congratulations Smilyl! It's very exciting your first babies huh? (I'm too old to remember my first baby budgies )
  3. Nah Daz, dad is a light (?) green spangle. A handsome devil indeed! and very loyal to his partner!
  4. : Lin, mum was here!! Although Boris still offers herself to me to mate with her!!! When will she learn that I AM NOT A BUDGIE!!! & definately not a MALE one!!
  5. Boris went absolutely ballistic this week during the full moon, she was even less obedient than usual! I was off work Wednesday & she was the worst I have ever experienced her! She refused to come when I called her, she broke one of my mum's Temple Dogs (super glue comes in handy!). She got into everything, hung off everything!!1 She was driving me nuts so I caught her after she led me on a merry chase around the house for nearly 10 minutes (took me an hour to recover! ). She is much better now thank goodness! Last night she was on my shoulder trying to eat my glasses, after I had enough of that I said "Boris go home & eat". You know what? She did!! Not straight away but 45 seconds after I told her to she was inside having a feed. Anyone else find their birds go crazy on Full Moons?

Love your show sized birds! Great colours too!!
  7. Triple trouble
  8. The foster mum is a traditional Albino - and a gorgeous and loving mum! She just gets involved in rearing and doesn't bathe until after the babies have fledged.
  9. Sorry Kirby, I'm keeping all of these darlings!
  10. The baby is too young/small for corrective measures as yet. The optimum timeframe to successfully correct it is when baby is 7-12 days old. In all my years of budgie breeding I have only come across it 3 times, this is my 4th. The method I use to correct splay is what I call the 'handcuff method' where it involves 2 legs rings & a piece of pantyhose. It has plenty of give so when baby grows it can move freely but tight enough that the deformity doesn't become permanent. Also the parents leave it alone. I have had to remove baby from it's parents as they have stopped feeding it. The pair that are fostering 2 of the the lacewings babies have happily accepted 'their' new baby.
  11. Must have changed, when my dad bred birds in the 50's the dominant pied was called harlequin. Still only the one baby - mumma is very protective of this little one:
  12. I think it may have a slight case of leg splay - it could be as a result of the smooth floor, I'll have to keep an eye on it. I put some wood shavings back in the box so hopefully it will be okay. I actually put it in my hand & it can bend it's legs.
  13. Mrs Robinson is 2-3 years old and Toy Boy is around 6 months old. If you can't stop em, let em - at least Toy Boy knows what to do! Little parcel of joy I found today: .
  14. I took these pictures today. Technically they hve 6 babies as 2 others are with foster parents (which I will show) Babies with original parents: Foster parents - (parents of Daz' bird Jazz and many other lovely blues) they really care for their young: Fostered babies: .
  15. I was going to take the hen out today as she is a 'non-producer'. I grabbed the nest box and voila! I found a baby!! I didn't even know they had eggs!!! :ausb: This is the parents: This is the baby (do I need to be concerned about the air bubble?): What are the breeding expectations from this pair? I don't know their history as they were bought birds. .
  16. I'm not a bit fan of crested budgies myself. Apart from the crests though they are pretty good looking fallows.
  17. Well I had removed the other 4 eggs as I didn't want to stress mum out being her first time and all. I am pleased to announce that 2 of the other eggs I fostered out have hatched & the foster mum & dad are happily looking after and protecting them from the big bad monster (me).
  18. Great examples of Fallows on this site: http://w1.avis.ne.jp/~hirocafe/columns/budgerigar1.html

Hi Allie, Goose sounds adorable. I look forward to hearing all your funny stories you will have about him as you grow & bond.
  20. Love Frippe! He is a beautiful little fat boy!
  21. Your birds sound lovely. Looking forward to when you can get photo's. I had a Snowy once, beautiful boy, loads of personality.
  22. If I don't want the parents to lay eggs again I remove the box as soon as the youngest has made it's first couple of forays out of the box & can sit unaided on a perch.
  23. As usual I am way late reading this post. Congrats Nerwen on a great aviary! I got the same one. You don't need another door, just go in with a bird net and they stay away (Laughing out loud)! I have pavers on the bottom of mine. I have it topped with cardboard which I change weekly - have tried: kitty litter, sawdust, hay (don't ever use!) and have found cardboard & newspaper is the best thing for keeping it clean (quail make more mess!). At the moment I 'decorate' the aviary with leaves & branches from my parents' pruning efforts which the birds love!

(Laughing out loud) one of the few natural fragrances . . . I only use eucalyptus because I enjoy that fragrance. Lavender is also good & cheaper than avicleans.
