How Do You Get These Beautifull Budgies?
Half siders are what is called tetragametic chimerism, where one twin is reabsorbed into the other, when they are in the egg, just a little while after fertilisation. The patches of green and blue have different DNA from each other. The chances of getting a half sider is rare. Think of how rare it is to get twins and then twins that have fused together... very rare. It happens in humans too by the way, any way here is a site on it: http://www.geocities.com/budgie-place/p_co....html#halfsider. That first pick is wrong that isn't a YF type 1 it is a type 2. Silly book.

What Would We Create?
First of all Chico isn't opaline You will get 50% yellowface 2 and 50% normal (if Arial is a double factor yellowface you would get the same ratio) All your babies will be recessive pied - 100% No greens Chico looks like a cobalt and I am guessing that Ariel is a cobalt violet. In that case you will get 25% mauve - 50% cobalt and 25% sky blue (If Chico is a sky blue you will get 50% cobalt and 50% sky blue.) No opalines, unless Chico is split in that case yo will get half of your baby girls opaline and all the rest normal (half of the boys will be split). If Ariel is a single factor violet cobalt then doing a dihybrid cross of violet with dark factors you will get: 12.5% mauve 12.5% mauve single factor violet=> violet 25% violets (cobalt single factor violet) Adding up the two violet => 37.5% violets 25% sky blues ( half of those with a single violet factor) 25% cobalts You will get no cinamons, but your males will be split for it. ( unles Chioco is split for it and in that case you will get 50% cinammon (2% girls 25% boys). There, hope that helps

**newest*** Photos Spangle Babies***updated
Yep we are almost exactly 12 hours ahead of you Nathan. I don't normally go to bed before midnight, but I have had a big day working on some leadlights and more planned for tomorrow. I am happy about the yellow baby DFS and also the other spangles. Since the normals will be split for spangle too, there's no excuse not to keep the lot but we will see. -quote budgiebird Spangle is dominant. You will not get any normals split for spangle. Because if they are split for spangle, they are spangle. Split means they are heterozygous or single factor. And as you know SF spangle is a spangle. If the spangle allele is present, it will show. Normals are recessive i.e. they do not carry the spangle gene. Genetics is part of the vet paper

New Bubs
Beautiful little babies, I want them all!!!!!

Possiable Scaley Face? Or Something Else
I think you should go for the drop treatment. Because birds have thin skin, whihc can tear easily, and if your bird is a struggler it will probably be quite hard to do an injection. When I got my treatment, the vet gave me ear mite medicine, which cleared up perfectly in 1 month. And I had to do it on a really untame bird (I had just brought her home 2 weeks beforehand). When you apply the ointment, drop or what ever, you can restrain your budgie by swaddling it in a towel or blanket.

Swift And Rockets Brood Of Five
cool, sounds like you have a pretty brood there.

I Think My Chicks Have French Moult
First: I replied to your other post on the subject. Secondly: They could be dehydrated, which is why they are thin, this also causes them to lose their feathers, similar to french moult. Thirdly: If you want the best opinion... go to your vet Good luck, I hope all goes well and remember don't give up. Oh yeah and don't listen to that book, if they do have french moult, just keep them seperated from the other birds and wash your hands in between. And take them to the vet.

I Think My Chick Has French Moult
Here is a quote taken from: http://www.budgerigars.co.uk/breeding/index.html So what feathers have they dropped?

Confused Birds
Yeah, I would say that she is a girl. Her cere is too white to be a boy (sometime girls have a blue tinge to their cere)

I Need Help Please
How old are your budgies?

Mad Budgie
Yes I said that. I said put the female in the male's cage first and then when that is right, put the male in the female's cage. You should do this to find out whether she is territorial, because, even when she is put into the male's cage she will eventually establish that as her territory anyway. So you sort of need to establish whether or not she will be territorial anyway.

