Thundra now....posted for Dave who named her

Ratzy's Breeding Journal
Ratzy, I understand how exciting this is for you However, you really need to be very discreet in your observations and check the nest box once in the morning and once in the evening MAXIMUM. You run the risk of freaking her out - a stressed hen will not brood properly (incubate the eggs) and will have "issues" raising the young. Agreed.

Hot Days Are With Us Already!
Better weather today.........so far overcast/cloudy with max temperature meant to be 31 degrees C I am sure Nubbly will correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is backlining is chemically treating sheep for lice generally around the same time they are shorn.

Hot Days Are With Us Already!
This extended part is nice, Kaz, so you don't have to worry about getting your concrete floor wet. Some of it gets wet depending on how hard I turn the sprinklers on but it dries up real fast in this heat

....and Another Budgie For My Flock...
Why are you saying yellowface. Its a green budgie. Even mine shown above has that bluish colour by the legs you were seeing in yours and mine isnt yellowface.

....and Another Budgie For My Flock...

Our Aviary
You cannot have rain getting in anywhere in your aviary as dampness can cause coccidiosis. If you are worried about the base wood rotting then you can get thick rubber belting from rubber places to put between the bottom wooden rail and the concrete base......make it just as wide as the wood. Also a roof that overlaps enough so rain doesnt get in OR one of those plastic pergolas from Bunnings or hardware stores so its protected during rainy weather. You will need shade and rain protection if its not under cover.

Our Aviary
You will need a safety door area.............this can be acchieved by hanging a net over the door so you can go in and out without losing birds.......try anf find one of those long nets on hoops popular for hanging over kids beds...attach it to the top over the door and step through into the netted area, then into your birds.....when not in use throw it up on top of the aviary. Lovely painted job, BUT the birds will chew all that painted wood.
