am happy that I don't have fussy birds except Boris who thinks any fruit or vegie that is not celery is dangerous! :ausb:
  24. Yep, she is 100% albino alright! Why'd you think DF Spangle? She isn't in breeding condition but she is fostering.
