  1. The first 7 weeks, I am going to tell you they are all pretty placid if they are young budgies (some are the expection) but he was probably scared out of his mind and didn't have the confidence to bit back. I remember when I got Merlin he would let me stroke him and do anything him until he got the confidence to let me know was too scared to move. I wrote up an article in the FAQ section about Taming Your Budgie, I wrote about how I tamed my pet store budgie Pretty who was a nut to a calmer Merlin who is still with me today. I suggest reading and using some of the techinques. To bond with a bird (or any animal), you have to win it trust and respect once you have that you have their heart. Right now he is viewing your hand as a predator and if you put a glove on it will now be a bigger and scarier predator. I would go back to the basics and reintroduce your hand without a glove if he bites at it do not react after he has his fit then move your hand away. Right now he is creating a boundary and his space you need create trust that your hand is not going to hurt him. Start talking to him through the cage bars they love faces, treat good behavior that you want with millet and ignore the bad.

How did they get out Anna? I hope they are found soon. Have your sister also post on craigslist in her area under the lost and founds, check any bird rescues frequently for descriptions of these birds, along the different vets in her area, also if you do a google for lost pet ads you will find quite a few places where you can post this for free too.
  10. If you want more violets you are best to pair with another violet bird because gray is a stronger added factor over the violet factor so you will have gray birds that can carry the violet factor (and that is not always visual). A gray bird is essentially a white based (blue) it has the added gray factor which makes the bird gray instead of blue. I hope that makes sense and if I am wrong I know I will be correct by others who know genetics too . When I work out the genetics on paper these are just % (this is both are single factor grey and violet) 25% change of Grey Violets (which the bird is darker gray carrying the violet factor) 25% Normal Grey 25% Normal Violet 25% normal Blue not knowing how many dark factors either bird is carrying the blues and grays can vary in coloration If they are double factor grey as indicated above they will all be Gray and 50% will carry the violet gene OR if the Violet is a double factor they will all carry the Violet gene. I just depends but they will all be grey with different shades depending on the added factor and any dark factors that the birds can carry.
  11. If you would like to resize your pictures to 450x450 then they can be put up as images vs links . As for the babies I am not good with the young'n so I know someone with more experience will come along. As for the dad is violet(real), mom is the grey spangle, it really depends on if they are carrying a single factor or a double factor violet and grey gene. Grey is an added color and a stronger factor then the Violet gene so saying that you may have all grey babies it just depends if the grey bird is a double or single factor. For the Spangle you will have a chance of 50% spangles and 50% normals.
  12. Anything that has feathers...and then at the end of the month we will let our members vote

    they look great, so cute
  14. I agree with Kaz, he is a cutie
  15. cute babies, and throwback is right it is your males that are throwing the ino gene there
  16. Well in that case (Laughing out loud) Spangle is a dominant gene...but there is a single factor which means they carry 1 Spangle gene and that is when you will see the marking on the back then ther is the double factor Spangle which means the birds carries 2 spangle genes and the bird will be either completely yellow or white and it may have some suffision. Double Factor Spangles, have iris rings and blue cere, this is one way you can distinquish them from Dark Eyed Clears and Inos. The sex-linked genes all work the same so just know the basics don't worry about the x and y stuff - it makes it easier but if confuses you right now don't worry about it just know these facts. Females - when they carry a sex-linked gene it is visual it will never be masked and all the males in the nest will be split to the sex-linked gene (example opaline) but the gene will not be visual Males - when they carry a sex-linked gene 1 gene = it will not be visual & and they will pass the gene any female offspring (which will be visual) & males will not be split 2 same gene it will be visual on the cock bird and he will pass down to any female (they will be visual) & males will be split (non visual)
  17. and here we are cold on the opposite ends, I hope it cools off soon and you have been given good advice on suggestions.

  20. He is a nice looking boy, congrats
  21. I agree with Kaz looks very hennish, a male recessive pieds cere will stay very bright pink it doesn't have to go purplish, Pretty's was pink as you can see in my signature.
  22. excellent point Kaz
