Thank you Una it was 2 weeks yesterday
  3. I don't have a tiel you can ask those that do but is it the poos or the bird? See if the bird smells I don't think that is good.
  4. Awe hugs, I saw the cute pics of Bunsen he did look under the weather but still so beautiful. Has your avian vet suggested x-rays or blood work, I know expensive but according to our a. vet that is the only way you can get to the bottom of the health issues with them. Since you can't feel their internal organs because of the keel bone. From everything I read green poos can be liver related and that can be controlled if not too bad by diet. Keep us updated and I hope Bunsen pulls through.

  7. Sometimes yes and sometimes no You can help decrease the hormones by covering them up earlier in the evening and keeping them covered a little later in the morning. Decreased light helps bring them out of wanting to breed. Ensure there is no running water like a fish tank near by. A lot of budgie do it but don't produce so just check out your cage for anything that could look like a good place to lay eggs. little better if you can get front and back complete shots they are so cute together.
  8. If you say he has green poos and he smells yes he needs to be checked out and you need to talk to your parents about your budgie and what is going on or someone who can assist you.

  10. I agree it looks very female but a better picture with no flash and clearer would help .
  11. To get a yellow series bird you need to breed with a yellow series since green (yellow) is dominant over the blue series (white birds). If you always use 2 blue (white based) birds you will always get blue (white based birds). So if you are looking for a yellow DEC you need to start in the green series line and work from there. Does that make sense? DEC is not a combo of a spangle but a clearflight pied and recessive pied genes http://www.budgieplace.com/c_dec.html A double factor spangle is a budgie with 2 Spangle genes not just 1 which results in the single factor spangle and you can see the spangle markings. If you are looking to get yellow DEC you will need to be using yellow (green based) birds that are either visually a clearflight or recessive pied or both or are carrying these genes. Both of clearflight and recessive pied are recessive genes so both birds need to be carrying to have a DEC. Here is truley a better explanation then I can give with charts http://www.budgieplace.com/gen_dec.html
  12. Here is a thread started by Daz in the show breeding section about improving spangle markings http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=12493

  14. No examinations are not free but are worth every cent for your feathered friend. All avian vets charge differently. Here is how to locate one USA/Canada: http://aav.org/vet-lookup/ http://www.birdsnways.com/articles/abvpvets.htm Australia: http://www.vetafarm.com.au/avian_vets.asp UK/Other: http://www.theparrotsocietyuk.org/avian-vets.shtml http://www.parrotpassionsuk.com/Advice/Uk_Avian_Vets.htm If those links don't prove to be helpful, you can also call the local dog/cat veterinary clinics to see if they can refer you to the nearest avian veterinarian. Only use an avian vet I lost Pretty 2 weeks ago and used a regular vet because that was all that was open and took Merlin for a check-up to ensure he was okay the next day to an avian vet and the difference in knowledge and examination was like night and day.
  15. Great facts and budgies are so interesting. Did he talk to you about working on coverting part of his diet over to pellets? This is what my avian vet talked to me and why. It will help with the weight reduction too. I do advise if he didn't before you start the weight reduction to buy an electronic gram scale that goes in increments up of 1 g and down 1 g it is important to ensure he doesn't loose too much weight or gain more and that at times is hard to tell unless you pick up him and examine his keel bone.
