Go for it Kaz... you and I must only get junk mail worth laughing at
  3. Neat are all these on the safe food list for budgies? I know raw potato is on the unsafe list but I think cooked is okay. Just making sure...very good information.
  4. This is a diffcult time for you and I am glad you are here posting. Now matter what you do I do know that you have my support. I have been there and it is a very difficult decision. I wish I could give you the answer but here is what I would do. If I felt that the tests are not giving me answers, the medicines are not working, and his quality of life is poor I would give my pet a huge kiss or hug (or all the love you can give to a budgie) and say it is okay to go (I have done it so many times now...I give them permission)...and I wait and keep them comfortable if you find he is not comfortable you may have to think about the alternative. There is endless hope but what if I did this but we have to look at the reality are all these tests, medicines going to fix it if the answer is no then you know your answer. ((HUGS)) I can feel your pain.
  5. That is very normal, Pretty used to do that all the time, it is like a yawn .
  6. The best thing you can do is if someone tell you a hen is of breeding age and you don't know is to take the date you get them and wait the full 1 year or if you can tell them are at least 6 months (a 2nd molt and the bar lines are gone from the cere to the middle part of the head) then wait 8 months that will give you a year.
  7. OFF TOPIC, from original post...but Dek molts can last a month or 3 months some are quick and some are slow each molt is different, some are heavy and some are very light .
  8. Excellent advice!!!!

  16. Here is the link to the Food and Nutrition Section of the FAQ's with a lot of different information http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...=show&cat=5 as for the rings I would try your local bird club that is usually where you can find them. Welcome to the forum.

  18. No the parents will not eat the budgies, have you read over our BUDGIE FAQ's on our website that would be the best place to start BEFORE you start breeding and of course ask questions.
  19. Elly replied to cynthz's topic in Breeders Discussion
the courting and excitment I think is getting you carried away, you have received excellent advice and though you may think it is a little hard advice it is the truth, please do take it, we can't make you but I do hope that you think about the best interest of the birds and not your feeling of excitment.
  20. You should be able to call your local authorities and they will be able to get you the number. Remember we are international so specific questions like this can't also be answered.
  21. I agree with everything said here, I am not a breeder so it doesn't make me an expert but when put in terms like MB did, it makes true sense, I do hope you agree and take the time to research breeding first until your birds of approriate age.
  22. The best way to get the hormones under control is to ensure they have 12-14 hours of covered cage time for at least a week that should settle him and then you always make sure 10-12 hours of cover time after that. That keeps Merlin very much in check and keeping it consistent. Also if you have running water such as a fish tank don't have it by your budgies because it mimics natures way of telling bird that things are florishing, spring is here. Also rearrange any toys or take them out that he has gotten attached too and reintroduce in a couple weeks. Let us know how it goes.

Maybe suggest if they tested for worms, as Neat said. Fecal testing is fairly cheap vs the bood work and x-rays. Hugs, your heart will tell you how far to go we can't answer that for you. Does your avian vet take a payment plan or possible discount available to you if you tell them your situation. Everyone's opinion is different when you talk about the extents you go on your pet. As a single bird pet owner, I would find myself very apt to do whatever I could as long as the pet was not in pain in suffering and I knew there would be a positive results especially when it is a younger pet.
  24. Hugs, I hope he can rebound and pull through.

I also find that birds that have clipped wings may tend to do it more for balance too, Pretty had a hinged tail like that too. Also they tend to do it more when they are in a fearful stage because they tend to tuck, I have experience that. The vet you went to was he an avian vet or a dog/cat bet a lot of them don't know what they are talking about when it comes to birds. (I have learned that one from experience)
