As I'm sure you've guessed by the change in my signature, the two new budgies are out of quarantine. I took a risk and put them all in the big cage after only 10 days. They were calling to each other constantly, and when Tweety and Sylvester were out, they would fly on the cage of the new birds anyway. They are all doing really well in the big cage and seem so much happier now that they are all together. I know that if anything happens it will be my fault. I thought watching two budgies was enjoyable - well 4 is even better. Tazzy is taming really well. Wylie... well we will keep working with him. Sometimes I think he is a female with his personality. Tweety, my only female (I think) will step up, but I know she'd rather not. And Wylie acts just like her. Anyway, here are a few pics of the four of them. Enjoying the big cage! Don't poop too much on my sofa! So good of them to all sit nicely for me!

Sylvester likes to hang from the top of the cage. I think it is so cute! I'd love to see pics of your budgie doing it!

It might be just from scratching - their little nails are sharp. But I would keep an eye on it and if you are really worried take him to your avian vet. Perhaps others could suggest a topical to put on it??

I'm working with the new budgies Tazzy and Wylie. They are still somewhat skiddish but are coming along. I had Tazzy out on my finger and taking pictures. I turned to the laptop and thought it would be cute to get a picture of him checking out the forum.

Kirby, I think your Ariel has the same colouring as Tazzy. Violet and Cinnamon markings and white body. I wonder if the violet comes from the cinammon gene or vice versa? Or if they are unique genes? I'm a dummy when it comes to the genetic stuff. They are all so pretty!

Kirby, the very last thing you do when ordering is enter the credit card, so you can select the cage you want, etc. and it will tell you the total before you have to commit to purchase. If I remember correctly you aren't charged any US sales tax. All your total will include will be the price of the cage and shipping (which will probably be $98). It's at the border that you get dinged. I got charged HST (15%) we pay in NS. And the brokerage fee was $50. Not sure why we are charged this. I received it in less than a week. The new cage has arrived and is set up. I assembled it myself. AGH! It is absolutely fabulous. Lots of room for many birds! The divider is a great feature. Two nice big doors. Lots of room for toys, perches, etc. inside. I still have to get some more of this stuff. My little cage was packed full and I was rotating stuff. I put it all in this cage, and it still looked bare. Sorry, the picture is a little dark. I highly recommend this cage!

Can someone let me know what budgies who are "courting" or are about to breed behave like? I don't know if Sylvester and Tweety are in the early stages or what? Tweety seems to be making nests in the food dishes. And Sylvester seems to be chasing her around a lot? They are still very young and are likely siblings so I'm hoping it is just play. Here is Tweety in the food dish.

I don't know if I'm cracking up or what but I swear that my new bird Tazzy has red in her eyes. They aren't all red, but seem to be red in the centre. Does that mean she carries the ino gene? Can they be partly red? Do they change over time? Or do I just need glasses?
