I have just taken one of my hens away from her babies, she has plucked the down off her 3 eldest chicks. I have food to hand rear them if I have too but was hoping that Dad would be okay..What do you think? and has anyone had a dad bring up 4 babies by himself? I have given the youngest to Princess because she has taken babies before and it is fine... I am just worried about the others...I have never left babies with dad before! thanks

My guess is she will have 6 or maybe 7 eggs!!

I agree with hath, I've taken the eggs away before, you can also shake the eggs and put them back then they want hatch.. Hath I have a question, have you had males that wont feed their young when the female is removed??

Hi nerwen, here is a picture of Fred with princess, sorry it is not a good one.. And here are some more for everyone.... Pascal and Light have 5 babies.... Thunder and Sky have 4 babies.. Hope you like them ...

If she starts to fight with the other hens when they chooes a nest box I would still take her out.. Make sure she has settled and is not going to attack the other hens! Good luck and keep us posted.

Remove her if she is bossey so your others can breed. Take her mate too, if your not going to get a new hen for him. Hows it all going? Keep us posted.

Are they happy to have their nest box back?? There are alot of babies hatching at the moment around this forum!! Good luck on the eggs, and how did the babies settle in to there new homes?? Are they inside pets or did some go to an aviary??

The colours look recessive.. Oh daz you have made me (Laughing out loud)... The picture are of 2 birds not 6 at least you got the same sex for the 2nd one ...

Bea it is noisey, when I went into the shed this morning and this afternoon OMG :(Laughing out loud): I had a look and mums were feeding and babies were noisey.. but very cute ... And daz I'll up date after I have sold... Just a picture of Princess and bubs:: Will have more pics soon...

Bea, That is so sad, Sometimes you can put to perches in about a centermetre a part and they can balance.. Daz well done on the eggs and good luck..

Just an update for you all. Princess and Fred have got 3 babies with 3 eggs to go. The 1 egg that had a crackin it the baby had died. Pascal and Light have 4 babies with 2 eggs to go.. Doing extrmely well for first time parents, I'm very proud of them. Thunder and sky have just hatched their 3rd baby with 3 eggs to go.. All doing well.... Violet and Pepper have 7 eggs and should have a baby tomorrow or the next .. finger crossed.. She is a first time Mum and has not been as settled as the rest.. More pics soon I have taken some just need to put them on photobucket..

No NO No NO..Blue ceres are boys and brown ceres are girls.... Pink ceres are boys also.. The pink cere can be Recessives or dominant pieds. Recessive boys have Pink ceres, well havn't heard of any blue cered recessives. Dominant pieds can have either, pink or blue... Can you post a picture of the boy again a whole one this time please..
