  1. Lucky guy! Where are the pellets

Welcome to the forums. Your Claire looks just like my Tweety. Can't wait to see more pictures of her. They are both very lovely! You will find lots of great information here. I got my first 2 budgies in January, and now I'm up to 8. I've learned lots!!!
  3. It amazes me to hear of budgies fostering so easily. I always thought that birds would reject anything that smelled of humans or was not their own. I guess that was a big misconception!
  4. That is my understanding.
  5. Lucky birdies!!! Look at all the toys! I have the rubbery rings with the bell on the bottom. Birds don't bother with it at all. I'd like to know if your birds have any interest in it.
  6. I stumbled on this site today. Has anyone used this? Genetics Calculator
  7. Great pics Lovey! Nice to see him playing!
  8. Thanks Lovey! I think I'll peel the bark to be sure. And I was glad to see lilac on there. I have a lilac bush that has gotten away from me so I can trim it back and make use of some of the branches!
  9. Great pics. And such a pretty colour!
  10. I've been looking online to see which trees might be safe for making branch perches. I have lots of birch on my property and saw the perfect branch on the ground this morning. However, I've read some places that is safe, and others that it is not. Does anyone know for sure?
  11. Do you think that Beka (I finally picked a name for her) could be a clearwing?
  12. I know Kirby... I've gone a little whacko. I'm trying to pick mates now. I think I'll mate Wylie with Star I think I'll mate Sylvester with ???? (haven't picked her name yet). I think I'll mate Tazzy with Tweety. And I now need to find mates for Daffodil and Puddin. Although I'm starting to wonder if Daffodil is a male. Cere looks quite blue on bottom. Do ceres turn completely blue before birds get iris rings? I'm not planning any breeding til 2007. Just finding my ideal pairs now. Still need to learn more. I like the name Kiwi but lots of birdies on this forum have that name. And Emma is my mom's birds name. So..... I'm going to call her Beka in honour of a friend's daughter and because she likes to hang from her beak.
  13. Here are some better shots of my newest flock members. Star Beka I'm in budgie love yet again. :fear :fear
  14. Venus is definately a contender! So the 25% blue would be normal blue (white face/black markings/sky blue body)? So interesting! I thought for sure if they both have visual yellow faces that all babes would have yellow faces and only the body colours might vary some. I'll be so glad when I get this stuff all straight in my head - yeah right?!? Do you say greywing because her body colour is quite strong? Her wing markings look almost green to me - not grey. I find these mutations (dilute/greywing/clearwing) so confusing! But I LOVE them!

So nice! Are you keeping any inside or are they all out in your amazing aviary?

Sounds fantastic. Wish I lived in a climate warm enough for an outdoor aviary. My guys will have to do with a large indoor cage. Looking forward to pics as you progress.
  17. My flock is continuing to grow. I found two lovely breeding mates today for Wylie and Sylvester. They are in quarantine in yet another cage and breeding attempts will not be made until 2007. There are birds everywhere around the house - and I love it. I'm calling the little yellow-faced opaline Star. I'm guessing she is probably a type 1??? I don't see any bleed and her colour is more sky blue than Wylie's. She looks quite young to me. Still has a bit of black on the tip of her beak, and cere is very white. Can't think of a name for the green dilute yet - any suggestions appreciated. She must be a little older. Her cere is beige/brown. She So if I mate Wylie (a yellow face type 2) with Star what will the babies be? I'm assuming all yellow faced blue? But how will the type 1/2 come into play? And the opaline? And if I mate Sylvester (a yellowface type 2 dilute) with the green dilute what will I get? Dilutes I assume but is there any rule for what colours I'll get?
  18. Sorry for your loss. Please keep us posted on how things go with your other eggs and chicks.
  19. Oh my gosh! I love these baby posts. Do you have any predictions about what your bubs will be?
  20. If I were to guess I would say it is a dilute (all over dilution) and not a greywing. The colouring reminds me very much of Tweety's. The blue is slightly different than Tweety's in shade but the intensity of body and wing colour is about the same as hers. She is a dilute. I don't think the grey is dark enough for it to be a greywing (at least in that picture). But that is just my humble opinion. It is a beautiful bird either way!
  21. I am anxious to get them all together. But I'm hanging in with quarantime this time.
  22. No, I thought she might If it had been Tazzy - well I'm sure he would have crashed to the bottom.
  23. I was in the petstore yesterday. There is a lovely little yellow budgie. I thought at first lutino but its eyes are black. If it is Lutino it would have red eyes wouldn't it??? Would that make it a recessive pied with no wing or head markings? I looked closely and I couldn't see any.
  24. This cracked me up. Tweety just about turned herself into a ball trying to preen her stomach. She is molting right now and there are feathers everywhere!!!
  25. Lovey, Sylvester seems to have finished his molt, and he only grew back a couple of feathers. Are there various degrees of molt. Tweety is moulting now and her molt seems much more severe. She is losing a ton of feathers. Poor thing looks horrible. Sylvester looked a little rough above his cere but nothing like her. And I'm finding all kinds of different feathers from Tweety including tail, wing, long body, short body. With Sylvester it just seemed to be the small body feathers and a two clipped wing feathers.
