  3. I think recessive too YF2 skyblue male - very beautiful!!
  4. Awww how wonderful!! If my hand attempts to give Bobby the pleasure of a head scratch it gets bitten No food for my starving hands You are so luck to have such a bond with your budgies!!
  5. Bobby & Sunny's cage - same dimensions as Bea's (inch's 30wx 18d x 18h) Have 2 budgies in there - have had 4 but was too crowded I have a mixture of rope perches, natural perches and a pedi-perch Type is flight cage was bought from local petshop $A60 Juleslou - I buy my rope perches off this website - best prices ever and fantastic service http://www.thepaintedparrot.com.au/Toys%20Home.htm also heaps of really cool toys at a fantastic price! My I suggest if buying perches from here get the medium sized perch, perfect length and great diameter - I found the small was a bit 2 short... (still got 2 of them though hehe)

  7. Well the splint was due to come off next Tuesday anyway, I called the vets and he was reluctant to put another one on him, and he is standing on it, climbing around his cage, scratching with it and using it like a typical foot.... the vet said not to re-splint it, but to leave him in his cage for a week so he doesn't add extra stress to it.... Bobby is extremely happy to be without his splint and collar, and had a mega-preening session the instant it was removed! :dbb1:
  8. Thanks Feathers!! He is a cheeky lil thing - but thats what I love most about him!
  9. Thanks Bea - good idea.. I have just gone to work now and won't be home til 5pm I was watching him frantically preen this morning and he was scratching himself with that leg and also standing on it to scratch with the other one, he also streched it behind himself under his wing.... but as soon as I get home I will put him in the small cage
  10. The splint is off again With one week to go before his is supposed to have it removed, should I put him through the trauma of another vet visit and anaesthetic and splint, or keep him contained so he doesn't aggrevate it anymore?? Bear in mind the avian vet doesn't work today (it is Monday morning her)
  11. ooh that might be a good idea to get Bobby to eat his vegies!! He loves his reflection, so he might eat them out of the way so he can flirt with himself!! :bluebudgie:
  12. She is a really little beauty!! :hap:

I know it seems really premature, but as some of you may know, I am planning on building an avairy once new house is finished, then I want to start breeding some budgies. I want to buy a few older pairs so they can breed as soon as they get into condition, but I want to know what the general go is for breeders, and what is actually given to them. I know the normal - seed, pellets, egg & biscuit, vegies and eggfood is a good healthy daily diet, for both avairy budgies, breeders and inside birds, but also I have heard others talk about iodine blocks and minerals in the water. Is this something that should be given to all budgies, indoor, outdoor and breeders alike, or only for breeders? How soon before you start breeding them should they be given these things, are they necessary for healthly chicks and breeders and what do they actually do for the birds? I want to ensure I am doing my absolute best to give my babies the best diet they can have, as well as in the future, ensure the health of my breeders and their chicks.

I just had a look at that link - the pellets seem really good, and something I would like to try... I will be in Melbourne next month, right by one of the distributors, and I will get a bag to try Thanks heaps for sharing!
  19. what a funny topic!! I guess my budgies are unusual then.... Bobby used to hump one perch, but once they got the new cage he stopped that, I've never seen Sunny hump anything hehe :(Laughing out loud):
  20. I think it is a great idea!!!
  21. Another update.... I have rearranged his collar so he can get around easier, he is using his foot heaps now, still trying to chew his bandage at any possible moment, but he can't reach it... I took this cute but funny picture today and had to share it with you!! You can see he is standing on it and gripping!! Superbudgie to the rescue!!!
  22. Last week it was in the 30's, today we actually had snow I'm not sure how it will affect your budgies, but I think you have done all you can to protect them
  23. They can't be spilt for spangle unfortunately - spangle is a visual gene! (who would want to hide such a pretty gene anyway )