Possiable Scaley Face? Or Something Else
I think you should go to the vet, you don't know what sort of stuff is in that baby lotion/oil
-
Swift And Rockets Brood Of Five
Yeah they would be white, because they have a blue father and perhaps a heterozygous mother

Pied Question
No he is not a pied. I have a yellowface type 2 just like him, his blue even runs into the wing and back feathers like that too. The green spots are just areas, where the yellow is intensified, all YellowfaceII are like this. You can not get a pied budgie that has both blue and green spots. You can, but it is very rare. It is a congenital thing and is when an egg originally contained twins, one blue and one green, but one twin reabsorbed another when they were just a ball of cells, so the green patches on the budgie will have different DNA to the blue patches. The green and blue are very bright and there is a definate line between them. It is called tetragametic chimerism. Here is a site with picture http://www.geocities.com/budgie-place/p_co....html#halfsider Your budge is not this, Your budgie is a yellowface type 2.

Mad Budgie
Try house her in a cage next to a male and see how she reacts And then you can go from there, increase the amount of time she see him each day. When she ahs eventualy calmed down, you can let her and the male out together (supervised) for a short period of time. Increase this time slightly every day. Then we she is fine with that put her in his cage for a little while (supervised) and then take her out. Again, increase the amount of time each day. When she is fine with this, put the male in her cage and repeat the last step (supervised). Try this But always supervise, while she is around the male. Then perhaps you could put the males cage next to her's over night. Then you could attempt to house her with males only when you are fully confident. You will have to introduce her to each male (infact all of your budgies) this way. Hopefully it will work. Make sure when they are in the same cage that there is a seed dish for each budgie, so no fighting happens.

Possiable Scaley Face? Or Something Else
I took two of my budgies to the vet at the same time, one had scaley face, so I got the medicine. It cost only $20 , for the whole appointment, medicine included. I was told to apply it to the affected areas for 3 days in a row, wait for a week an then repeat again. I did this over the course of a month and it cleared up.
-
How Is It Going
You should put shavings in the nest box and that way the hen can choose whether she wants them or not
-
 Another New Baby :)
Looks like she has scaley face, you should get her checked over by the vet.

Swift And Rockets Brood Of Five
Double factor spangle is not a dark eyed clear. There is a marked difference between the two. Dark eyed clears have no iris rings, whereas DF spangles have iris rings. If you breed a blue to a green you can get blues. Yo will either get half blue and half green (if your green parent is heterozygous) or all greens (if your green parent is homozygous dominant). You should get all cobalts (for blue babies) and all dark greens (for green babies. If either of your parents are carrying violet factor you will get at least half or all of the blue babies violet (because they will all be cobalt). You will get heterozygous opaline males (they won't appear opaline) unless your male is carrying and opaline allele and in that case 50 % of you babies will be opaline (25% girls and 25% boys). That combo is likely as most males these days are split for opaline. Depending on the hidden alleles, you could get any thing else. Happy budgying Oooh yes. Do you know what Swift and Rocket's parents are. That should halp tell you what recessives they may be carrying.

Egg Question.....
The eggs would be due to hatch 18-21 days after she starts incubating. As to the changing colour? I'm stumped.

A Bleminsh
My budgies have that two. It doesn't mean anything. I think the dry skin is because, they are peeling. Like humans do, birds have to peel to get rid of their old skin. Especially seeing as it was right after a moult, it is most likely this. You will find their beaks go like this too and it is just a new layer of keratin growing underneath the old layer, and they are shedding the old.
-
How Can I
Feed them with millet in you hand first, while they are on the perch, so they get used to that. Then slowly increase the distance of your hand from the perch, so that if they want millet they will have to jump. Then each day increase that distance a little more. Call out their name and say "up" each time you want them to come too. Then when they come to your hand. Put the millet on your shoulder and say a different command such as "shoulder". They will fly to your hand a first, but they will get the hang of it. This is what I do with my budgie, he hasn't quite got the hang of the shoulder one yet though.

What Do You Do When There Is A Power Cut
How old are the babies beore they are able to main tain their own body heat? How long do you need to keep them in an incubator?
-
How Is It Going
Yeah, i haven't really found a book on budgies that tells you whether the female is "pregnant" or to put shavings in the box. Asking people is the best way, because you can get personalised answers

I Got A Couple Of Questions?
