Anyone Had A Ceasarian?

I am going to see my best friend tomorrow in hospital, I just found out she had an emergency ceasarian today. Thankfully she is doing well and has had a healthy baby boy, not yet named. I think it is all feeling very surreal for her at the moment as she hasn't even seen the little guy yet. She called me ten minutes ago and she was still slurring her words, she had just got out of theatre and the first person she called was me

 

I'm going to see her tomorrow and I want to take her something to help her feel better, any suggestions? She already has heaps of baby stuff so I want to get something for her

I had a C-section, and I think the best thing you can do for a mom is not when she is in the hospital but about 3-4 days later, bring over dinner (bought or made), ask if she needs any laundry done or light cleaning, gifts don't always come in clothes and toys but the things that you can do to make it easier. The first week is the toughest because that is when you hurt the most after that it gets better.

Yeah I figured that, thankfully her other half has organised time off work to help her as well and her mum has come up from the country so at this stage it might be too many people if I hang around and help I think (especially as her mum is rather overbearing). Plus I have my own kids to deal with and the last thing she needs is them carrying on in her house

 

Mainly I was tring to think of some things to put in a little hamper for her. So far I've put in a few of her favorite lollies (for energy ) but I was thinking along the lines of lotions and potions, I assume she probably can't have a proper relaxing bath for a little while. As someone that can't deal with anything with fragrance I don't even look in that part of the pharmacy so I've got no idea

Well dropping off dinner is easy I think therefore everyone can get fed and you don't have to stay at the home or anything . That is me though and I would have LOVED that.

 

I don't know the personality of this person so saying what to get her is hard lol...for me I am not into lotions and fragrances and didn't have time to take a long shower or bath .

 

A gift certifcate of some sort?

You could makle a little voucher booklet for all those things Elly suggested. Another gift thats always been a hit when i gave to people in hospital NO MATTER WHAT AGE GROUP is to give a colouring in book and a box of pencils. Everyone likes to colour in even the 80 yr olds

She's tough like that, she's not very 'girly' either. I wasn't so much thinking along the lines of something girly but more something soothing to help make her more comfortable, having not ever been through a ceasar I really don't know what she's in for in the next few weeks with her scar though. She lives quite a long way from me so a trip to just drop off dinner isn't really an option unfortunately

 

I like the colouring book Kaz, she has a childish streak that would LOVE that

 

Hey Elly, can you tell me if you used a 'ring sling' with your post ceasar baby and whether it worked for you? I just remembered I got her one but I don't know how she'll go with it.

 

So the hamper now has:

 

A sling carrier for once she is up to carting him around a bit

A pair of baby socks with little rattly crocodiles on them

A little wooden plane and car

A pack of lolly bananas

A block of white choccy

Some pink lady choc frogs

 

I wan't to add in a bottle of something for her lotion wise but I might chat to the pharmacist and see if they can suggest something

how about a pair of slippers , I didn't use the sling but what helped was a boppie pillow for feedings.

She told me she wanted a sling, but I just wasn't sure whether the ceasar would change that. I have one of those feeding pillows that I used so I might take it along incase it is of use and if she likes it I'll get her a nice new one

Just a nice body moisturiser- doesnt have to be expensive but its nice to have to put on after a shower when you get home. A book? as she'll be spending a bit of time resting for the first few weeks. Think you need to add some more lollies haha I'm a sweet tooth!! Does she print her own photos? Maybe a pack of photo paper for the new arrival- I use 'canon photo paper plus glossy' if its any help- the colours come out better on that one, and an album?

mmm thats it for now- its amazing how much baby stuff you get that never gets used.

My sister had a ceaser..

 

I hired a house cleaner the 2 weeks for her ( she came every 2nd day to help around the house)

I cooked dinners for her and prep lunches

 

Just small stuff to help her out as she couldn't move alot

I agree Neat, I've had two c.sections and the best present I could have had would have been someone to cook,clean, hang laundry out (which they tell you not to do for 6 weeks ?? (as if). Things like that because you cant even stand up straight for a few weeks let alone do all the usual household jobs!!

I'm going to have a chat to her today and see what I can do for her. I'm not much help with the hanging around and cleaning stuff because my kids would have to come and they'd cause more hassles than anything else. I'll see if she would like a bunch of meals dropped off

I'd feel a bit weird about watching someone clean my house - especially a friend

Cooking meals sounds like a BRILLIANT choice to me and what I would choose for your friend

Coco Butter, you can get it from the body shop it comes in sticks and smells like Choccies! Great for skin streching back into shape.

 

Also you can get the stuff that you spray in your hair and comb out so if she can't have a shower for a while it sort of is like washing your hair without having a shower (that is what I did after my surgery and you feel like **** but at least you hair looks semmi normal)

She'll be in the hospital for atleast another four days so I'm going to take some of the (nice) off the shelf ready meals for her that she can just stick in the microwave at the hospital if she gets sick of hospital food

 

Going to go and get a heap of containers tomorrow and fill their freezer for them

 

 

 

Wow AV, have we got some sort of psychic link going on? I had literally just decided to get her cocoa butter and leave in hair conditioner

Try Bio Oil, It is suppose to be very good as well just not as nice smelling. Works great on surgery scars

OMG, that is the cutest baby ever! I promise after dinner I'll post a photo. He was a tiny 5 lbs 6 ounces and he's in the special care nursery getting a 'boost' but he'll be fine after some TLC
