  1. are you sure it is millet, it would worry me but them I am not an expert on plants .
  2. as mentioned above it could be an enlargement of the liver or another internal organ which is pressing on the nerve in the leg and the only way to find that out is x-ray because unlike us or dogs the keel bone that the birds have covers all the interal organs so they can't press to see if there is enlargement. Blood tests will also reveal inflammation of the liver and internal organs. Keep him warm like 75+ over the weekend and comfortable if you don't find that he is getting worse then he may be okay till Monday. Also keep an eye on his poos that is a sign of internal issues but it could be stress too since the foot hurts.
  3. Lenny or ie there is that Y again
  4. (Laughing out loud) it does get confusing just know that 2 yellowfaces can produce a white faced budgie odd as it may sound . I have always seen it the way you are describing it too Nerwen .

birds don't tend to drink a lot but he has to be drinking or he would die, so I am sure he is drinking when you are not looking
  6. Yes I agree Nerwen sounds like a good road to recovery. Your vet if right I know they said that with Pretty that because he was so weak they where not going to do any tests because he could die right there . Keep us updated about this little sweet girl
  7. they are beautiful, I really the shade of green it is so deep
  8. Every time they molt they get new feathers so it depends when the next molt is due. It could take a couple molts for them to completely come back in. Pretty's came in his first molt, Merlin it took a couple. It depends on the bird . So if he just molted and you clipped them I would say 4-6 months. They will start to get feathers in between the molt that will give them lift though.
  9. If your budgie is not improving within a 48 hour period I suggest actually both of you to take him back asap. Knowing how fast they can go. Pretty showed no signs was sick in the afternoon gone by evening that quick. If it is an enlarged liver there are meds and diet improvements that can help. Inflammation of the knee? Did he take x-rays or anything that is the key to finding out the underlying cause. What I noticed in my 2 visits 1 was avian one was not was that non-avian vets are guessing they simply just don't have the background. Our avian vet was very specific and even gave us a sheet that blood tests and x-rays are the true way to find out what is really wrong with a bird. So I suggest trying to get in with an avian vet no matter what. I wish they were open when Pretty got sick but they were not, Merlin was exammed by an avian vet the next day and the difference was incredible along with the knowledge.
  10. I posted a link to Harrison in the food and nutrition section I am sure you can click on retailers to find out what vets have them I also know you can buy directly from the company but that may be expensive because I am not sure if they are based anywhere in AU.

I agree, there are no outdoor aviaries here in Ohio - US that I am aware of we can barely find budgies of different mutations like they do in AU. Here it goes down to 0 F in the winter.

The 2 greens of the same sex or different sex? It sounds like you are saying they are of different sexes because you put them ogether. You should be able to tell them apart by their ceres on which one is male and which ones is female. (unless I am reading this wrong ) I would suggest keeping them apart when breeding. There is another post about how colony breeding can be very dangerous of the pairs and the babies too be.

awe excellent choice of names and he is a doll and sorry to hear about the losses of the other chicks
  15. Sounds like you are describing a DEC because they don't get an iris ring and the cere stays pink.

most of the times your birds look so calm and ready to pose not Plucka poor thing what a cutie.
  18. that is not good I would take him to the avian vet
  19. not sure only an avian vet can be sure if anything is wrong
  20. I see the pics she is cute, why did you decide to exchange. I am so bad I couldn't exchange once they come into my house I am hooked .
  21. Colony breeding can cause this, not having enough nesting boxes for each hen, having them too close to each other, not having enough males for each hen and vs versa and I am sure there is something I am missing. I am not a breeder but being on these boards for almost 2 years I have learned a lot about closed and colony breeding. Kaz is one that used to do colony breeding and she does closed breeding now because of these issues that do arise. I am sure the other breeders will jump on here to help you more but I suggest that you do close breeding or if you don't you may have to separate the ones causing trouble and do alternation to your breeding program because it won't get better. These birds can kill each other over nesting issues and the babies and eggs can be destroyed. How long have you breeding?
  22. can't predicate what budgie females think is a good spot (Laughing out loud) but work on daylight hours that is huge for breeding for any animal really. Longer days indicate spring, warm weather and babies :
