  2. Im sure some homeless possums will love you for it Daz..
  3. Cant wait to see picture of this box.. sounds like a LARGE parrots nesting box.. Some people do like to use larger boxes (maybe not that large) as it stops the babies from fledging too early.. If the hen is going into the box, shifting the shavings about or even chewing on the box.. they are all normal behaviours and i suspect you will see some eggs within the next week or two .. If you are happy with them being in the box as it doesn't seem to bother them, id say leave it in there with them and see how it goes for a while.. Actually while i'm thinking about it, they do have room enough to fly about in the aviary still don't they? Cheers  Una

I not long ago posted it in another topic but ill post it again.. http://www.javafinch.co.uk/egg/eggndx.html Its a recipe for an egg mix that my bird LOVE.. Its good to give to them to improve there condition, when they are moulting and when they are breeding.. Mine get it a couple of times a week but the ones out in the aviary get it daily when they are breeding.. They go APE over it
  6. Its Wonderful news that you were able to find them a loving home to go to already, it takes a special person to take on the responsibility to care for something/someone with special needs It must be sad for you that this happened and i'm sure we have ALL learnt something from this.. thank you for sharing

im not sure about duck eggs as the fat content is higher but with the chicken eggs you can feed them the whole egg, shell and all.. just mash it all together, the shell is a great source of calcium for them and they seem to mostly love it (all cooked though )

  12. What Cuteness
  13. Sorry to hear about your little ones and thank you for posting the information regarding the undershot beaks.. Its something that i don't think i've even thought about before (looking INSIDE the beaks) but its something i most certainly adopt into my normal chick check procedures.. The remedy although they say its not cruel... seems soooo horrible, I think its just because all of our birds are spoilt and we would never even consider leaving them in an all wire cage That must be the toughest treatment to carry out EVER Good luck with then Karen and keep us updated Cheers  Una
  14. I have a hen like this and i cant seem to stop her.. removing the eggs doesn't help as they will just lay more so what i've done at the moment is actually boil her eggs.. Its stopping her from laying more if i was to remove them and she is quite happy to sit on them for now although i'm not sure what will happen when she realizes that they are infertile.. You could also remove her from the other birds for a while and see if that stops her. Hopefully someone else will have some good ideas to share
  15. I don't have easy acess to wood shavings so i use shredded bits of paper towel, making sure though that its not in long enough lengths to get caught about the little ones or the parents feet.. It soaks up everything but has a tendency to stay damp so its changed out every day and sometimes twice a day (if not more ) I just keep an eye on it and change when required Cheers  Una
  16. When i started the veggie thing with Apple he was freaked out by the whole thing.. so i actually diced up his veggies into seed sized chunks and mixed it in with his bird seed as he go use to it the sizes of the chunks increased.. Now he loves his veggies although the purple cauliflour freaked him out a lil and i guess him eating them has taught the other two inside to like them also It might take a while to get your one use to them but the key is to never give up and offer them to him every day even if he doesn't touch them... One day he will surprise you and he will be a happy bird when he works it all out Cheers  Una
