What's On The Bottom Of Your Cage?
Anything edible that is dual purpose and they use it as a perch is going to get pooped on and contaminated in a very short space of time. Not my idea of a safe thing for a bird.

What Fruit And Veg Can I Feed My Budgies?

What's On The Bottom Of Your Cage?
I dont have calcium perches, sandpaper perches or pumice stone perrches and none of my 240 budgies or any of the hundreds of budgies I have ever had have had nail growth issues I cant believe how many unnecessary petshop products are sold to dupe the public and how many people believe that certain things are needed when they are NOT.

Health Concern Question - My Budgie's Vent
Remove immediately that stupid circular disc known as a mite protector. They send out toxic vapours and are harmful to birds and do nothing for mites. He may have scaly mites which affect his feet and legs, can affect vent area as well as beak and around eyes. If so the treatment is spot on ivermectin. Please throw away the mite protector.

What is the bar spacing ?
-
New Cage
The bar spacing on that particular cage look too big. Go no bigger than 12mm bar spacing. Shaped tops are a waste. It makes them look bigger than they actually are.....there is wasted areas that arent as usable as you would hope. No point hanging a swing in that area if it cant be flown on to and swinging on it hits the sides. At least with a flat top you can put a budgie playgym on top.

If grandmother was a green opaline, then the grandfather father was NOT the grey budgie you first showed us because you cannot get a spangle out of two non spangle parents. I think the real grandfather was the skyblue spangle.

In general dont we show breeders have a bit more background knowledge of the birds we breed..............i.e. parents, grandparents, family history, inherant faults etc. Dont we also have a trained eye for " faults" when pairing up birds ? I dont think you can apply the same rules for birds bought from pet stores with no history of parentage. My opinion only.

Dont feel sorry for them. You force bred brother and sister. Its up to us, as responsible breeders to ensure we pair birds correctly and not brothers and sisters. As Dave said spangle is a dominant gene and as such a bird either is a spangle or it isnt. At least one parent has to be a spangle to get spangle babies in a clutch. and to get a lutino out of that clutch Dad ( the grey one ) has to be split lutino. The lutino hen that came from that pairing would also be masking spangle......if the mother was spangle which it seems she was. I think your yellow and white chicks are double factor spangles as their eyes dont look red in those photos. At the time the grandparent bred were you colony breeding in the aviary ? and were there other possible parents ?- Breeding Help?
We're not calling into question the trustworthiness of the breeder. It's just that so many of the diseases they have can be dormant in a host bird, and not come to light until that bird is exposed to the stress of new surroundings. The breeder's birds may be immune to something, and therefore healthy, but they could give it to your birds. It goes the other way , too, because your birds may carry something without it affecting them. But when a new bird comes in, it may be susceptible, and come down with it. The stress of moving into a new home causes a period of time when the new bird's immune system may be weaker and more susceptible than usual. There are some germs that are called opportunistic, meaning they are always present, but they only show up under stressful conditions. So no one can really claim that their birds are 100% germ free. That's why it's best to give a longer quarantine period. Some even suggest 45- 90 days. Finnie has given you excellent advice- Babbieesss
You tried to seperate but yet you breed cabinet breeding ? In that case you deliberately paired them together and you really shouldnt have.- Babbieesss
I believe to get a lutino from the parents Dad has to be split lutino. To get an albino from both parents they both have to be split blue AND Dad has to be split ino as well. If the chicks dont have red eyes that means they arent inos at all. Mum, being lutino can be masking spangle in which case if the chicks have black eyes they are DF spangles. You need to check the eyes...........tomorrow in better light conditions. Have you a photo of the back of the grey chick showing its tail pin feathers as well as wing feathers ? PS an all white budgie is only an albino if it has red eyes. An all yellow budgies is only a lutino if it has red eyes.- Babbieesss
Neither of these two look to have red eyes. Do they or not ? Photo of the parents please ? - Loads Of Fun With A Plastic Tube!
