  1. Going with a Yellow face Type 2 Clearwing (he could have other genes that are being masked by the clearwing mutation)
  2. First 2 correct the last one yep I believe he looks skyblue unless the flash washed him out Congrats Too early in the morning for me to think of names (Laughing out loud) but I will come back
  3. Normal means a normal color like either all blue or all green bird where there is no mutations in involved as for size, you will have to wait for Daz as for color, from what I understand greens are great to use especially to increase the size of the bird but again wait and see with others say.
  4. Could it be that, I was thinking about that variation and thought maybe?
  5. I see what you mean now, genetic is so much fun but confusing at time.
  6. But they are not supposed to have iris rings Kaz or can they? I think it will be interesting to see what the babies outcomes are because genetics is having some fun fooling us here.
  7. I haven't have a clue but what a gorgeous boy
  8. I am agreeing with Pie on this one, the flash usually picks up the plum in there BUT guess what you will know for sure when they bred and you see what type of babies you have
  9. pie I really PHD in budgies would really help me out there seriously I didn't hear anyone here have any experiences and now that they have their own experiences I believe it. So you think Merlin is dominant or split to recessive
  10. The hen is pied she is a clearflight pied so you are for certian you see iris rings or not really sure? I know you said you say them but are you positive. I am going that he is a DEC.
  11. clearfight is a form of a dominant pied macka when I looked at that picture I was thinking the same thing that was an ino but being that I am not thinking quite straight I didn't mention it. Does your bird have red eyes? it shows the pink cere which is indicating a ino vs a DF spangle which would have a blue cere and iris rings. Unless it has black eyes with no iris ring then it would be a Dark Eyed Clear.
  12. here is an article I found about dominant pieds too for your information Dominant Pied Article Click Here Merlin's brother and sister also had the spot but not as large as Merlin's that is what attracted me to him
  13. Original Pieds were Dutch Prior to 1958 the Dominant Pied in the UK was the Dutch, but it always seemed to be difficult to actually improve the Pieds produced, especially in size, although for some unknown reason this did not apply to the same degree with the non-Pieds. When the Australian "banded" Pied arrived it was quickly realized that this factor was capable of being improved by selective breeding. Not surprisingly, this advantage led to increased Australian Pieds, to the detriment of the earlier Dutch form. So much so, that the numbers of Dutch Pieds declined to the point that it is doubtful if any true examples exist in the UK today. One additional form of Pied that was around at the time was the Continental Clearflight. More of the Clearflight later, as this type still exists. The Dutch Pied had the head spot or patch and, immediateiy below the mask, had a small clear area of yellow or white similar to Recessive Pieds. The rest of the body had variegated patches of clear colour on a normal body ground colour. The wings were approximately 50% dark, 50% ground colour (white or yellow). The dark markings were usually polka-dotted or grizzled. Flight feathers were a mixture of clear and dark, and the long tail feathers could be the same. An attractive and colourful Budgerigar, it is a pity if the Dutch Pied truly has gone. Click here for FULL Article on Pieds

I would say the best way to have them play with a paper or toilet paper roll is to cut it down the side so it can not hold them inside the tube. That may have been mentioned but adding again. Therefore they can have the fun of tunneling if they like but not getting stuck at all.
  15. Can you post a picture of the parents of the front and back of them in the mutations and then as for the outcomes that would be better. Per the picture she Lucky doesn't look like a clearbody in the siggy so a better pics would help alot. Congrats.
  16. to budgieland but the cat said no no that is __________________________

thank you for sharing your flock , they are all gorgeous with each having their own personality shining through.
  19. You know you may want to PM Una I am not sure if she will respond but she lost a lot of her birds or you can do a search and find the post where she her aviary. This may help you with what you are going through. I know she went throug extensive description of what happened and what she did etc... ((hugs))
  20. Thanks you for the information Kaz it is the first time I saw it. As for not being both they can be both as Daz noted dominant carrying the recessive pied gene. So you can bred 2 dominant pieds and get a recessive pied. Here is a picture of Merlin's spot on the back of his head

Nerwen hit it on the nail it really depends on the type of breed (but even then you can't ever be sure) and if they are mixed breed you have no clue what they possive in the terms of behavior until you have them for awhile. My min pin Cabela wouldn't hurt Merlin but Niketa would swallow him whole she is a husky this is her nature. My best advice is a bird should be locked up when the dog is around and vs versa. Bea is the only member on this board that I know lets her birds out SUPERVISED ONLY with her jack russell terrier Miggs. She watchs Miggs when he has had enough and then puts him or the birds away.
  22. My Merlin is an example of a Dominant Pied he has a big white head spot, I have only just recently heard about the small white spot on the back of the head indicating split to recessive. I know this is true in tiels but don't have any concrete evidence about budgies quite yet.
  23. Do you add an vitamins to his food or water?
