  1. Hows everything going? Have you been able to see an avian vet yet? I truly hope all is okay.. I know how devistated you must be feeling .. chin up Hugs
  2. {{HUGS}} Try not to stress yourself out too much, although i know its hard not to do.. I only mentioned PBFD as a just in case situation and really you wont know anything until its been looked at by a specialist.. Before all my deaths in the aviary to Coccidiosis one of my hens had a clutch of 6 babies, 3 died at very early stages and the other three hung on in there although not developing properly etc etc.. Once they started to feather up they were coming out all brittle and just awful looking.. the quills were almost shredded looking and really dry, the feathers were all dry and not your typical fluffy feather.. they would grow out only to snap off.. Sadly all three babies passed away and i sent one out to be examined and tests came back with PBFD .. Sadly at this stage Coccidiosis swept through the aviary as well and i lost the father to the little ones, the mother has a clean bill of health though (**TOUCH WOOD**).. I was told chances were high that it got into my aviary (both the coccidiosis and the PBFD) from the flock of cockatoos that come into my Mahogany trees every day, apparently cockatoos in the wild are MAJOR carriers.. I must admit id seen LOTS of dirty featherless birds about the place but just didn't put two and two together.. Shows though just how easy these nasty things are spread, and as someone pointed out, its passed on through feather dust also so obviously very hard to contain id imagine.. If its just the tips of your little ones feathers that are broken maybe it was from just a little too rough play or a slip of the beak when preening.. is there anything in the cage that he could be even catching his feathers on causing the damage? Seek advice from the Zoo specialists and try not to stress.. Good luck Cheers :beer: Una
  3. I use to go in there and answer questions, it gets lame though when you recieve 10 points or whatever each time you answer the TOP ANSWER Most of the questions are pathetic and the ... actually ill just keep my mouth shut before i put my foot in it HAHAAAAA
  4. Take your little one to the vets ASAP so they can rule out different things including PBFD.. Id be considering for the time being separating the affected one from the others JUST IN CASE..

    Thought id google budgies and pinecones and found this niffty little treat idea hahaa.. http://members.ozemail.com.au/~gupson/Recipies.html (although im not sure if too much peanut butter would be a good idea) and i also found this one.. CHRISTIE'S PINE CONE TREATS Ingredients: Several clean, dry, open pine cones 1 cup of your bird's favorite seed mixture Beaten egg white Method: Mix bird seed with enough beaten egg white to make a mixture that clumps together (neither runny nor crumbly) Stuff mixture into crevices of pine cones and either microwave or bake in oven on low heat until dry. Allow to cool and harden, then hang in your bird's cage for a treat that will keep them amused for ages. This seed/egg white mixture can also be used to make treat sticks or other moulded shapes. 6. I too have just been going through a similar situation.. you HAVE to get a bird to the avian vets to work out what is wrong and to get treatment, i found it interesting about the other birds being close but not getting sick. In my situation i had over 40 birds in the outside flock and am now only left with 10.. My Demon was and is Coccidiosis.. you NEED to work out what is going on ASAP.. What are the birds symptoms etc etc? Maybe you should take this as a learning lesson and re consider ever getting so many birds again if you cant afford proper treatments for them (just a thought).. I DO have the finances to look after my birds and get any treatment they may need but i don't think after what i've been through that i will be building the flock back up again.. its too heartbreaking and it honestly made me feel like whats the point.. GO TO AN AVIAN VET ASAP or you WILL loose all the birds.. GOOD LUCK
  7. Just sending some more hugs and well wishes, just popped into the forums to see how things were going.. Still thinking about you all and you are all still in my prayers.. {{HUGS}}
  8. :hap: Kaz i'm so sorry.. I've only just read this now and what a shock i must say.. Poor hubby must be feeling like a right (edited: DONKEY) .. I hope this doesn't come out sounding weird or anything and i hope you know what i mean but after reading your first post i was kinda a little relieved. Racing through my mind at first was that the branches were infact CONTAMINATED with something and not just toxic.. I was really worried that it was something that was contagious going through your aviary.. i'm going to go and google up some boxwood images because i wasn't aware of them before this.. Hugs to you Karen and :angel1: RIP all you special little ones that went to the rainbow bridge Una
  9. {{{HUGS}}} Shawna i'm so sad to read this post.. I just cant begin to imagine how you must be feeling right now, All of my problems seem so insignificant now.. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.. Love Una
