  1. Then this is what I would do. If they don't like to be spritz with water this could be a tool if you don't plan on training them to like a spirtz. When you put them back in and the bickering starts spritz with a quick shot of water it will stop the behavior if it starts again do it again. I bet in a week the issues will stop because they won't want to be spritz. If it was my 2 birds I would do it because you don't want this to happen all the time. It doesn't hurt them and gives them a simple correction of hey Harley this isn't nice to do to Blue.

I see the tinch of blue on Oz, I always wonder if he was a YF or a green I couldn't remember when you first got him . Your boys are both gorgeous.
  3. I agree you bird needs a vet ASAP we also have an Avian Vet Look-Up in our FAQ section under Health section. You can also call them and get estimates. Most of them will do a poo exam, swap of the throat, weigh them and a general exam that I what I received. Find out exactly what they will do...some may recommend x-rays to get a better look. Great advice Dave and Kaz, I agree with them completely.

that is the way all the ultrasounds looks (Laughing out loud) even the 3D ones I have see...silly mom...(they can say the darnest things) he/she is going to be beautiful!
  5. they are beautiful I love the names.
  6. they are very pretty... congrats.
  7. I agree with Kaz whole heartly and I feel he should go to an avian vet now for a check-up he really doesn't look healthy and he seems very young to be away from his parents. Please keep him quarantined at least for 30 days and maybe longer until he is completely healthy. You have a big heart...I tend to do the same thing.
  8. I have reviewed your post and your pictures of your babies are so so cute especially the nesting box babies and this last one you posted The spot on the back of the head "usually" means they are a dominant pied (my Merlin is a dominant pied in my siggy) he has a big spot on the back of the head. There is now talk and I know Kaz has confirmed that a very small spot could mean that the the bird is split to recessive pied instead of being a dominant pied. Being that both the birds have it I would say it would indicate a dominant pied but let us see what others say. .
  9. recessive pied and dominant pied are 2 different genes on a different allele so example a dominant pied could be carrying the recessive pied gene and produce recessive pieds when paired with either another recessive pied or a bird that is split for recessive pied too. If the bird has an iris ring in one eye it would be considered a dominant pied. Recessive pieds eyes are actually black plum like and when you take a picture at a certain angle you can sometimes bring out the plum in the eye. I hope that helps .
  10. here is a suggestion by Kaz to resize
  11. I would close the door on the cage so it forces him to stay out of his cage during cage time out. I do that with Merlin sometimes because he will go right back in. I have stuff on top of his cage and food too this helps him feel that out is safe too. Now he just flies to me instead but I do keep the cage door shut. I would also see if putting in Blue in the cage first and then letting Harley back in will control the behavior too. It is hard to figure them out but you just have work with different ideas. Also make sure you are changing toys around, make sure there are no mirrors or toys that Harley feels possesive over and needs to protect. So when Blue comes back in Harley goes after him because he is protecting something his toy, cage, perch etc...

Oz is such a handsome budgie I love his green coloring and how it all pies throughout his chest . Blinks....well you are simply GORGEOUS.
  14. Birds do not have a good sense of smell so it has nothing to do with the smelling of you. That is why wildlife will say if you know for a fact the baby has fallen out of the nest that picking it up with gloves and putting it back in the nest will be okay. You know maybe someone can come along and explain it better. I remember when I would talk to Merlin, Pretty would get jealous and do something similar but Pretty was my tamer one at that time and it is your non-tame one that is doing it. Maybe let them both out together and spend time with Blue and then put them in together would help the situation. Instead of just taking 1 out and leaving the other one.
  15. Very nice, congrats on all your hard work
  16. welcome you and your flock to our forum cute pics you should enter a 1 of them in the Budgie of the Month for December...this is located right under the Budgie Pictures as a subform .

