hehe....I think I view a dog and my feet much stronger then a budgie (maybe because I don't have an aviary and the way Pretty suddenly died) but personally I do wear shoes you just never know when you are going to step in something nasty :(Laughing out loud): especially with 2 dogs .

Pygmy Bugie
with every breeding program there can come problems, I wonder what genetics issues, possible life expectency shorter or longer?, healthier or weaker budgies would come out of breeding them for a smaller size? Along with personality would they be more "hyper" or "calmer" like the show budgie?

Pleased To Introduce You To...
Welcome . First of all I have no doubt that his quirky behavior will resurface remember he was just taken away from his flock, now put in a completely different cage with toys that are unknown to him and he has you peering through the cage bars can you imagine what he is thinking (Laughing out loud) . I have a article that I wrote up about taming budgies in the FAQ I suggest you print it out and read it because I feel it has a lot of great ideas to get started with your newest friend . Patience is the key to budgie training and gaining trust is the key to your new friendship how long it takes to gain trust is going to depend on how you work with your budgies, how many times a day, etc...

Agressive Sherbet
yes that is good, if you have a treat she likes like millet I would hold that in your hand too she will start to get comfortable and hopefully will come and eat the millet. Once you can start to get them to eat from your hand without the cage bars that is a huge step.

Playing With Parsley
budgies have a poor sense of smell, I am going to say he probably like the way it feels when he preens it, they are big preeners and love to preen, I would suggest a preening toy for him to play with and preen .

Agressive Sherbet
when she is trying to bite when she comes to you is out of anger or just being a budgie honestly Merlin does the same thing to me and comes back so sometimes I think it is just them playing a game (just ignore it or walk away from the negative and come back for the positive).

Outdoor Play
I agree with NickNack on the grass thing I think about bugs, fleas, mites and whatever they may pick at so I personally wouldn't do it. You have the same exact cage as I do that is what I do to clean it I just wheel it outside on a nice day and hose it off good first. Outside always supervise and you may want to put a lock or a tie around the cage in case anyone opens the door on accidently or it isn't closed well enough. Anything can happen. Make sure you don't put them in direct sunlight just indirect.

Gotcha...I get lost in your posts Kaz sometimes my brain can't keep it all together- Nervous?
When all you have it curtain tops you are not going to create an enviroment of learning, remember wings always grow back and it doesn't hurt them in anyway. It only takes about 2 months for them to regain flight just enough time to start building a bond. Going after him and chasing him is going to continue to strain the bond you are working on. Other then that you must be in a small room with no curtain tops to do your training sessions and be very patient . As for the lights, computer screen etc...he will get over it as he gets more accustom to his surroundings.- Benny Or Bonney
and becareful you don't put too much on so they don't aspirate it through the nostrils...cute birds- Introducing The Gang
you are going to have to get a video of all your budgies talking you are one of a kind with the talking budgies most stop but Apple was such a good talker he taught everyone- Budgiebird Hilton .....daily Life In My Aviaries Part 3
so do you think that one is a feather duster Kaz? They pairs look great I can't wait to see the chicks they produce.- Another Boy Or Girl Question - Sorry !
not the best picture because the cere is dark, if you can do another one without flash that would be great, it looks boy as birdluv said but can't be sure.- Nervous?
5-6 weeks is not long in terms of of a budgie, yes when he flies away let him come to you, start off in a small room so he can't go on curtain tops but if you keep everything he wants by you he will be entinced to come to you including his cage and favorite food or just his seed bowl. By keeping those things by you then he will start to learn that if he wants is stuff he has to trust you. Also you may consider clipping for just a one time deal if you have issues about it. Everyone has different thoughts but I can tell you that clipping is a quick way to work on taming and when their wings grow back they will not go wild but it gives you the opportunity to not do the chase game (which frightens them). Food for thought, both my guys where clipped and Pretty's wings grew back and I never clipped him again he stayed completely tamed. I had Merlin 1 more time after Pretty died to work with him and he has been flighted since (just about a year) and he is as tame as ever.- George's Droppings Are Runny
Is this an avian vet? You may want to try someone different...I see that Chrysocome is responding so she will give you good advice I know.- Nervous?
I would give him an area of his own that he can always play at if that is your computer area that is fine. They are scared of everything at first but the plastic balls with the bells tend to be their favorite put a couple in his cage too to get used to them. I am not sure how long your time out is daily but it should be at least 1 hour I find the longer they are out at one time the more comfortable they are vs in and out in and out in 10-15 minutes intervals. When do you find him most scared? What actions are you doing or what is going on when he seems the most nervous? Also how long have you had him? I have to run but will be back later just leave your answers and I will recheck the post plus there are others too.- Nervous?
sounds like he may be curious, do you have a play station where he can perch and play with toys when he is outside of his cage? Along with some of his favorite treats? If you give them positive things outside of the cage to do along with playing with them you will find that they will start to relax. If you just take them in and out for interaction they tend to stay more nervous I experienced that with my own birds.- Merlin Says Good-bye :0(
that makes me feel more encouraged for sure...did they come back okay too like they were not wildly nuts?- This Week
Very cool....I think to work with cows and interns you would have to have a good sense of humor . - Budgiebird Hilton .....daily Life In My Aviaries Part 3
