I don't know of any UK company's which offer pet insurance for budgies or even any type of bird, so if anyone knows of any then please post here.

Is it a natural way of them getting pro-biotics?
  3. Featheredpets replied to lisa's topic in Budgie News/Facts
Yes I'm sure it's popped up before and I do believe it's been recorded as around 26 years. The average is anything between 5 to 10 years depending on the birds activity and health etc.
  4. Interesting idea.
  5. But how an earth do you weigh a budgie, that won't stay still?
  6. Could he actually be a female seeing as he's so young?
  7. Me neither, but you get pink Bourkes, and Julie you appear to have a pink budgie now.
  8. A ban on wild bird imports, it appears only temporary but at least it's a start. The UK government needs to be removed as they objected to this ban last March, if you are in the UK and can vote and want an end to this trade then vote for a party that will stop this trade. I'm disgusted at our government. http://www.guardian.co.uk/birdflu/story/0,...1600296,00.html
  9. Fantastic home you have for them.

Yes they do indeed, more of a treat than anything else, our Star just destroys them, prefers his lettuce and what's on our plate instead.
  11. We should know within the next few days. Todays story http://www.guardian.co.uk/birdflu/story/0,...1599635,00.html

Great news Pixie, looking forward to the pictures.
  13. Hi lovey welcome to the forum, great pictures, I'd say boy, but that may change, so I'd select a unisex name just in case.

I think he'll be okay. I've had a quick look at the info on the disease http://www.budgerigars.co.uk/diseases/megabacteria.html and I think an avian vets advice will put your mind at rest. Was looking for Megabac-S as Karen mentioned that that product is a good cure for the disease, if in the unlikely event it is that.

    Aren't budgies Herbivores

Trill, Vitakraft, Johnson's Honey rings & bars etc?
  19. I think the government are trying to ban the import of wild birds only at the moment across the whole of the EU, that's what it said on the TV last night, a few of the web news sites say differently though. Providing responsible people import captive bred birds correctly then this should be okay but only if the welfare of the birds is put above all else. There are a lot of cowboys out there that should be stopped/closed down and hopefully a ban on the wild birds will help end this horrible trade (wild birds etc).

Have you tried pro-biotics? Worm wise I doubt Casper would have them as he's been inside, although check with your vet.

How about worms, have you ever wormed him, I doubt it would be megabacteria, but that will always be in the back of your mind. I know of an avian vet in Winchester, Peter Scott and also one near Andover called Mr Chitty who are very knowledgeable and good. They will be in the links which eterri is putting together, the post is a few days old.

How old is Casper, any idea what might be causing stress, if it is stress. You probably don't have anything to worry about, Star loses a bit of weight at every moult, I end up feeding by hand (by holding the pot up) to ensure he keeps his weight up.

Off course how did I forget that, Star gets his daily dose of the stuff.

I don't know, but I would imagine it should be an okay food, etteri may be able to provide a bit more of an insight.
