  1. Congratulations Kaz they are all very beautiful I remember a time when you had too much blue and needed more green
  2. I would say she is a lacewing and she could in fact be carrying the opaline gene too so she could be an opaline lacewing which could be way her markings look different to you. Remember ino can hide opaline but since she has the cinnamon markings she has something to see visually now to throw off the opaline. This is my opinion
  3. glad it worked Kaz great solution plus you knew if they didn't do something in a certain amount of time you would have jumped it so I am sure in all reality there was never a risk.
  4. 50% normals 50% dominant pieds All her boys will be split to opaline All girls will be normals unless the dad is carrying the opaline gene If she is a double factor grey you will have 100% green greys If she is a single factor grey you will have 50% green greys 50% greens Then there are of course surprises in the nest from recessive genes that both carry or any sex-linked genes that the father is carrying and will pass on to his hens. Pretty birds Karen
  5. in the picture I see he is still a wee baby not even first molt I assume that was before. As Nerwen and Kaz said it can take up to 12 months to get an iris ring and some come in very faint.
  6. thank you for the kind words
  7. Your right Bea The only way to thave visual opaline females is for the dad to carry the opaline gene and the only way to get visual opaline males is if the males gets 2 opaline genes from both parents since it is sex-linked and the males carries 2 xx and both need to be opaline to be visual, the female only carries 1 x and so that is why she only needs one opaline gene. I knew you knew this I just went into more details for others on the forum.
  8. hath not sure if you are asking me or the original poster it went from 40 to 75 back down to like 40 (f) like in 3 days. it was also very damp where you feel cold but it is not cold if that makes sense. I know your birds if I remember hath played in the snow so I think believe a constant tempature is not the issue but the up and downs. In all reality it is a theory who know he most likey was sick before that (which he probably was and I didn't know ) and the weather change just didn't help the issue at all. He went through a pretty nasty molt the month before, his immune system was just not up to par. Unlike Merlin who has been fine this experience has given me in sight about how I feel from pet to exhibition budgies (which Merlin is 1/2)
  9. What can get a bird sick and a quick decrease in warm or cold as Booms said if it is warm day and there is a warm draft that is okay but if it was cold then all of a sudden it was very warm I would wait until the house is warm inside and keep the bird out of the draft. I believe this is why Pretty 1 of the reasons why he died so suddenly. It was very cool then all of a sudden it became warm and I opened the windows on the nice day and then the tempature went down again. Their respiratory tracts are so senstive and when he was examed he was diagnosed with a respiratory issue the day of his passing. Can I prove it no but in humans we talk about getting chilled or the weather going up and down and kids getting sick so this is where my theory comes from.
  10. incredible the similarity Kaz
  11. if the bird doesn't have red eyes Ellulah I believe that is a good conclusion to the mutation, I agree. I don't see any spangling either personally .
  12. sunlight does provide Vitamin D. I have read that they should be in unfiltered sunlight daily (of course not directly under the hot sun) at least 15 mins (estiimated) a day and those like us who have colder climates to use the UV lighting.
  13. Elly replied to **KAZ**'s topic in Budgie Pictures
Big Vinnie reminds me of Merlin just larger. Glad Mammoth is doing well she is gorgeous.
  14. ahhh okay I see what you Macka so- I think the confusion is that we are not thinking on the same terms. It is not a recessive pied you are saying it is a normal split to recessive pied correct . A recessive pied is my Pretty in my signature. I am saying it is a dominant pied (maybe a normal that is split to recessive pied). How could you deciever the difference between a normal with a spot split to recessive vs a true dominant pied? I have a dominant pied with a head spot that is Merlin my blue . So much confusing huh .
  15. Kaz gave you great advice. ((hugs)) again on the situation I would also keep an eye on them because if Chip even though they have been passed by the vet you just never know what could pop up but I am very glad they have been cleared.
  16. it is a gorgeous cage, what are the dimension on it? It may seem taller then it really is and it looks quite wide. Also make sure the space bars are only a 1/2 inch. :budgiedance:
  17. Are you saying me? I never said that anywhere that normals were split for dominant pied only recessive :budgiedance: because that is impossible since dominant pied is dominant
  18. it was a good question you are okay :budgiedance:
  19. that bottom picture is excellent so cute
  20. Kaz he is gorgeous he is #1 in my BOOK!! Steel you are awesome.
  21. what color are her eyes? Her yellow is way to strong to be a dilute. She looks to be a lacewing if her eyes are red
  22. thank you Aly
  23. Prince is a male I believe I just reconfirmed with Neat (not that makes a difference). I remember Kaz saying that hers at the spot indicating possible recessive pied. The thing is even if you get all 100% normals it still doesn't disprove that the bird with the spot is not a dominant pied it is just %'s. So you would have to breed the bird again to a normal (not a dominant pied) to see if you would get any dominant pied to ensure it is not a dominant pied and I would say at least 3 clutches and of course if you can find a normal split to recessive pied to see if they produce any recessive pied babies together. The only way there would be recessives though is that if the albino hen was carrying the gene too. So even if Prince is split for recessive pied there may be no recessive pied babies unless the abino is split for recessive pied too. Thank you for the article I love learning - does that all make sense above I feel confused now.
  24. a normal bird is your regular blue budgie and depending if they have no dark factor, 1 dark factor or 2 dark factors will determine the color of the blue (sky, cobalt or mauve). Since the hen's color is erased we are not sure how many dark factors she carries. Did we determine that Prince was a violet like Merlin or a cobalt because that changes the outcomes too.
