How often does this happen. If it's very in-frequent then the risks of a blood test probably out weigh the benefit seeing as he's a mature age of 7.

Nice cage, tall but okay. Natural perches you can also bake them in the oven to make them safe I'm sure a few people on here have done this.

Another good set-up Lin. Perhaps you could put bars/wires on each of your windows and doors and just turn the house into a massive aviary.