  10. I have Harry the female tame tiel inside with the 4 budgies and they all get along great, preening each other etc etc .. Outside in the aviary i have a breeding pair of tiels (not tame at all) in with the budgies and they all get along great also .. I was worried id have birds with missing toes but they all get along great and don't mind sitting and feeding beside each other
  11. OH MY GOSH HOW CUTEEEEEEEEEE! I really do hope that all goes will with them Karen, they are both totally adorable.. Look forward to baby updates and lots of photos Cheers :beer: Una
  12. (Laughing out loud) do they actually ingest any of it I have some oats in the cupboard that the ringnecks like to munch on but i've never tried them with the budgies.. think ill go try them on some now
  13. ~~Looking at my clock thinking that you would be either still at the vets or not long ago finished.. I really do hope that all has gone well for you all {{HUGS}}
  14. I've been on this site for what feels like ages now and i STILL cant get around the whole genetics thing.. So i just go along with what i'm told and look very knowledgable when friends come over
  15. OH NO.. What was wrong that i think i've missed? ummm about Munchy being a Yellow face Blue type 2? (isn't that what he is?) Not sure on the mutation of yours KeetCrazy although id have guessed a recessive pied like my Mig is unless that changed also while i wasnt looking
  16. Very pretty budgies... Try not to stress yourself out TOOOO Much although i know its hard not too, and keep us updated on them and their vet visit.. Good Luck with them.. Cheers :beer: Una
  17. Yeah Karen its all clear (for now).. been a week or so now since the last illness so i'm feeling confidant but still keeping an extra close eye on them all.. I lost close to 20 birds which is really sad, but its just one of those things that i have learnt a lot from and know more about for next time.. I will feel more at ease when i move the aviaries and do the flooring but for now i'm feeling fairly good about the whole situation Cheers :beer: Una
  18. Okay so after my HUGE outbreak of Coccidiosis i'm planning on an aviary revamp and also its being relocated (once the garden extensions have been completed).. I was really hoping to be cementing the ENTIRE floor as well as enclosing all of the exposed mesh areas on the roof.. Only i hadn't realized the huge tree roots on the site that i want to relocate the aviarys too.. Seems i will be able to cement the main shed feeding areas but the flight section will be to hard to do.. I was thinking of using something like Ironstone chips in a bed of about 8 inches inside the areas that i cant cement, thinking that it would stop the birds from direct contact to the soil, they also have good drainage.. but i'm still not sure.. Sand would attract to much moisture i'm sure although it is really easy to sweep clean.. I would really love some input into this as i'm at a bit of a loss on which way to go.. Cheers :beer: Una
  19. OMGOSH hahaaaa THATS TO DARN CUTEEEEEEEEEE Oh what a little gem, very very sweet indeed..
  20. :ausb: Where is a good place in Aus to buy them also? I have googled myself STUPID trying to look for a supplier, maybe i need google lessons
  21. OH WOW What a BEAUTIFUL photo, if this was mine id have it enlarged and framed Looking heaps forward to seeing some more
  22. Gotta love baby photos.. makes me all clucky
  23. teehee.. These photos made me giggle, thank you for posting them..
  24. 3 of my inside birds like to mate with weird objects... Munchy has a foot, hand and any human skin he can get to fetish, hes even been known to go for it of an unsuspecting forehead or two .. He taught Mig the art of getting jiggy with anything human he can grip onto while Mig taught Munchy that the Rainbow Lorikeets cuddly toy (of a Rainbow lorikeet) was a great source of "entertainment".. Then there is Apple who LOVES the tail of a cat toy, its a little mouse in like a wire ball with the tail sticking out.. He grabs onto the tail and wiggles his butt from side to side while whispering "hey cutie.. i love you.. talk to me.. Watcha dewin?" at it :(Laughing out loud): Cheers :beer: Una
  25. Elly {{HUGS}} I did read about darling little Pretty, such a shock.. I really hope you and Merlin are doing okay, all my best wishes have been sent to you both.. Out in the Aviary this morning, EVERYONE seems to be flying about all happy although there are two scruffy ones that i will be keeping a closer eye on although they have been scruffy forever.. I have started them on there Medication while i wait for the other stuff to arrive.. I'm absolutely in a panic about the inside birds getting sick so I'm making them chug down lots of Aloe Juice to hopefully help pep them up a little bit.. Havent yet heard back from Vetafarm about the medications and i cant get them on the phone, im assuming it because of the weekend and hopefully ill have better luck on Monday (fingers crossed) Cheers :beer: Una Karen I just opened up my emails, thank you so much for that link... He has stated "The birds would huddle up in the corner and have there vents and tails up as if they had a huge stomache ache." thats EXACTLY what my birds were doing Poor little darlings "I was giving a Sulphur drug to the sick birds to help stop the E. coli and other micro - bacteria from multiplying." Oh Phewww as thats all ive got to use at the moment, I feel a LITTLE more at ease that i might be doing atleast something right now :fear although reading on makes it seem pretty grim..
