Stress?
just keep a good eye and have a number to call budgies can go down fast. If you could weigh him or check his keel bone to see if it is really protruding that would help you out too on his weight. The keel bone is the breast bone and when you feel it it should not be protruding out of the skin.

Coming Back Into The Cage
Pretty would do this to me all the time and with Merlin being easier to catch and calmer as long as I was able to get Merlin into the cage I could get Pretty into the cage. I did find it more difficult when they were both flighted though (Laughing out loud) because they can be stink pots and millet was my bribe all the time

Indentification Help Needed Again Please
gotcha see that is a much better explanation Kaz I did that with Pretty and I do it with Merlin. Again the internet communication is hard to really expression and emotion. You know them we don't but now you reexplained it it sounds very realistic and okay. Thank you.

Indentification Help Needed Again Please
I think it is the point that the budgie is being restrained by the owner and not doing it on it's own. The issue isn't the position of the bird but the restriction of being held and they physically turned upside. I didn't say they were shaken I just asked if this is a common practice because to a pet owners view it seems extreme to hold a bird upside so the blood flows to its head to see if it a male or female. I hate to see this post turn into a joke. I could see a budgie getting injured if not held properly or if someone did assume that they where to shake it. Oh well maybe am blowing it out of proportion .

Budgie Shakes/shivers
question you said he is indoor at night do you transfer him from a smaller cage to a bigger cage? Since he is new is he being quarentined from your other birds? This transferring can be making him nervous too.

G'day From 40degrees South
He is still nervous which is perfectly okay. What I found is that my budgies warmed up to me but if other people looked at them that didn't spend time (including family members who live in the house) they were flighter. He reminds me of my Merlin

Budgie Shakes/shivers
Keep an eye on him it is probably just the new place he is at, does he stretch too when you come up and see him? Another sign of nervous behavior too.

G'day From 40degrees South
Thinking out loud - 25days old is a bit young for a budgie to leave it's parents but if you wanted another one 8wks is more of the age I think you meant . They have to make sure they are eating on their own and 25 days is a bit young just so you know I the key is to not give up it took me 9 months to est a really great bond with Pretty and all those months was worth it he was a great boy. If you have any questions let us know

Class Pets?
I would think just as a responsible pet owner the teacher would be a responsible pet owner teacher where the cage would have a small lock on it. Those 2 scenes could have been possibly prevented. I remember we had a pet hamster as a class pet and it died of a draft. I personally don't think that is a good place for a budgie unless it is really used to people so if it was a rescue and proven to enjoy the noise and such. I would think all the chattering of the budgie would be distracting to the children though too.
