  1. I agree with Kaz she is not a baby you can also tell by the bar lines they don't go straight down to here cere. Many pet stores will sell "adults" as babies and it is buyer beware. Either way she is a cutie and welcome to the forums.

I agree, I am not an expert but if they are going through a molt which is a very stressful time I would wait because I think it would be more stressful on the female then the male because she is the one laying the eggs.
  3. (Laughing out loud) I lost the battle even though it is not a dress. Merlin is settling nicely at my MIL, I visited him today. He ran up to me and flirted with my nose. I have learned that he likes FIL more now then MIL :hap: so all is well.

Patiencs is the key to TRUST, you can go into the FAQ section and there is a article about training your budgie and different techinques. I trust you will find it very useful many have used the ideas and their birds have been tamed down .
  5. 1. Whether this is true and if so how do we clean natural cuttlebones? **Rinse in boiling water with a little salt and then dry on the windowsill before returning clean and dry 2. Is cuttlebone hard back is not good for birds and if so how do we remove it? it is fine you can leave it on or you can scrap it off? 3. Also once in few days whether we need to clean the cuttlebones which are placed in the cages, some sort of recycling is needed? **no you can just leave it in there 4. I was under impression that full cuttlebone is better to birds compared to cuttlebone powder, since it will help to keep the beak in good shape and prevents overgrowth in addition to calcium supplement. So what is right way to feed birds - full or powedered or both. **You can make the powder from the cuttlebone you buy, by scraping it off with a spoon that is what I do and then I sprinkle it over Merlin's food since he doesn't use his cuttlebone much. I leave a cuttlebone perch, a regular cuttlebone on the side of the cage and when he needs it he will use it. Many times he uses his branches in his cage to keep his beak clean and conditioned.

Plus all new birds need to be quarantine from your existing flock for at least 30 days.
  10. I think sometimes the tremors excited nervous energy because they do it when they are nervous too (Merlin did it at my MIL the first couple hours and then he was fine). I am glad everything is coming along and he is improving it is amazing how fast we can heal from an injury. Good on you taking the time with him he will appreciate it 1000x over.I think sometimes the tremors excited nervous energy because they do it when they are nervous too (Merlin did it at my MIL the first couple hours and then he was fine). 11. excellent news
  12. I agree with Liv but when you ask them if they see birds do ask them on average how many they see in a month that is important because any vet can say yes we see birds (I had that happen with Pretty).
  13. I hate to say it but itsn't it amazing what a wing clip can do to the attitude it doesn't make them fearful it just makes them depend on you more and helps training go smoothly . Wonderful job.
  14. I read your other post and they are both different questions so having them separate is fine. If the seed is old, moldy or spoiled it can be making your budgie sick.
  15. How wonderful, they are beautiful budgies , as you look around on the forum you will find information in our FAQ section to assist you in training, feeding, health and more... Always feel free to ask question even when you feel they are simple we are always here to lend a helping hand and some words of advice (if you like
  16. Yes, please update us as Liv said, I do hope he is okay.
  17. Since it continues with this post it is okay, if you are starting a different topic about her yes you can find the correct forum. I tamed a cockatiel with unclipped wings so I remember what it was like, I didn't chose to have the boys clipped they were already clipped in the beginning so I saw the difference in training by this experience. The best thing is it grows back so quickly like it never happened and it doesn't hurt but like you said everyone choses a different route .
  18. hehe...yep there is a shortcut rule ...I don't think a min pin can be manly well not Cabela even though he had a SWEATSHIRT on :fear.
  19. I haven't seen the difference in coloring with settling. I have a white one and a green one (which is my big one) and Merlin has settled in both okay. I think it is preference visually for the human, the bird will get used to it no matter what.
  20. Thank you for the update...pellets are hard to get them to eat. You can smash them up sprinkle them on his veggies, over the seed different things. I know it was very hard to get Merlin to eat pellets in fact we are still working on it.
  21. Well I did a search and this is what I found take it for what it is I am not sure how accurate but it does make sense and I would take precautions for sure. Answers on Yahoo Good Article
  22. :fear: he is scanning for budgies on the net since he can't get yours great picture
  23. I would say male then if you have a picture of your bird's cere to show us we could confirm but if you don't see any signs of tanish, whitish pink then I would say at this point most likely male.
  24. After reading everything, I would suggest taking your bird to an Avian Vet (there is a finder in our FAQ's) we can go back and forth and think what she may have but none of us are registered avian vets or even vets and if we were still we could not diagnosis your bird properly as we don't have the tools to physical feel, weigh, take any poos slides, talk to you in personal etc... So time spent could be time wasted and your bird could be gone. I have experience a healthy bird in the morning and gone by evening with these types of symptoms. I wish you the best and keep us updatd....now I will stop lecturing .
  25. The best way to have less stress on your budgie is to teach it the step-up command, I have a training article in the FAQ that explains how do to it. You may want to consider a 1 x wing clip to for her saftey until she is completely tamed and learns this command. It is 100x easier to teach a budgie that is not flighted then is flighted, I know from experience. Pretty and Merlin were both clipped when I got them and then I let their flights grow out and that worked perfect. After Pretty died, I did get Merlin clipped again for his saftey and the advantage point that I could work with him again on my level. When they are on the curtain and you are chasing them you are a predator and trust me you don't get anywhere. So food for thought, not an advocate on wing clipping many don't personally like it but I look at it this way. 1. It doesn't hurt. 2. It doesn't mentally harm them it helps them gain trust with you 3. It grows back and in about a month or 2 even with all the feathers not grown back they already get lift and start flying.
