I am glad to hear you took her to the avian vet. It will work out some how we do for our pets. I remember having Maxx our cat in for 4 days and 600.00 later it is crazy but they give us so much back the little we give them is certainly worth it when you look how long they do live :ausb:

I agree with everyone else on healthy and not being mottled along with his mutation that Nerwen stated. Do you have baby pictures showing this bird with normal marking on all his wings? Here is a website showing mottled http://www.budgieplace.com/c_mottled.html Also Pretty being a recessive pied he would molt and new spots would reappear here and there and old ones gone I believe that is part of the pied gene in itself.
  5. WOW that is about what we get too gardner snakes that it is :
  6. that blue is like Pretty's a gorgeous skyblue they are all so adorable.
  7. very cool it is awesome!!!
  8. I do believe they will know and will start investigating once she is ready to breed for sure.

    thank you
  11. Thank you Chrissie
  12. if you do clipping I would do both because he will continue to try and fly after your other one. The flights come back pretty quick on their next couple molts.

I agree with all the good advise and do take her to an avian vet because any infection can get worse, into the blood stream and kill your precious budgie.
  14. There are 2 things that come to mind for a temporary solutions. 1. Clips the wings (not saying you should I know this is a personal thing) 2. Have them in a smaller room where they can come out but not fly as much until it is healed. Too much medicine isn't good so rest I think is the best if that means that both have less time out it is only temporary.
  15. here was the reasoning our avian gave short and simple seed is filled with carbs and yes that is needed in a high quanity if you are a wild budgie flying all the time and need the high energy of carbs but because our birds are not like that most (esp) pet ones sit around and don't fly like their wild relatives carbs are now too fattening and more protein needs to be emphasized. One thing that we must remember is that our budgies are that pets and though YES the ones wild are budgies too the diet need would differ because of the different activitiy levels, enviroment that they live in. That completely makes sense to me. Our pet budgies have evolved to something different then their wild cousins and as each species has different needs I believe so do the budgies. No different then a human that is highly active vs one that is not or even a dog that is younger vs a senior dog. The protein, carbs, nutrition is different. I hope that is making sense too
  16. In the end moderation is best there is so much debate just about human consumation with all the hormones in the foods I know budgie diet is probably even harder. What gets sticky is you see articles for all different avian vets one says this and it makes total sense and then another says this and it makes sense you know. You don't know what is right or best? My grandma's budgie lived to be 18y old in a small cage with seed and lettuce here and there. My Pretty had a huge cage, seed, veggies all the time and died even before he was 2. There is a lot I believe to be said about just pure genetics and the weakest die and the strong survivie no matter what you give them (I know that sounds nuts). I believe that is why breeders have a huge responsibility on their shoudlers for any type of animal dog, cat, bird etc... Great articles Daz and very interesting thank you for sharing.
  17. Oh I know but it is funny I always feel like defensive ya know (not toward you) but those who say oh his ears are cropped or they cropped him too short . I will have to post his feature they did it up in their March newsletter Thank you for the kind words about Pretty I am still amazed but talking about it and sharing it with a community that understands he was not "just" a bird really helps you know . He was such an amazing parakeet and I still can't believe he he gone to be honest :ausb:
  18. I know he would but what can you do, everyone says that too me and I didn't even do it (Laughing out loud) :ausb:, so then I have to explain that he was rescused. He came from a puppy mill where is was fathering puppies after puppy his story is sad but he is a very good boy with a little baggage but that is to be expected. They have him down to be around 5 or 6 they were not exactly sure in fact his foster mom named him he didn't even have a name , he weighs around 15lbs compared to Niketa who is 70lb seems like 5 (Laughing out loud) Isn't it amazing how it all came together Kaz, my angel in disguise :angel1:
  19. Oh my husky Niketa would be a no no she would not tolerate it at all , Cabela I am proud of him.
  20. Cabela is our new rescued mini pinscher that we adopted in January (right before Brandy's passing). He is a gem and so sweet. So everyone needs to make new friends for sure. Pretty loved the kitties and Merlin is getting to know the dog. Under STRICT supervision ONLY in for Cabela's safety of course Excuse me says Merlin what are you and WHY are you wearing this silly sweater? I refuse to believe I have a bird on my back that is just insane says Cabela (did you say lunch?)
