  1. Best of luck Maddy
  2. As the others have said...... Light Green Opaline Spangle hen Grey-green spangle cock the hen has all claws forward on her left foot too. Either an injury or an inherited fault. School of thought on these things is its inherited. Both nice looking birds. If the cock is carrying opaline you will end up with opaline chicks and spangle to spangle will give you a 25% chance of double factor spangle babies too. Give them time to settle in
  3. You never did add the new photos.........iris ring photos and back of her for markings. Photos of the father ( pairing ) and the babies too ?
  4. Special ones get names. Some BBC members name my budgies on occasion but mostly they have ring numbers.
  5. read this topic before you begin putting nestboxes in an aviary http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=28294&hl=
  6. Terrific aviary As long as you dont try breeding in there you could house around 100 - 150 in that size aviary if the feeding areas and perching is right PS soil floor and mesh to the ground will mean you have to deal with mice, rats and anything that can dig into the aviary. Mice can go through the average aviary mesh. If you tin the sides of the aviary up about 2ft ( 60cms ) you can avoid them getting through the mesh.

How's the new aviary going ?
  8. I was told overdosing with protein is extremely harmful. There are articles on it but I dont have them to hand. Worth investigating as protein levels would be hard to assess I would imagine. Most of us would be operating off trial and error I suspect and perhaps could be endangering the health of our birds if we dont have the correct knowledge at hand.
  9. Tim is excellent as is a female vet there as well
  10. Im that enthused about the new classes that I dont even know what they will be , In saying that if I pair a heap of odd varieties together then im sure I will have something to fit in the proposed classes. :D
  11. also the symmetry of those markings across the wing butts and as you said lack of colour through the flights
  12. Try reading this article http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=23215
  13. I have heard more than once about some members who are falling away from their clubs due to lack of interest. When quizzed it is made clear to me that they have decided they cant compete either at their new open level or financially anymore. Once you get to open level is this all there is to look forward to ? Either its time to shell out the BIG $$$$s or you dont show birds anymore as the bigger longstanding breeders in your club will pound you into the ground at every show ? Some of these people have terrific birds but they are baulking at bringing their birds to shows now as a bigger more financial breeder is likely to make the show all their own and take home all the prizes. If this is the way some breeders feel like they are suffocating and its all not worthwhile anymore, where are we headed ? If the price of good birds is now dictated by those with deep pockets and our new club members are coming in for awhile becoming shocked and leaving, and those elevated to Open are now feeling like it isnt worth it anymore either financially or by competing, are we marking our own clubs death warrants ? Any thoughts ? Solutions ?
  14. Chi Chi is not a well budgie at all and it is serious. They cant go on for weeks like this without them either drastically losing bodyweight and dying. The poos is not normal and show losing fluids. If you pick him up feel the bone running vertically down the front of his chest. Does it feel kinda sharpish to you ? If so he has lost weight. The vomiting can be either canker or megabacteria and both require the attendance to an avian vet for a cure. I understand you have to convince your mother, but please see this as urgent and wait no longer. Other wise you will be digging a grave in a very short space of time.
  15. how on earth could you mistake this bird for a recessive pied ?
  16. as Nerwen already told you it will be either white or yellow with red eyes. As you didnt say what colour your pied was it could go either way......white albino or yellow lutino.
  17. I can see pin feathers still in sheaths so yes...........he is moulting.
  18. Your friend must be wrong........sorry. You have treated with SCATT which is ivermectin or should I say Moxidectin and you have treated with mite spray. Avomectin and Moxydectin treatments are similar to Ivermectin Both of which will kill any mites. You might well be confusing normal preening and scratching with presence of mites. Dont get too carried away or you will overdose and poison your birds. SCATT http://www.thebirdcottage.com/s-scatt.asp
  19. Double factor white spangle boy ( with suffusion ) Double factor yellow spangle skyblue spangle female.
  20. She doesnt have to have banged into anything. The brown part of the cere peels off on a regular basis over a year. Its normal.
  21. I totally agree with GB and seed must be available to them at all times. Birds needs for food differ on a daily basis and some days they will eat more. They will eat more when cold or in winter, they will eat more when breeding. One bird will eat all the food leaving another to starve. If you have several feeding areas in a cage with seed always there you run no risks. If you serve it like a meal in a measured dose expect problems. and re pellets
  22. When a female budgies cere isnt brownish red the top layer peels away to reveal a whitish blue to greyish look underneath. Thats what she would appear like when not in breeding condition. You may be seeing some of that as her brown part peels away. Here's a hen whose cere is peelinbg off to reveal that underneath colour
  23. I have had freezing cold eggs hatch.......a percentage of them will. Hope some of yours do too.
  24. Budgies hate the taste of Wormout Gel Good to know. I gave it to my husband for his parrots
