Your budgies are beautiful . Boab look like he is at least over a year old and he looks like he rules the house . Your new one Bloo looks like the blue is coming into the cere and if that is the case and it it deepens it will be a male, at first glance it looks female but I am unsure. Now you said you got Bloo just last week and I hate to damper your excitment but you should separate them and start a 30 day quarantine to ensure Bloo is healthy and keep Boab safe from any illness that Bloo could have. Budgies do mask their illness and though they look healthy could be carrying something. Avian vets actually recomment 90 days. Here is information on quarantine and the importance. First no matter how friendly your kitty is (and I have 3) never have your birds out with him/her because natural instinct can set in ANYTIME. That is my thoughts. I love MY cats but I don't expect them not to respond to fluttering of bird wings. Here is a great article from our FAQ section Taming Your Budgie I personally made it up and used my own personal experience with my 2 budgies. I can tell you training 2 is harder then 1 and you may need to separate them for period of tame for taming if you find you are getting no where. I spent alot of time with Merlin before I introduced him to Pretty but I am assuming you purchased these 2 budgies together. You can tame them together with the methods described or separate your choice. Either way you need patience and food works miracles as a treat to gain their trust.

Can you post another pics of him front and back without the cage bars? That would help. Kaz knows what she is talking about so if she can see a better picture that would help her out too :ausb:
  9. Is this your first time breeding? You sound unsure if they have paired up or not? This is something you should know :ausb:. Have you seen them mate? Are you breeding them all in the same cage? If so what size cage? How many nesting boxes? Separating the breeding pairs may be something you really should do so you don't have issues with fights etc... Asking questions so we can help you more with what you are wanting to know?

My Budgie Love Me - Great Article to click on from BBC FAQ's If he is this young his feathers may yes still be coming in. Just make sure that he is adding more feathers and not loosing too many at this age if he really is 8-9 wks then it is too early for a molt and it could be a sign of sickness. When he has his first molt at 3-4 months his feathers on his head will turn white and a couple more moults they will only be seen more on the middle part back of the head. I have this for my birds it is a personal decision. They are called preening toys and I personally never had issues. There are always "freak" accidents that can occur though. Great article about diet yes you should be intro pellets but they should only be 30% of his diet or less. Harrison at the vets is good or Nutraphase. Use pellets without additive colors it is not necessary or good for them. Read this about Budgie's Diet and this about converting to pellets Pellet Diet these articles are from our FAQ section under Budgie Diets. Always ask that is what we are here for :ausb:
  11. BBC FAQ Studding Birds in here it tell about how top breeders will still quarantine :ausb:. So I am glad you are following the advice and doing it for the safety of your birds and hers.

Welcome to our forums The first bird look like a sky blue recessive pied and looks male, his cere will stay that pretty pink color :ausb:. But I do reserve to change to double factor pied because he hardly has any wings marking but he looks recessive right now. Your other looks like a normal green and is a male. How to Sex my Budgie BBC FAQ's Click here to read more about telling the difference
  13. I agree with Kaz there is no pied that I see pretty bird (make sure you quarantine :ausb:

Welcome aboard No vet is worse then a vet so you may want to get her checked out did you check our Avian Vet Look-up in the FAQ's you may be surprised there may be someone by you. Kaz made a good point about her nutrition and I advised you to read those articles. Merlin gets a little bit of everything :hap:, including pellets. We would love to see pics of her in the Budgie Pics if you like to post a picture of her.
  15. good post to read as I see new people are getting budgies :hap:

Hi Sue, glad to see you your welcome on the boards :hap: My sister is Korean she was adopted at the age of 10y and was also born in Seoul. She now is married with a 1 yr old , time flies!!!
  19. Believe it Kaz will do anything for her babies
  20. In all reality everyone views pets different and some people don't even take their dogs or cats to get vaccinated (even if it is the law) we can preach and tell you all the reason WHYS but you yourself need to feel the need or the importance that this is a living creature that is depending on you to help it. Changing your mom's mind isn't the answer but the answer is exactly what Kaz said save up. Make it important to you. My aunt recently had to put her dog to sleep and she couldn't make the decision her boyfriend said to her when has he (the dog ever let you down) was he always there for you? Of course you know the answer to that and the same is with your pet budgie. It is all how you view it so if you feel the importance then as Kaz said start saving but you never know when your bird or any pet that you may acquire will need care . (hope you didn't take it wrong just my thoughts on your question EXCELLENT BBC ARTICLE on WHY everyone needs to know who their avian vet is.
  21. Kaz is right. I have a friend that had 3 very sick budgies. 1 passed away but with good care and the warmth of the hospital cage amazingly the other 2 pulled through. When Pretty was sick they said to keep the room at above 75 F that is impossible in my house only with a hospital cage could that care be given. I think you need it even more if you are breeding because you never know when your babies could need extra warmth because the hen decides not to care for them. Warmth is extremely important. As a breeder I would make that first on my list to have one and as a pet owner too.

if you want you can always get an avian vet good health check-up I did that with Merlin after Pretty died because I was scared he had what Pretty died from. They did a gram stain, a fecal test and a physical exam. I am sure Billy is healthy though and he is a doll.
  23. Elly replied to thk's topic in New to BBC
Some males, such as albinos, lutinos, fallows, and some recessive pieds do not develop a blue cere, instead it remains the pinkish/purple colour they had as a juvenile bird BUT the females will remain like normal females whitish blue or whitish tan and then in breeding condition a dark tan.

  25. Just a question regarding this part It’s not so true with the sex linked ones, as hens can’t carry them I thought hens can carry them but it is visual because they only have 1 x because they can give it to their boy and then in turn they are now split for that sex-linked gene. Were we thinking on the same terms but saying it in different way?
