  1. Yes that is a wonderful moment, I remember the first time I saw on the ultrasound my son and daughter's heartbeat WOW it is a miracle.

Looks like a female recessive mauve pied I had a male recessive sky blue in my siggy which is Pretty he was a male. Male ceres are very smooth, very pink and usually have small nasal rings if none. Females are more pinkish white with nasal rings which looks like what Max is. She looks to be around 10 weeks but certainly under 3 months as she has not had her first molt because she still has the baby bar liness to the cere. They will start to disappear with her first molt at around 3-4 months. Example of Pretty's Cere Male Recessive Pied

millet should only be a treat and never just left in a cage (that is old thinking) because it is very fattening and budgies tend to eat that for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Doing that they will become nutrient deficient. Only give to them as a treat and from your hand is perfect. I only let Merlin have millet when he is sitting on my hand. For you it could be when he comes to the cage bars, if he does that readily you can start with your hand in the cage first and then slowly over the weeks work on stepping up in the cage .
  6. Excellent, thanks for explaining all this to me it really helps. I am such a why person , my husband loves that trait (NOT) (Laughing out loud) anyways. I am going to save this post for my information in the future.

I just created an article for the forum and put it in our FAQ's called Taming Your Budgie go ahead and click on it. I have used my own personal experience with my 2 budgies and how I tamed them. 1 was from a pet store and another from a private home. . I know you will find the answers you need and if you are patient it will work. Also welcome to our forums and always free free to read through the FAQ's about budgie nutrition, behavior and more. If you don't find your answer please ask ask away
  17. Do what you feel is best , if you stick to a routine your budgie will get used to it and they will tell you by their behavior what they need. I have never read a budgie to become wild because they didn't get enough sleep.

being he/she is so young a picture would be good because at this point their cere is probably pink either way it is the intensity of the pink that counts so a picture would be good. Taking that picture in natural light without a flash is best. As for the nibbling your budgie nibbles say no gently and move your hand away or give it something else to nibble. A cute thing now could turn into a bad habit over time. So I would deter this if you don't like it. You mentioned your other budgie Harry died. I am so sorry :hap:, I lost Pretty almost 3 months ago and he wasn't even 2 years old so I understand how horrible it is. He died in my hands too. If you don't mind we can help give you tips and such if you can give us some description on what exactly happened. How old was Harry? What were the symptoms Harry had or where there none? What do you feed your budgies? Do you supplement with veggies, pellets, fruits etc...or only seed based food? Do you give your budgies vitamins? Well that is a start with the questions but the more we know the more we can assist you. We also have a fanastic FAQ section with so many questions and answers about taming, budgie behavior, breeding and more you can check it out here BBC FAQ's
  20. Kaz Wonderful pictures, I like the kissy one personally myself :hap: Such a rainbow of colors, they look healthy and happy!
  21. One thing to add is this a 1st time clutch for both the hen and cock. I know you have having hen trouble but I have always heard to pair and older hen that has had a clutch with a younger cock. Not that you could do that this time around but food for thought. This is why people will buy birds that have been proven breeders & good parents when they setting up breeding stock. As Kaz said a lot of people believe it is very simple because budgies can breed easily but breeding easily doesn't always mean they will be good parents. Listen to Kaz though she knows what she is talking :hap:
  22. That is excellent, I know one thing if I ever decided to breed I would be so filled with knowledge from these boards ...thank you for sharing.
  23. oh I like that idea Kaz therefore you don't have to touch them
  24. very interesting Norm, I love this stuff. Just for conversation of this topic if you don't mind because I love to learn. How many clutches has he had so far? I have read that recessive or sex-linked genes can sometimes stay hidden for several clutches and then out they come? Lacewing enthusiasts have disagreed with this theory believing that the Lacewing is a mutation in its own right. (is this the part you are saying could be true or agreeing with) that the Lacewing is in fact a Cinnamon Ino (this is the part I have learned to believe). Let me know Oh and I agree they are a beautiful variety!!
  25. yes, when Merlin is covered and I come in the computer room he will start chirping especially if I am talking You can put a sheet over the cage and then a heavier dark blanket to keep the light out too. I say a sheet first so their nails don't get stuck in the blanket if they go on the side of the cage.
