  1. Everything looks good, you might want to make up a play gym for her on top of her cage so when she is out she can play with different toys then what is in the cage , if you ever decide on a 2nd bird don't use the cage though do upgrade first, that is what I did when I got my 2nd budgie. If you go to the FAQs you will see different member's cage set-ups too for ideas for inside the cage and different types of cages. I understand the budgie budget , as long as she is getting out then it is perfectly fine that is what I did when Pretty was in the cage like you had.

    Very beautiful!
  4. Good advice GB. I did want to point out that birds don't get colds like us humans, when birds get sick they need immediate attention by being seperated from the flock and being examined by an avian vet along with being kept warm in a make shift hospital bed. Keeping your bird warm (above 75F) is one of the KEY factors of pulling your bird through being sick. Also to the Original Poster you said the other birds were not showing signs that doesn't mean much especially if she is not egg bound, I really suggest that you take her to an avian vet, get her checked out, poop sampled etc..even if she doesn't make it it could save all your other birds, according to your profile you have 49.
  5. I had this similar cage, it is a nice cage for 1 budgie, if you can though I would look on upgrading so your budgie can fly and stretch her wings on a regular basis. Personally I wouldn't add much more stuff it in or perches because it will be over crowded. If you want to use natural branches maple is a very safe wood but you should dry out your branches under supervision in the oven on low at 200F for 30 minutes to kill any bugs that lurk. There are other ways to treat branches, that is what I do because I read it on a site and I am sure you will get more options. To introduce yourself look for the Your Flock sub-forum in the beginning of the board.
  6. I agree with Kaz, female.
  7. I remember, Bea one of our members did this exact thing with Blinks she took him out of the nest around 3 wks for bonding purposes and then gave him back to his parents, he is very very tame.

    Very nice Dave!
  9. Hmm...not sure about the vets diagnosis was he an avian vet? A heart attack is a sudden thing your bird was sick for a couple days, the ending result was a heart attack but what caused it sounds more like an infection somewhere in the body. Anyways, please keep the new bird you purchased quarnatine from your existing bird for at least 30 days. Quarantine means separate cage, separate room completely this ensures that neither bird is sick.
  10. wow you have a lot of them, they are very cute

Read here on how to post pictures within guide regulation Photo Regulations/How to Post TIPS on taking good pictures that WIN Make sure you have good lighting, the best is in the daylight without a flash Try and take your budgie's picture without the bar cages, many camera's will let you zoom in and you can put the lense between the space If it is a close-up use your macro setting (symbolized on some camera's by a flower) and then press the shutter button 1/2 way and let it focus If the picture is blurry check your setting and try again Make sure you resize your pictures to message board size (640x480) too small of pictures are hard to see

  20. Elly replied to kemma's topic in New to BBC
    Welcome
  21. If you are asking will it happen again most likely, budgies go through cycles of molting, hormones, and wanting to mate. It can even happen between 2 male budgies but the good thing about them is that they can't lay eggs . I would keep them both covered for at least 12-14 hours for the next week for sleep time and make sure you don't have any running water by the birds cage like a fish tank etc.. Birds start the courting due to extended daylight hours, water running, abundance of food etc.... Keep us updated.
  22. Isn't that opalance from the Opaline gene too though not just the violet gene? Just wonderings.
  23. So cute reminds me of Pretty and Merlin
  24. Wow, yeah I agree with Kaz on how young. Make sure you quarantine and keep an eye on him. I would say he is a Dominant Pied Violet Cobalt, but it will be interesting to see him molt out and get his throat spots.
  25. I agree with Liv on the mutations as for the Sky Violet I am not as familar with them they personally look like cobalts to me, if you used a flash on the birds it will change the coloring of the blue, if you didn't use a flash they seems cobalt to me personally.
