  1. No, it isnt just about breeding condition....its budgies nature to chew wood. Even babies in a kindie cage will chew through their wooden ladders.
  2. Did you use a LEVEL ?
  3. The mother did this to remove the chick from the nest to begin another round of egglaying. You need to remove the mother to another cage out of the hearing of the dad and leave him to care for the other babies. The one with the damaged beak will not grow it back. It will need handfeeding for its life most likely if its lost that much of its beak. Its all up to you now to feed this baby....you may have to try hand rearing formula off a syringue or bent spoon if it will take it. Do not be swayed by how fine it appears right now as they go into shock and often die the next day as damage is often more serious than we first realise. You will need warmth for it due to the shock...a warm lamp near a little cage for it....best to keep it in one place with warmth than on your shoulder right now.
  4. Violets arent rare but may be rarely seen in petshops as they would be the first ones sold. Howeever members on here most likely would appreciate being told where they can get one if they are after some themselves
  5. Sad, so sad Perhaps they should try some anger management sooner rather than later? it was Hans
  6. All birds on the ground Adults Babies Havent scraped and vacuumed the floor in there for a few days as its been too hot to bother the birds. The chick from the box of Big Blue feeling the heat a bit
  7. I have received a message about my pet bug in "other places" Punched a hole in my monitor today trying to kill that bug on all your forum posts
  8. Best of luck with your chickie baby Have to laugh at you turning up the heat and here we are sweltering in over 107 degrees F
  9. I'll bet you are feeling more positive after that mate
  10. You can use the teabag itself Renee. How many times you must guage by checking her...maybe twice....your choice.
  11. Temperature guage in my flights says 46 degrees :sadsorry: All birds good....a lot on perches not all on the floor. More large icechunks put in drinkers and large baths added for splashing of water.
  12. 42 degrees Celcius so far :sadsorry: Thats 107.6 degrees fahrenheit
  13. I have to say something..............I would hate for you to find a bird the way i did due to toys that are dangerous this one any fringing on toys longer than an inch and a half can often result in hanging a bird :sadsorry: they weave throughy the fringing and turn and twist and next thing you know they are caught up. I have lost three birds over the years this way. One was only caught by the wing but flapped and flapped to free itself until it died. Other two were found with the fringing twisted so tight around the neck that even the one found still alive could not be freed without death. Suggest remove that toy or cut off fringing to a very short length.
  14. The psittavet spoon is a 5 gram spoon....whether or not it fits into the oxy b container is irrelevant. Pour the oxy b onto the psittavet spoon over a sheet of clean paper and put back any spilt powder.
  15. A very hot dry easterly wind of sorts down at the aviary and breeding room complex right now although the breeding room is always cooler. I froze full cups of water last night into large iceblocks and have put one or two in each of the large drinkers and can replace through the day as the drinkers water ends up somewhere between lukewarm and warm during the day without it.
  16. Googling eye problems in budgies you find these kinds of advice...... Conjunctivitis can be caused by a number of factors, to including injuries, bacteria, fungi, nematodes, and protozoa. Diagnostic testing is necessary to determine exactly what causes each case of conjunctivitis. Eyes. Check for changes in the normality of your bird's eyes. Swelling and/or clouding can mean infections or mites, or a Vitamin A deficiency. When coupled with other symptoms it could mean a more severe respiratory infections, or even psittacosis. If you notice continuing (longer than 24 hours) eye discharge, or changes in the eyes normal appearance, go to your vet.
  17. Bathing with a teabag and warm tea water also works in the same way as salted water.
  18. You need large iceblocks in your budgies drinking water.
  19. Ta-Da !!! Invisible Budgie. Clicked to take a picture and the budgie flew off, Picture shows where the budgie was and wasnt all at the same time
  20. As long as there is plenty of space and no nestboxes all should be fine. But do you quarantine at all ? doesnt sound like you do.
  21. Near on 7:30 and the temperature in the flights is 37 degrees celcius. All happy and chirpy though, Sorry to hear about the deaths RIP I remember one summer once getting to 46 and 47 degrees.
  22. Our bird dealer place today had some birds exactly the same as the ones i saw in the wild flock. Lable on the cage said they were long billed corella crossed with pink and grey galahs Price ? $600 each.
  23. Very very important that you follow this advice as soon as possible
  24. Another hot day in Perth Western Australia. The birds in the flights had drunk all their water by 11am. They now have double the amount of fresh water in the large drinkers and extra bowls of water to paddle through and bathe in. Even the cage drinkers water felt warm to the touch. Noone but noone can convince me icecubes arent a good way to go.