I totally see it because I had 2 of my own isn't it just amazing. My boy they had to get him from behind to see the gender because the legs where crossed but my daughter she was all out there . So excited for you!!
  18. well I have to say I saw a key element you typed is "mirror" which have can cause a lot of frustration in budgies or any type of bird. Mirrors and having one in their cage can be debated but here is my theory on them. Many people will say too have one but just as many say not too and this is why and I agree with them. Budgies are flock animals and are very social they love to be with their own kind or you as their human. We think it is cute when they see their reflection and they bang or feed the pretend budgie but in all reality it is very frustrating to the bird. Can you imagine talking to someone and they don't respond back to you so you get frustrated and ack ack at the mirror, bang it around and hope that they will respond back. Take the mirror out and if you want only give to him when he is out of his cage or not at all. Any toy that is reflective such as a bell is just as bad because they can see their reflection. His biting is hormonal and he is showing signs of being simply frustrated. Rearrange his cage around 2x a month, switch his toys, take out bells and mirrors and only give as treats or if you can reintroduce in 2 weeks but when you notice the bad behavior just take it out and keep it out. A lone budgie is a very happy budgie with his human when they spend the time as you indicated you do so if you should get another budgie is not the question (not that you asked but many do). Merlin is a lone budgie and he is very happy but he does get hormonal and bite as yours does. When he bites don't' react and say OWHHH and make a big deal what I do is remove him from my hand where he wants to be and he gets the point that he can't be on my hand if he is biting. Is your budgie biting the hand when you are close to the object that he loves such as his mirror if so he is protecting his "so called mate". I believe you will find that once you change the cage around, taking out the mirrors, make sure he has at least 10-12 hours of darkness you will find a more lovable budgie and the one you used to know. Let us know what happens if you make the changes. Just a note budgies usually only eat heavily in the morning and in the evening around dusk so if he hasn't eaten that is very normal for their feeding pattern in the wild and as a pet. Do you have any millet sprays or any other snacks in this cage all the time that he could be eating instead of his food? If so those need to be removed because they should only be given 1x a week so your budgie doesn't get over weight.
  19. don't worry I did the same thing and Nerwen correct me I felt silly when it was explained I was like DUH (Laughing out loud)
  20. Daley how are things going?
  21. Most vets don't know much about birds you best bet would be to find an avian vet around you even if your nearest avian vet is an hour way it is worth the drive for peace of mind. Avian Vet Locator (from BBC FAQS), click on the link to find your nearest avian vet. Now getting back to nutrition lettuce is a no no for birds it is way to harsh on their stomachs it is even said that rabbits known to love lettuce should not be giving it. The fancier lettuce like romaine is okay but Iceberg has no nutritional value and is the worsest. I would take him off all his veggies that you are giving him and do a day with just see and see if he goes back. If he does then he is preferring the veggies over the seed which is okay but only if they are nutritional veggies. Click Here on Good Nutritional Diet for Budgies and you will see what is good and what is harmful. If you find that there is no improvement and he still doesn't eat then I would schedule the avian vet appointment. You can see if he is eating seeds buy lightly blowing on the seed and the empty shells will go flying off. Budgies hull their seed which means they remove the outer covering and eat the inside. Keep him warm at least 80F until you see his behavior improving. Moulting is a stressful time for a budgies so optimal nutrition during this time is important, a cuttlebone, Vitamin A, calcium. One of the BEST foods you can give is brocolli and carrots for Vitamin A which keeps the respiratory lining healthy in their lungs which can be affected by changes in the envirmoment, tephlon, fumes etc... I would wait to do any food changes until he is back to feeling his old self. Adding: can you explain the sleeping pattern again? Is this during the day because budgies are known to take naps and then wake up with energy. If this is during the night then are you covering him. Also make sure during this time he is getting 10-12 hours of darkness because if he is going through a hormonal stage then this will curb it. I am not sure your weather but we are going into winter right now but when we go into the spring time birds tend to get ornery and hormonal because this is the time in nature they would start to mate and start a family. Not that you need to provide this but so you can understand the behavior and how to control it .
  22. That is debatable Zebra because true green bird will always have a yellow face there is no such thing as a white faced green. Breeders have been doing programs to prove that the yellow based (green)bird can carry the yellow face gene. So at this point no because the face is already yellow . If the yellow turns the blue into green the bird is a white based (blue) based bird not a green. Make sense? So the bird is a YF blue (not green in the bird above). Gorgeous BIRDS, I especially love the spangle marking they are so defined and dark.
  23. Your birds are too young to breed especially the one with the very pink cere. Keep out the nesting box and waiting until they are old enough.
