  1. Ann is right, I always thought that was interesting to say a bird doesn't have an iris ring when you have an iris , but the visiblity of it is key. Do you have an updated picture of your bird?
  2. Kaz, excellent points!!
  3. how lovely AV, sounds perfect!! Angel is such a beautiful bird.
  4. I saw your comment but then JB said something about horomonal imbalance about it but you know you are right if you breed these 2 Neville you get NOTHING
  5. Are there any members out there talented and have time to offer their assistance? If so you can put your name on this thread. Helping Hands for Signature Competition Liv is off the list now  Neat
  6. thank you for sharing
  7. The cere going blue is natural it means she is going out of breeding condition so that I would not worry about Jodie. I do believe after this clutch you need to make sure even if she lays that this is her last clutch until you can get her completely healthy again.
  8. All I can say is LUCKY GIRL!! Have fun fun . It will be so interesting meeting a whole other side of a family you never met. I am adopted so I can understand how exciting this is for you.
  9. Sounds all good, it is awesome when dentists have good bedside manners with kids. All will be okay. Good thing you took the bottle away that was a excellent decision.
  10. Opaline on hens is not hidden since it is sex-linked so if she doesn't have the distinctive V pattern that goes with the opaline gene then no the spots mean nothing. Nice set of birds they ar gorgous.

Oh gosh that is awesome, I so remember when Pretty would beat his around.
  12. I don't know how to get the best clearwings but that is a good question you can ask separately and also do some googling. Greywing and Clearwing are co-dominant so breeding those 2 together is not going to get you the clearwing.
  13. Your welcome, I am glad you found it interesting.
  14. Here is the write up I did on this when I did my research I have always thought they lay on the same allele but what I have learned today is very interesting. If anyone has any comments, additions or debates lets learn but I have learned that I have been giving wrong advice. This is what I found out... A Greywing can be split for dilute (this I never though was possible from what others have told me) A Clearwing can be split for dilute Greywing & Clearwing are co-dominant Greywing and Clearwing are dominant over dilute So example if you bred a Normal split to greywing and normal split to dilute budgie you would get 75% Normal 25% Greywing NO dilutes Normal can be split for dilute OR greywing OR clearwing A dilute can not be split at all because dilute is recessive to both of the genes above so a dilute budgie is dilute period no split. So for example: If you bred a Greywing split to Dilute x Clearwing split to Dilute this would be the offspring possible % 25% Full-body-color greywing (remember the greywing and the clearwing combined create this combination because greywing and clearwing are co-dominant which means they don't dominante each other) 25% Greywing 25% Clearwing 25% Dilute Pretty cool....
  15. Not truly, hens can also display a light blue cere too. Also some mutations of budgies keep the pink cere for life. We have information on this in the FAQ's . If you would like to post a picture that would be best and the instructions on posting a picture are in the FAQ under the Welcome Section. You can post the picture in the Forum called "what sex is my budgie"
  16. I would never take a bird clipped or unclipped outside, the bigger birds can have harness and leashes.
  17. All Clearwings unless the clearwing cock is split to dilute.
  18. She is not a Clearwing she is a Dilute, Clearwing is dominant over dilute for genetic purposes so you know . Yes Clearwings have the bright body and the clearwings, Dilutes have an 80% dilutation. 2 Different genes.

  20. Do you cover your budgie's cage? If not do so this will help a lot.
  21. In the FAQ under Mutations Section you will see them all.
  22. Ino can mask but if they are lacewing then you would see spangle because of the brown marking on the wings.
  23. I've not heard of a poorly marked clearflight pied but that seems to be the only explanationIf Banshee was split for Recessive Pied could that also contribute to the markings on the wings? Also Nev, do Recessive Pied babies have plum coloured eyes? I answered your question above, you asked it twice
  24. If one is a double factor YF1 and the other is a true white face, they yes all the chicks would be YF1 single factors. All the chicks don't have yellow faces? The only way you can get a Cinnamon Opaline Male from this pairing is if the dad is split to opaline and cinnamon. It is not very common to see visual males in the cinnamon opaline because of the sex-linking, more common in females. You have a lot of hidden genes there in the cock If his wing marking are brown then yes he is a cinnamon that would explain the plum eyes in the beginning. I agree with Neville, on the mutation.
  25. Here are the parents: Mum is a grey cinnamon opaline and Dad is a cobalt normal. If he is a male, then dad is also split to cinnamon that is the only way you can get a visual male cinnamon out of this clutch because mum give only 1 cinnamon gene to her male chicks (which make them split not visual unless they get one from dad too). BUT you know the chick looks kind of opaline too? Am I right on this? If so the dad would have to be split for opaline because it works just like the cinnamon gene. Could that be? If so what is the % that the dad is carrying both sex-linked genes too - could be? He can't be spangle, as Neville said because neither parents are spangle . Both parents are carrying the dilute gene, good to know and put in your records
