  1. If you are unsure how to remove the ring it is best to take it to an avian vet or breeder in your area that can remove the ring. Their legs are so fragile.
  2. Here are our FAQ on breeding I believe you will find the answers and more Link to Our Breeding FAQ

I would use pellets specifically made for budgies you may find that the protein content in the larger pellets are higher which would not be good for your budgies kidney's, I personally would not feed them unless I did a comparison on the % of protein, fat etc...on a budgie formulated pellet.

the good news is that he will recover just keep an eye on him such a behavior changes that could indicate infection or fever keep us updated
  5. Call where you purchased her and find out what they fed your budgie such as greens that could make her poo this color. I agree it probably is stress the water part just trying to figure out the coloration reason. As long as it is not a bright bright green everything is probably okay. If you find she still has water poos in 3 days and/or there is a behavioral change such as being fluffied up, can't perch, water eyes, sneezing then I would get her to an avian vet or take her back to where you purchased her if they have a guarantee.
  6. your welcome you may want to also remove the mirror too just for the week to see if that helps with the behavior seeing this other budgie look a like can also stimulate him to be more flirty then usual. It is controversial if a mirror should be kept in a birds cage but more and more I read evidence on why mirrors and reflective objects can cause unwanted behavior such as what you are experiencing, possessiveness over the mirror or certain objects, frustrating with banging on the mirror to get the other bird to respond along with feeding the mirror all the time and more... So it may be something you want to consider along with rearranging his toys, perches etc..in his cage 2x a month. It makes it interesting and keeps him busy vs flirting all the time. . I also have a sole budgie so these are steps that I do to ensure Merlin is stimulated in different ways.

when painting I would try and pick something that is the least non harmful for the enviroment and pets...I would think a week or 2 will work well. Budgies lungs are so delicate and the lining can be damaged and cause respiratory failure. So keeping the house ventilated and the budgies in a closed room during this process is your best bet. Kaz's advice and information is right on target.
  8. I am surprised they can have a budgie in the classroom I would think it would be so distracting with their singing and the noise they make during the day .
  9. Welcome to the forums, we look forward to pictures
  10. If you are positive it is regurgitation vs vomiting you can control some of this behavior by increasing the nighttime hours by covering your bird up an hour early and keeping him covered an hour later. Make sure there is no running water near by such as a fish tank, sink etc... Different things in their enviroment will simulate a "breeding" condition and they will start get to all "flirty" to be kind with everything in sight. By doing this for a couple weeks you will see a change in behavior. Keep us updated.

I can't see your picture unless I download that program which I don't want to do. I am not sure if anyone else will have the same problem. You can always up-load free to www.photobucket.com and no one has to do any extra downloading of a program.
  12. very sorry to hear about this loss Kaz you are in my thoughts.
  13. I agree with Kaz, first thing in the morning is best and then they have the day to have fun and settle. Birds become calmer when it becomes dark because they can't see that well in the dark so they need to use their sense of hearing more. I personally let Merlin out during the morning and afternoon and he is in the cage during the evening.
  14. There are different types of calls that budgies' do.. There is the over and over chirp which is calling and should be ignored. Then there is the acking acking where they are banging around again to be ignored. The more you pay attention to them during these periods the worse it will get because yes they want your attention. Remember in a flock budgies are always together. As a sole budgie they have to learn it is okay to be alone and it is okay to be with you too at certain times. Pretty used to do this a lot as a sole budgie so if he got to a point where it was too much I would cover him up until he calmed down and then uncovered him and walked away then I would come back and give the attention. Always give attention when they are quiet .
  15. When you get a 2nd budgie you will need to quarantine this budgie for 30 days before you put them together as to ensure your new one is healthy and doesn't pass any illness on to your existing budgie. Honestly almost a year later I am very happy with having just Merlin .
  16. One thing you need to think about before you start breeding is what will you do with the babies? Will you keep them? Find them "good homes" etc...there is such an overpopulations of pets that the end results of breeding needs to be thought about which are the "babies" that are produced .
  17. "Listen here, how many times do I have to tell you I am the boss"
  18. Kaz I am so sorry sweetie I remember when you got Barnsie this year he is such a gorgeous boy. Your babies are looking wonderful.

  20. The same thing happened to me Pretty died suddenly and Merlin was left all alone. I debated about getting a 2nd budgie but decided to work with Merlin on bonding. The first 2 weeks was rough because he called for Pretty all the time and then we had a period where he was just very very quiet. I kept an eye on his eating habits, behavior and such and now it has been 9 months later and Merlin is still a sole budgie and is doing great. He has done well and he become very bonded to me now. If I ever get a 2nd budgie it will be one that is in need or I find needs a home and I am ready. Merlin is a character he talks, comes to me all the time and such... I think what you will find is your budgie will settle down and end up bonding to you greatly.
  21. the only thing I worry about with spoons is the reflection just like a mirror so watch out for any type of protective behavior where they think they have to protect the budgie or tiel in the spoon . Very clever idea.
  22. they look great Bea and their colors are so vibrant :fear
  23. I am going with Kaz on this one if you had a picture with the baby just standing without your hands that would be great. To me he looks yellowface violet dilute
  24. Getting a second budgie is a great decision if you do it for the right reasons of course. You need to ensure you have a big enough cage for 2 budgies, 2 budgies make more noise then 1 (will you be able to handle the non stop chattering), 2 budgies may not get along and if that is the cage you may have to cage them separately (many times this is not the case if introduced properly), 2 birds are messer by far in and out of the cage, will you be completely okay with the fact that you don't have 1 tame bird and you may not have 2 tame birds (2 are much harder to tame). A thought though is to get a another young male/female work with it during the 30 day quarantine on taming. There are so many what if's and but's... I say get the same sexed birds if you are not planning to breed now or in the near future it will ensure you are not having unwanted babies. Most budgies don't breed without a nesting box but some do and why take the chance at all . That is why I ended up with 2 males. A 2nd budgie is fun, great companionship for her yes but you have to be ready to commit to it. I would watch the mirrors she may become even more possive and strike out at you when you put your hand in the cage as to protect her newest "mate" or "flock" member. She doesn't realize it is a fake budgie so though mirrors are like the bandage covering the situation it is not always the best decision as you may find more behavioral problems that you didn't expect. It is everyone's different choice though
  25. I agree with Norm, also knowing the parents and what the possibilites are really helps
