Aviary Security
Just had a thought - Have you reported this to the Police? I think they should be notified.No. I once had experience of a vicious break in to my place of business when I ran a work premises...they smashed the front door in and took all my computer gear etc. They left behind a pocket knife with very clear fingerprints on it, and the cops just didnt want to know about it...couldnt care less. So I seriously doubt my birds will be of interest to them. :laughter: Neighbours are fine......we are easy about their barking dog issues and they are good about our birds. If anyone was p*ssed off about our birds they would talk to us first and call council if we didnt want to know.

Well theres room down there for me to sleep there mate This is the corner where the attempted break in occurred ..........the upright pole had the wire undone from it and the wire pulled away for access.........now repaired and made less accessible.

Don't be so Judgemental Renee! You need bigger dogs Kaz!!! Or I should come over early and sleep nakid in your backyard... that will keep them away The dogs are good....sometimes its how we interpret their barking isnt it I will pay more attention from now on, as they never bark for no reason. Naked Maesie ? Hmmmm even the dogs wear coats  PS we are reassessing the security measures.

My Birds Are Unwell
Have all my fingers crossed for your ongoing flock improvement GB :laughter: Some people need to read more before commenting. As we have all figured out by now you dont like to medicate willy nilly and any you have done of late was after illness and upon vet advice. Vet treatment we all know would have been very hard on you financially ......but you did all you could for your birds anyway ..good on you mate

New Budgie On Thursday
are you sure you want to be buying from a place like that then ? Buying is a form of support, not necessarily a way to save a budgie. Anyway, if you choose to go ahead, post a picture so we can help you ID the bird.

New Budgie On Thursday
No such mutation as a flourescent pied budgie.........just another made up name by an amateur ( the bloke ) and you wont hear of one again unless its the same fellow making up more new names :laughter: Tell him you will swap him a budgie book so he can learn to call them by their right names in return for the budgie.

Aviary Security
It is, but anyone determined will find a way to get what they want. Did you take a photo of the hole when you discovered it? Is it easy to fix? No................top priority was to close it up which I did immediately.

Aviary Security
So what you are saying is they did not want to steal your young birds but instead allow them to escape? And from the sounds of things it could be anyone 'cause all they had to do was check out your set up and birds online here for example? Jeeze Kaz, that is pretty low. Escape or steal.............the thing is they could have been interrupted..............there is access of varying kinds for anyone determined enough when you think about it.

Aviary Security
Whoever tried knew there was screws to be undone and would have come with those tools.... being prepared. The wire has also been pulled aside with a gap large enough for a hand, arm or for budgies to get out. A few nights ago the birds were flying around in there in panic, slamming into walls and making a lot of noise. I went down and checked and left a nightlight on for them to give them a chance to settle. It was around the same time Ken thought someone had got in through a side gate.

Aviary Security
I have just discovered for the second time an attempt to break into my aviary. The first time I didnt take all that seriously...thought some screws had come adrift, or were missed in the new aviary build. This time I was around the back of the pop out section of my aviary and discovered all screws have been undone and a large gap where the aviary wire has been pulled aside. I may have lost birds but unless I chase them all up in the hot weather and check against records I wont know for now. Dogs have been barking at something a few nights ago. We thought barking at another dog. Obviously not. My husband also thought someone had been in our yard some days ago. Both times the attempt to break in has been targetting my junior flight.......babies aviary. Time to rethink security, and know that all is not good here in Perth Western Australia.

No Apostrophe In A Plural
What I find funny, is handwritten signs in hardware stores like Bunnings..........mis-spelt but the item is right next to the sign and they could have copied the correct spelling straight off the box. I go to the main counter and ask who their signwriter is and tell them they need one that can spell.

Hey Guys, I'm New Here!
You dont need to do that. The sexes have been worked out here on this forum. DNA sexing is most often done for parrots where its harder to tell. Budgies ceres are the indicator and easier to sex than most parrots.
