Hi tiki Welcome to the forum. It could be that he's just going through a moult (possibly his 1st) and if you've never seen it before it can be alarming if lots of feathers are falling out. If you're able to post pictures then that would help to determine if anything unusual is going on.

Time and patience pays dividends. I once had a little budgie who didn't want to know me for ages. It took about a year before he came round and then all of a sudden we became friends.

Last picture is so sweet

Cheeky should be okay. Our Star is almost 7 and sometimes heshe has running droppings if eating veg/fruit or taking baths. Just monitor it and if it continues for several days then check with an Avian vet.
